Angel - 2x07 “Darla” FULL REACTION

i agree. Though technically, we should already assume Angel has his soul in those scenes. In Buffy s2, we learn Angelus was cursed in 1898. the Boxer Rebellion scenes are dates 1900. :D It was awhile ago though, and tbf, even knowing all the dates doesn't always help as there have been instances of changing timelines a lot within both buffy and angel lol... Like s4 of Buffy, Spike says 'I'm only 126!" and in s2 of Buffy Giles reads from a book saying Spike was 'barely 200'. But in these episodes, we learn hs was turned in 1880, which means in s4, he would have been around 117 in vampire years, and Spike was definitely not 8-9years old when he was turned lol. I can forgive the books getting it wrong, as its probably alot of speculation and assumption given Spike's family line, but always bugs me that Spike doesn't know his own age! I love that Angelus with a soul - Angel - is not automatically a good guy. He wants his old life back, Darla and the whirlwind... and after she kicks him out again, he spend the next 90+ years hiding in and out of humanity, eating rats... lets not forget the hotel episode where he lets the demon feed off the residents because he is upset! That pesky cursed soul of his doesnt seem to be all its cracked up to be, or even all that he claims to the humans around him (in my opinion).

Julie Benz is amazing! ❤️ Can’t wait for you to see the next couple of episodes!

I love how much they blur the line between the "good" and "evil" versions of Angel and Darla. Human Darla has been performing evil deeds for months, with a soul. Likewise, Angel didn't immediately start doing good or avoiding evil after getting his soul back. He wanted to return to his former self and be with Darla, even though it would mean committing more evil. He murdered several people as Angel, even if they were "rapists and scoundrels." Angel nowadays would never use them being bad people as an excuse to eat them. Darla feels terrible for all the horrible things she's done, yet she still wants to be turned back into the monster that did all of it. Also yeah, "You think you did me a favor? You damned me." gives me chills every time. Though it is reminiscent of "I didn't ask to be born" which is kind of funny.

I was semi convinced Angelus was jealous watching FFL. It's almost like Angel's expression there was him trying to figure out how Angelus would react too, I don't think he'd be high-fiving Spike either.

It would be interesting to see how a soulless Angelus would have reacted to Spike killing the Chinese slayer. He would have had to do something to maintain his dominance in the group. Darla is obviously worried about what this will mean. "Spike ... Spike was out killing a slayer."

It was all right

I love they brought back Darla in Angel as she was severely underused in btvs and shouldn't have been killed off so early

I'm so glad you watched Fool for Love first and then Darla. I know some watch orders put Darla first, but I really think you miss out if you watch Fool for Love already knowing it was Angel that William ran into on the street, or that Angel already had his soul back in those Boxer Rebellion scenes.

i love this 'cross-over' so much, seeing our vampires in the past and their different POV's. I really wish that 'this' darla was in s1, like I just wish they had all the backstories in their minds even if they were never going to use them lol. In Buffy s1 Angel, Darla is at Angel's apartment and he says 'what's with the catholic school girl routine? Last time I saw you it was kimonos...' and here we see the last time angel saw darla was the boxer rebellion in china and darla has been wearing kimonos! I love they called back that tiny detail, and just wish we'd got to see the bad ass darla of old, instead of the weak snivelling version we got in buffy s1 lol. Great episode. I adore the Darla arc of this season, its SO good! Great reaction! x

You are more patient with your cat than I am with mine. So kudos! ... Angel having the moment of his turn from evil being the rescue of a baby reminds me of a certain other show. I don’t want to make a big thing about it; it just made me think of it when I saw it. (And I don’t mean it was being copied.) But it’s really just about as clear a sign of goodness as you can offer: saving the most innocent of lives. ... The companion episodes here of Buffy and Angel are really just plain cool. Crossovers are just fun as heck; I don’t know what else to say about them. And getting the backstory of so many filled in is great. Joss Whedon has spoken before of how he had this image of four vampires walking away from a burning city and, well, voila. ... You know Sam Anderson is really a fine actor. And I will always want him to deliver some but of dialogue to Lindsey or Lilah or even Angel himself or whoEVER explaining some evil machination of Wolfram & Hart and then, after delivering it with chilling matter-of-factness and disturbing likability, add the simple tagline, “And, oh yes: I love Fonzie.” But he won’t. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Ah well. Great reaction and I was really thinking you would like the 7th episodes of both shows! 👍🏻

I always forget how good this episode is

homoerotic 80s volleyball scene personified

Spike only had brief new footage in the episode, but it was still crucial. If he hadn’t accidentally eaten the gypsy leader’s wife and kids, Darla might have gotten Angelus back that very night. So very critical though accidental role he played!

Richard Lucas

Wow, I've never laughed so much during a closing commentary. Your cat was cracking me up!

"Squee," I say. I say, "Squee."
