“They can’t kill off Angel. He’s the title of the show.” Tell that to Valerie Harper, who the producers killed and changed the name of her show from ‘Valerie’ to ‘Valerie’s Family’ and then later ‘The Hogan Family’. They were incredibly smart by bringing in the lovable Sandy Duncan to replace her. More recently Roseanne Barr was fired from her show ‘Roseanne’ for a racist tweet and the show’s name has been changed to ‘The Conners’. They’ve so far chosen not to replace her and I think that may be a mistake. It’s a hard job though as you really need someone both funny and bulletproof (loved by everyone). There aren’t too many I can think of besides Dolly Parton. Actually Reba could pull it off I think. So having your name or your character’s name in the title is no protection from being killed off. Never forget that.

I think I’d do ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’

I'd turn Renfield for Dru. She's the queen of evil.

Spike and Drusilla uses Angelus three times on BtVS (School Hard, Passion, Crush) and each time it is in reference to Angel-with-a-soul.

After she got her soul back she has 1) drugged and raped Angel for weeks and 2) framed him for a murder she herself committed.

I absolutely love this episode, and that last scene pretty much takes it from a 10 to an 11. One thing I love in particular is that, the first time I saw it, I never saw it coming, despite the fact that, 2 episodes ago, they TOLD us this was going to happen (just moments before Drusilla Spike bumped into them on the street in 1880, Darla objected to Dru calling her grandmother and Dru replied, "Don't be cross. I could be your mummy.")

Hmm, what song would I sing if I had to? I'd go with 'Send in the Clowns' by Sondheim (which is my all time favourite song of any genre of any era).

Really like how Darla calls him Angelus at the start of the episode but by the end she calls him Angel.
It's a shame W&H didn't get Drusilla there a day or two earlier. Could have saved Angel from a painful cross-burn.

Also, I completely understand why Cordelia and Wesley are barely tolerating Darla because she spent a bit making Angel's life harder, but it's a bit rude of them to actually hate her for her soulless actions, seeing as they work for Angel.

What amazing writing having us and Darla learn together exactly how much she means to him, right before killing her. Like we and Darla knew he was obsessed and that he loves her, but the Buffyverse has shown that there's a distinction between love and... idk, whatever Angel has for Darla, we don't have enough words for love in English. But it's the thing only souled beings are capable of having. And this episode expresses that feeling through his pleading and desperation, then his sacrifice, then his rageful grief, then his willingness to do to her what he considers to be damning her soul, something he resents her for doing to him. Then his face when he can't stop the cycle from starting over again is just so, like, Shakespearean.

That ending is everything: heartbreaking, horrifying, and extremely exciting.

The last minute of this episode is possibly the coolest minute of the entire Buffyverse.
