Buffy the Vampire Slayer - 5x15 “I Was Made to Love You” FULL REACTION

Comments

LOL It actually took me a second to get that.

Raven Dark

April: "I'm only supposed to love him. If I can't do that, what am I for? What do I exist for?" Liam: "You can work that out now." April: "It's getting dark." April's death was always powerful to me, and just really well done, but your words, so perfectly timed and ill fated, take something that is already emotional and turn it into a one-two gut punch. And that ending. God, I can't even. Twenty years later, and it still knocks the wind out of me. Perfect reaction as always.

Raven Dark

Personally love the robots name!

April Elizabeth

Liam, your friends are getting married? I'm pretty sure I'm like 5-10 yrs older than you and pffff if someone told me I should get married I'd be like hold your friggin horses I don't even know what taxes are. I really, really, really like the actor who played April. Likewise I like the one who played Dracula. Both are inherently sort of cheesy parts but I loved how they pulled them off. <3 <3 virtual hugs for next ep

That ending...I was shaking leading up to it knowing you had to see it. It's rough and shocking, I know. And you've seen what that leads to. Anyway...As for this episode, Giles as Buffy's dad figure is awesome. I love how protective he is of her and he wasn't giving Spike any leeway as well he shouldn't. I get what you mean about Buffy not being with anyone, sometimes being on your own is better. I think society puts it in our heads when we're very very young that everyone is 'meant to' be with someone else. I think the real thing is that not everyone needs a life long romantic partner, sure it can be good and some people have that, but others can be fully happy and not lonely on their own, with friends and family and jobs and hobbies and just enjoying their lives and I think we should let people know that that is okay too. That a life can be good and worthwhile without romantic love as well. I think we all see in reality that life long long partners isn't possible for most without a LOT of work because people change over time, no matter their age, and they don't always change in a way that allows them to remain together in the same ways or to get along the same ways. Yes, romantic partners can both change together and work at remaining close and loving each other, but it isn't always possible for many people. That's why most people have had more than one romantic partner in their lives, and can't find 'the one' because there isn't a 'one' for everyone. There are many people most of us can be compatible with, for a time anyway, there are probably a few that we could be with for life, and it can be nice, but it isn't necessary. A lot of people aren't able or willing to work hard to nurture a relationship through decades of life living side by side. Even our families we love them and want to see and be around them, but they can be exhausting and it's usually a good thing that we don't live in the same homes with them forever most of the time. I like the Tim Minchin song "If I didn't have you" (Everyone should check that song out if they've never heard it) because it's very true for most of us. It's nice that Buffy tries to tackle this issue as well and let her realize she can and sometimes should be on her own just being herself and not needing a romantic partner to find herself and fulfilled in life. Anyway, great reaction as always. Though, I'm dreading the next one to be honest, because I know it's going to be painful. Oh, and as for Spike, yeah I think being soulless and in love makes it harder for him. Seems like he's always had that bit of humanity in him, to form romantic bonds and fall in love, even without a soul, so he's got a twisted idea of what love is and should be.

Jayna

My mindset exactly. Haven't watched it yet. About to.

Jayna

Did you add it to your own dropbox? Sometimes if I just open a video and try to play it, the ending won't play, but if I add it to my own dropbox it lets me watch it.

Jayna

I absolutely despise Dropbox. Wouldn't let me watch the last 16 minutes. I restarted it over and over and over and everytime. Good grief.

Hi I also started shaking at the end, hurray This is the most underrated episode of the series, hands down. Not that it's the best episode ever, but it's hard to remember it's good or exists at all due to that looming dark cloud.

KT

I'm gonna try to enjoy this reaction and not think about the ending 😢

Jenn Rose

👏👏👏 You have my ultimate respect for powering through that end review. This episode is really good but that last scene always slams the door on thought. 🤯 Well done.

RavenSteal

FUN FACT: Britney Spears was originally offered the role of April, but due to scheduling conflicts it had to go to someone else.

Chip

Good review. Even though April and Spike are the title characters, this one is mostly about Buffy. And love. I like how Buffy relates to Dawn and April, the two most recently created beings in town. They were both created by others for their own purposes but Buffy is able to relate to each of them as a person - not that April is a person, but Buffy is, and that's how she relates. April's final scene reminds me of the end of “The Puppet Show” where Sid is about to complete his mission and knows it's time to die. April's mission was a faulty one but she did her best and Buffy sits with her until the end comes and learns her own lessons from what just happened.

The ending kinda throws the whole episode under the bus, because it was actually a pretty good episode on its own. But yeah the ending still has to be there I think, it succeeded at what it was attempting to do.

Jarrod Wild

excellent reaction as always.

We need to rescue Liam's future girlfriend from the maze. We need torches, a ball of twine to find our way out and a broadsword to kill the minotaur. Seriously, though, you're a good looking dude, Liam, you have a way with words and you have lots of heart. I am sure there must be many someone's out there for you. I really loves April's death. I love it when they can make inhuman characters be relatable without making them less inhuman. Because ... sometimes we are like sexbots, and all we want is to meet someone else's expectations. If we're all really honest, I think we can agree that Xander's words are true. Who doesn't sometimes fantasise about a sexbot? It doesn't have to be a literal sexbot, just a state of constant gratification without having to work for it or to consider the other party's needs. It is that inner infant thing. Most of us have watched porn at some point. That's pretty much the same thing, isn't it? But as Warren finds out, having everything you desire doesn't really lead to lasting happiness. I really like Spike as this uninhibited id-boy. Unlike Warren and Xander (and even Willow), he doesn't have the ability to stop himself from seeking gratification. Without a soul, he is a perfect hedonist. He will always do whatever he thinks will lead towards gratification of his desires. If Buffy won't be with him, he needs to build a substitute Buffy. Just like April, he is an inhuman character who still manages to be quite relatable.

And then 2 years later she had a cameo as a robot anyway. :)

I love this episode. It makes me a little sad that it gets overshadowed by... other episodes this season. This episode has its own very impactful thematic content. Buffy does some very significant soul-searching in this episode and shifts her outlook on life. And then... Well, we know Liam has seen the Body, so I can say the following. By contributing its own thematic weight, IWMTLY makes a big contribution to the impact of The Body.

And a little fun fact, britney spears was supposed to play April x

Shauni Livingstone

This is such a fun episode but on re watches is so hard to watch knowing what's coming next. Everytime joyce and buffy had funny moments during the episode I teared up and my stomach dropped when she walked in the house x

Shauni Livingstone

(Aggressively ignores other things) I think they were going with a metaphorical reason for April's batteries lasting longer, as long as she had something to keep her going, as long as she held on to the hope of finding Warren she could last, but once he ended it she didn't have it in her to keep going. I think that's what they might have been doing there. Also, I love helpful window fixing Xander in this episode. It's very charming. And just remember; "When things are sad... you just have to be patient. Because... because every... cloud has a silver lining. And... when life... gives you lemons... make... lemonade. And things are... always... darkest... before..."

Miranda

Code Red.

Shandler

Oof indeed. We're right there with you.

Briony Addey

Yeah, that ending is... Well. Yeah. *pats you* (Will save further commentary for a later time.) ❤

Bixgirl1

Poor sweetheart, we all remember that "Mom... Mom... Mommy?"

Louise Rigg

This is always that moment where you want to say something beforehand, but you bit your lip and hope for the best.

s jaco
