Buffy the Vampire Slayer - 6x05 “Life Serial” FULL REACTION

The Magic box mummy hand part is one of my favorite scenes in either show.

If I already pointed this out, or if someone else did, my apologies. You asked where The Trio got the money to pull this stuff off. In the episode with Shark Boy, they robbed a bank. Remember when she applied for the loan? About Buffy being too good at the construction job. LOL I knew a guy like that. Mechanic. He was faster than usual, and just sort of a brain when it came to figuring out problems. He got jobs done twice as fast as everyone else, to the point where he had to work slower on purpose, because they couldn't pay him enough to keep up with his pace. He eventually had to move onto something else that allowed him to realize his potential. He eventually got his own shop. Too bad Buffy can't find an avenue that works for her as easily as he did. So sad that the Mummy Hand Lady didn't her joke. So sad for her. LOL

Raven Dark

Warren learned from Jonathan that Buffy was the Slayer?—not way earlier from all the specs Spike gave him to build the Buffybot?

Steve Maxey

Like most of Buffy characters, the trios real motivations for taking over Sunnydale is character driven. While we don't know a lot about Andrew at this time, I have always used what I know about Warren and Jonathan and how they approached previous decisions in their lives to understand their future actions.

You have mixed feelings about the Nerd Trio. I would not trust anyone who DIDN'T have mixed feelings about the Nerd Trio. You should. I wouldn't trust anyone who hated them 100%. Loving them without reservation, however, would, IMO, be even worse. Liam, here's my advice about the Nerd Trio. Just assume that they are going to be exactly the same throughout the rest of the season... and then you might be pleasantly surprised. Lowering your expectations is beneficial no matter how good or bad things get. Right? :P

UTU49

I’m a huge trio fan!

Richard Lucas

This, right here, is why I always stand up for the Trio as adversaries - life and humans can kick your ASS, sometimes in ways more difficult to conquer than demons. This is why I love S6.

Renee Pope-Munro

The nerd jokes are pretty tiresome but like also I got all of them so I have mixed feelings. It's at least better than the big bang theory, that makes nerd jokes that the show itself doesn't seem to understand and the ENTIRE joke is "haha nerd stuff is dumb." The Trio's arguments about James Bond and Star Wars are actually real arguments real people get in. The show just needs to drop the "this is funny because nerd shit is lame" attitude and it'll all be fine. And, of course, more character development.

KT

This is what makes this season great! The villains are so simple. Hehe

Stephen Mintac

Are the "f***ing nerds" the new "f***ing Ronald"? Seriously, I think this was an interesting choice. Buffy just defeated a god in her own realm, but three humans are outside her power to deal with--she can't just slay them, and, even if she catches them, there's not much the police could charge them with. Possession of a magic bone? Probably not going to fly. So they could conceivably give her real trouble. It's a tough question, kind of like what to do with Faith if they caught her before she was ready to turn herself in. They're caught up in the idea of being comic book supervillains, so they want to set themselves against the comic book her, or at least I'm pretty sure that's the only reason they're going after Buffy. It's like in "Superstar"--if you're going to be the Big Guy, you've got to prove you're more powerful than the actual hero. Poor Jonathan. Finally got friends of his own and it's these guys.

FernWithy

I wish to state that every time the phrase “f***ing nerds” was uttered a cry of “NERRRRDS!!!!!!” by Ogre in Revenge of The Nerds rang out in my head. Completely involuntary.

Koz

On the DVD boxset this episode starts off season 6 disc 2 or as I referred to it, "The best disc in the set." I love all these episodes. I am so fucking excited for the next few reactions.

Mel Saville

Liam, the trio's motive is obvious: Rian Johnson destroyed Star Wars with The Last Jedi!

Pudungurte

Thanks soooo much. I love this episode and I did enjoy the different challenges the nerds gave to Buffy. They're definitely a different spin on this season, and I personally enjoy them. Can't wait for more reactions. Many thanks to you. :)

Grace

OH.. AND. They had stated that they are trying to get some statistical data on her, so they can figure out the best way to take her out, so , they are putting her through some tests.

Mark Judge

Haven't read the comments, but, for me, at this point, it is still a, yeah, what the heck, with a bit of, let's see if we are up to this challenge, We want to test ourselves. And, I think an original thought was, Take Over Sunnydale! Which in no way could you do without dealing with Buffy

Mark Judge

This is a very quotable episode and I find the idea of 'kitten poker' hilarious.

Bruce Trogdon

I worked retail for many many years and Buffy's mummy hand hour has kept my brain company during dry spells. LOL 😂 "You like slug?! Go with slug! She ain't gonna sleep with you anyway!" 🤣🤣

RavenSteal

I love the trios bantering in this episode. The whole Death Star argument was entirely up my alley, as well as the mention of other media where the "time loop" was utilized (Data in Star Trek: TNG being a favorite and I cackled when it was mentioned during my first watching), and then the whole Bond argument that went on for way too long and is literally something I think about randomly because it's just so classic (Connery IS better than Moore. Fight me!) Like, yeah, they're stereotypical nerdy, white guys. That's the bit/joke. But the Buffy writers didn't just leave it at that. . . they made their characterization DETAILED and REAL and AMAZING. And I love it so damn much.

Abby

i dont care what anyone says lol, I love the trio of nerds and i find their idiocy and geeky bickering hilarious every single time. I love how ridiculous they are. Interesting that Buffy turns to Spike again, not only for company, but to open up about how she is feeling about life (again). Though she mentions it to Giles at the end, I still see how clearly she is holding back from the scoobies and pretending to them. So hard, so sad. I wonder how much Giles gave her. I like to think it was a big lump sum to pay off her debts and have a nice cushion. He would have gotten good pay from the council, plus his old librarian salary, and now the magic box takings... I think Giles is pretty well off under the radar... I'm so glad he has helped Buffy this episode :)

Holi117

"where'd you guys get all the money to do this shit..." Uhh, Liam lol. They literally robbed a bank, remember? :D

Holi117

Let's see, in just five episodes we've seen Buffy experience derealisation (altered perception with the sense that the world isn't real), emotional blunting, anhedonia (the inability to find pleasure in life/normal activities), sleep disturbance, a metaphorical inability to cope with daily situations, a sense of being overwhelmed, alcohol misuse, detaching from usual friend group, & desperate attempts to act like everything's okay when it's not. So in just 5 episodes BTVS has managed to portray clinical depression more accurately than pretty much any other show ever did at the time (and arguably since as well).

Claire Eyles

I'm a Bond fanboy so I identified very much with their debates in this episode. I hate to say I agree with Andrew about Timothy Dalton. :)

Jarrod Wild

"Timothy Dalton should get an Oscar and BEAT SEAN CONNERY OVER THE HEAD WITH IT." The Bond bickering is my favorite!

Pam Nail

I don't know why but I kind of always forget about this episode until it comes up lol. My favorite part is the time loop at the magic box though!

Jenn Rose

Ah yes! Thank you, now I can sleep at night

"How are you paying for all this?" Remember: They robbed the bank while the demon caused mayhem in the last episode.

Steve Maxey

No probems for me.

Jarrod Wild

I like that this episode shows you each of the Nerds' specialties. Warren: technology (maker of bots and engineer of the first test) Andrew: summoner (flying monkeys and the gooey demons in the second test) Jonathan: alterations to reality (a world where he's the best at everything and forcing Buffy into a time loop in the third test)

Jarrod Wild

The whole Buffy/Angel reunion we don't get to see was symbolic of the animosity the WB and UPN had toward each other after the latter outbid Buffy away from the former.

Jarrod Wild

The video keeps freezing for me a few times and I have to reboot......Dunno, are there too many at once watching it or something? X

Kyle Jordan Ashley Brown

By off I mean out of sync not silent.

Sherlyn

Is the sound off for others too or just me?
