Amazing reaction to a beautiful episode! I adore "Family". Amber Benson's acting really stands out to me, especially in that scene at the Magic Box which I lovvve so much <3 It's just one of those episodes I always look fwd to on a rewatch. Really looking fwd to the rest of the season!

Starting my morning with Buffy this way. Hooray! This is such a great episode, but then for me starting S5 pretty much all episodes are great or even better ^^.

There are no “really shit” episodes in season 5. There is one that kind of just treads water, and I have a kind of meh reaction to that one, but that’s as bad as it gets, and I never skip a one on rewatches.

I am always weirded out and turned off by that Buffy and Xander scene. I guess they really are sheltered, heteronormative kids (which also encompassed a majority of the audience at the time) but the othering conversation is icky, and they don't show them mingling with Tara and Willow's friends, so I don't know what Joss is trying to say here.

in the same episode nonetheless

For me, it's more in the performance of the actor or the directing (Joss Whedon). The demon was running to attack Mr. Maclay, who stumbled back in shock and fell. I think the actor's physicality looked oddly defensive when the demon was so far away, and it came across like they were closer. Buffy swept her leg under the demon to trip him. She did not toss the demon towards Mr. Maclay.

Loved this reaction. As someone who is part of the LGBT community I've been through similar situations in terms of having to take over as a new family for people who's own family have 'demonised' them, so this episode has always meant a lot to me. Plus Tara and Willow are freakin' adorable together, that ending *happy sigh* :D

I think that a difference between Willow and Tara is that Tara's greatest fear is to be "demonic," while Willow's greatest fear is that she is a worthless nerd, as seen in "Restless." Tara wants to be good, while Willow wants to be impressive and useful.
I think the subtext for the conversation between Buffy and Xander is that Willow was a friend before she came out, while Tara is just "the lesbian." They use wicca as a euphemism. It's similar to how a white person can have a white friend without being fully comfortable with black people in general.

Non reaction related comment, but interesting that so many people are having issues with dropbox. I'm the complete opposite, I've found it better than google drive and I live in Australia where our internet is notoriously crap. Is there anything via google on issues specific to dropbox? Maybe someone has some ideas on how to fix lagging and buffering issues, just a thought.

The last episode contained major developments. So that's where your mind is at going into this episode... but what does the Buffyverse serve up? Surprise! A Tara-centric episode.
I love the Buffyverse.

"Amy Adams, who starred in American Hustle."
Which also starred Jeremy Renner and Elisabeth Rohm... who both appeared on Angel.

No you are not. I have had this for a while. Only since he started using Dropbox. I have noticed it with another reactor as well but not this bad. The other reactor also uses Dropbox.

I've been so excited for you to watch this episode and it was definitely worth the wait! So many touching moments, especially when everyone stands up for Tara and the ending dance scene. Ahhh such a great episode! I loved your after thoughts, you always catch on to so many things and even give insight I never thought about. Looking forward to more as usual! ❤

I did as well. I restarted it three or four times. Then tried opening it through Chrome but still had to be started a few more times. I thought it was just my phone as she’s been a little bit of a bitch lately but apparently not.

I love this episode but have to restart it every 2 mins? I don't understand. I can't be the only who is having problems with videos.

I do love this episode however, I want to punch whoever edited it in the neck with my car. The father falls back from getting attacked by absolutely nothing. Then Buffy hits the demon toward him. That is my only criticism.

Great reaction, I love this one for the freakout reactors have when they recognise Amy Adams. I also love this one because it was nice to have a Tara episode for a change. I particularly like that Tara makes that insect reflection joke and no-one gets it but she repeats it to Willow and they laugh about it. A really small detail that highlights how perfect they are for each other!

I really enjoy this episode and the way it picks up on so many loose threads from earlier chapters. Just out of curiosity, though, did anyone else have major issues with this one during playback? Lots (LOTS) of freezes, buffers, and I-just-give-up-already moments - I think I restarted it at least a dozen times and still had to skip a chunk of the middle. 😟

Yeah, everyone was finding their place on the Scoobie family! When Buffy says "we're family", every main character, even Spike, is in that shot... except Riley, who was doing... that, instead. Subtle way of showing that Riley was feeling disconnected

Just got off work from Amazon yes!!! Some relaxing Buffyverse Angelverse I cried at ..you just have to go through me ...let's see if Liam found rain within his pupils ...Sandy the Vampire with Riley at the bar is the innocent girl from Dopplegangland Willow vamps. Little easier egg there for you that small characters can be recycled I mean Lily wss on Anne 😂 inside joke
