Buffy the Vampire Slayer - 6x14 “Older and Far Away” FULL REACTION

Where's Hallie when you needed her right now... especially in American with all these stupid protestors. LMAO

Anya in rage mode on that demon is hilarious. When I are-watch this episode I don't eve focus on Buffy fighting the demon anymore but on Anya LOL

I do feel for Dawn, she has a super-hero sister, always in the shadow, and her sister treats her like she always has to be protected and honestly over-protects her and babies her a bit. She needs more responsibility, and to be treated better and realize that she needs friends too. As someone above said, she probably has to lie to her friends about her home situation, and so truly doesn't have anyone her age to confide in like Buffy did. That's hard for someone her age to deal with. Plus the hormones of being a teenager. So I get her completely. She is crying out in pain, and no one was listening.

Tara's “Release” spell didn't go wrong, it just wasn't strong enough to counter-act the Wish. I think Dawn has some friends but she probably has to lie about her home life a lot which probably compounds the issue at the heart of this episode: people keep leaving. Hank, Joyce, Giles, Buffy, Tara, and those who are left don't really seem to care about her. Buffy's back, but in “Gone”, I think the thing that made Dawn most angry was when big sister caught her sneaking in late and Buffy just didn't care. Last episode built on that – at least from Dawn's POV: “You're never here. You can't even stand to be around me.” It rang true when the “guidance counselor” said that looking after Dawn was the most important part of her *job* but I think that Buffy using the same phrase is very revealing.

The quarantine episode...

I've always found the idea that she's *actually* Cecily a little intrusive and annoying. I'm 100% sure the dialogue was just a 4th wall lean on the casting when they wrote and shot it, and since then has become a sort of Ascended Fanon.

I really like this episode. I mean, it won't make my top 20 list or anything, but I think it's a really good, fun episode with a lot of great character stuff. Especially Tara, she was fantastic in this episode. Also... is it just me, or does anyone else find it really amusing that Richard, the one-off character who got stabbed, was wearing a red shirt? LOL

If Dawn doesn't have any friends then what happened to Janice? Didn't Dawn leave Buffy to go hang out with Janice in the last episode?

This episode... is one of my least favorites, ..it’s a bit one note.. but god, Tara is fantastic! I cherish the Buffy-Tara relationship!! 🥰

When I saw that detail in the episode, I flashed back to when my father quit cigarettes (back in the 1960s, when I was still a young boy). He kept an unopened pack of cigarettes in his shirt pocket for the first three months when he was quitting. Just having it there, and having that familiar weight in his shirt pocket, quieted that part of his brain down enough that he was able to focus on his job and focus on his resolve to quit, making it a positive choice moment to moment: It wasn't because someone was forcing him to quit or he'd made cigarettes unavailable to himself--they were right there in his pocket if he couldn't hack it--he was making a positive choice for himself, even while they were there and at the ready. After three months, he threw the still-unopened pack away, and that was another kind of release. I've been lucky never to have to go through recovery myself, but I have nothing but admiration for people who do, and who keep making that positive choice for themselves, whatever approach they take to it.

I've always been a bigger fan of this episode than the average person I think. All the relationship dynamics at work are excellent, and getting long scenes of scoobies having fun is nice, and pretty rare lately. Half of me likes that they made some of Dawn's reactions pretty bratty, the other half wishes that instead of having her straight up say "of course you all wanna leave, because being stuck in here with me, that would really suck" if she could have just scoffed and rolled her eyes, which someone would ask her about. Her putting her own needs over the obvious severity of the situation was a teensy bit much, but like you said, stuff builds up. And god am I just so in love with Tara, not just her amazing support but she looked so beautiful in this episode too.

KT

I adore the way she defended them too. She's only being snarky to Spike because she knows he's making Buffy uncomfortable, and she only starts standing up for Willow after Willow vocalized the decision to not use magic. It's a very wholesome and not overbearing kind of supportiveness that Giles frequently employs as well.

KT

Snarky Tara is the best! SO awesome seeing her tease Spike and standing up to Anya defending Willow. I'll say it again, she has really come a long way since S4 and even S5.

Val

Willow keeping a few items so she didn't have to think about stuff and could concentrate on recovery is so relatable it actually makes me wonder if anyone on staff at the time had been through addiction in real life. The first few months of my own recovery I still hung onto my injecting kit, not because I was planning to use it, but because just having it there quietened down the psychological cravings somewhat to the point where I could concentrate more on therapy & learning how to stay clean. First time I saw this episode I was kind of blown away that they had Willow doing something similar.

Claire Eyles

We actually do know that. There's a reason we know, but it's a spoiler because it hasn't been said. Even though saying it won't really reveal anything too important, It's still technically a spoiler.

Prue

Yes Halfrek is Cecily, Joss Whedon confirmed that a while back. The only thing that isn't confirmed, as far as I'm aware, is whether or not Cecily was a demon at the time she first met Spike.

Claire Eyles

Oh my gosh! Haha in trying to keep up with all the reactions! 🥰
