Enjoy!

Buffy the Vampire Slayer - 5x05 "No Place Like Home" FULL REACTION

Comments

Haha, I love this. *Cue Doc Brown voice*"She's being erased! Erased...from existence!"

Raven Dark

There's so many great subtle lines of foreshadowing in this. Willow's line, "I just have all this involuntary empathy for Dawn." It IS involuntary, in a way because Dawn was created by the monks, which means everything everyone feels for her is, in a way, fabricated.

Raven Dark

This is one of the reasons I love s5 so much the scoobies are close again after drifting apart so much in s4. Also having scenes of the gang just hanging out and talking about normal stuff are usually my favourite scenes.

Sarah McKinlay

thereโ€™s not a bad season of buffy but season 5 is just on another level!!

Sarah McKinlay

My advice to Riley: get a job. Geez, how long has it been since he left the Initiative? Everyone else has made big life choices (renting an apartment, buying a small business, getting a job, Buffy exploring her Slayerhood -- Buffy did magic!), and Riley is just clinging to Buffy. I would have more sympathy for him if I liked him, or if he were at least interesting, but there's nothing to his character. Captain Cardboard, indeed.

Rachael

"Did you [make the tea], or did you just take credit for it? Hmm? HMM? Demon-child-...thing"

Pate

I love that line too. Buffy and the audience are thinking about "Dawn's secret", but Dawn shows her own genuine feelings and perspective that are not necessarily connected to the "key".

UTU49

Even without the 5th word, it's STILL a pretty good line.

UTU49

LOVED your reaction. This is SUCH a great episode. Honestly, I don't think there is an episode this season that I don't like. I'm so beyond excited any time a reactor gets to this season. Pretty please binge react to buffy and angel hehe!! its just so damn good :D

I think for those who have watched a number of times over the years, its pretty much the reaction we all had. At first we are like 'wtf, who is this kid?!' then with the episode all about Dawn, everyone is just thrown and confused by the way everyone knows her so well, as if she has always been there, (as we were supposed to be), and I think feeling jarred that way automatically made us all suspicious of her, and in turn find her very annoying and out of place. Right up until the reveal at the end of this episode, where suddenly we have a lot of answers, and we feel how buffy feels... Buffy was SO annoyed by dawn until she understood the situation and was able to accept and love her as a sister, knowing dawn is an innocent and needs her, and so on. Like you, the more I watch, the more I like Dawn, and find herfunny, cute or just plain sad... like that line at the end where she worries about their mum.

Holi117

I've always thought she did a fantastic job, and the more times I watch s5 (which is often lol), the more I appreciate what she brought to the character in such a short space of time - this episode for example, you get a VERY clear snapshot of what she is about. She did a great job.

Holi117

I do love the trio of lines relating to that nursery rhyme used throughout. Very nice on the part of the writers.

Holi117

Completely agree and I have always thought the same thing. Buffy's over-irritation at Dawn doing things everyone says is just normal, and Buffy's suddenly feeling left out with her mum, or like she wishes she was an only child, etc - all to me showed that as the Slayer, she was aware on some level of a change. I love that they wrote it this way, and how it plays into the universe building on Buffy's senses and feelings as a Slayer and everything.

Holi117

Canโ€™t watch for another 12 hours or more ๐Ÿ˜ž

Something about the scooby gang in season 5 is just so perfect. They're so tight and they feel like family to each other and also to me. There's nobody I'd rather spend time with than these people.

HuntingSwan

Rewatching via reactions so many times has made come to appreciate Dawn. When I first watched Buffy, I hated Dawn, but admittedly she has grown on me. ๐Ÿ’•

Ceara Abrahamsz

"She seems nice." "Thank you, Exposition Monk." ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ God, I love your asides.

Bixgirl1

"Out for a walk. . . bitch."

First thing I want to point out is the connection to Justice League and the Zack Snyder cut we all want to see. It's just a little connection to this episode but it'll make sense once I explain. See when the guy day says to the best that he has a family in hopes of being spared is the same line Josh Whedon uses in Justice League when Cyborgs dad is with the captive scientist being kept by Steppenwolf. Josh uses it here on Buffy and in Justice League and both victims suffer either death or here you saw what the beast did. So if it wouldn't have been for the greedy executive as Warner Bros. to force Josh Whedon to cut Zack Snyder two part movie from 6 hours to 2 hours of Justice League crammed story then we would have never seen Josh get to use that line in Justice League which really was suppose to be 6 hours that Kevin Smith called Ender's game before marvel even thought it up. Zack Snyder finished Justice League saga already had Batman dying to save Lois Lane to sacrifice himself in the time line to prevent Superman going evil but the Warner Bros.executive were scared to had Batman killed and didn't give Zack Snyder the green light instead they changed to Josh to cut the movie up in time before December so the executives could get their end of year bonus for having Justice League be under two hours so they could sell tickets. All for two executives wanting Christmas bonus because after that they planned to resignation with wb but wanted bonus before they left. And that's why we have this Buffyverse Justice League connection.

I never really think Dawn is annoying, and I think the end of this episode is super emotional in a really nicely understated way. As someone who's had a parent with some very serious health issues for the last few years, I think Dawn's "What's wrong with Mom?" is outright heartbreaking and very well delivered by Michelle Trachtenberg.

Thomas Hansen

My first time through, I never appreciated Clare Kramer's performance as The Beast, but dang. She really created the character in some very strong, bold strokes.

FernWithy

Out for a walk.... bitch Lol

Joe's Mama

Riley used to be the proverbial โ€œbig fish in a small pond.โ€ He was the favorite of his mentor and the best at what he did. Up until last week he seemed to still have some residual affects from what they did to him. I don't think hearing Dawn's comments โ€“ especially if they originated from Buffy โ€“ is going to help him adjust to his new reality. He's in danger of proving Graham correct by becoming โ€œThe Mission's boyfriend.โ€

Bruce Trogdon

I caught that too! ๐Ÿค“๐Ÿ‘Œ

RavenSteal

The Beast mentions sitting on a tuffet, which is what Little Miss Muffet did, eating curds and whey, which is what the mad man called Dawn.

Moon Logic

Just finished watching.. love the synchronised glasses adjustment at 14.29 between you and Giles, I did have to rewind by a minute to check the time stamp but it wouldn't let me so i had to watch again from the beginning ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿคฃ

I'm skipping over EVERYTHING else to watch this one.

UTU49

ahh... s5 is just so good! โ˜…โ™ฅ thanks for another amazing reaction!

One thing I really love that they've done in these first few episodes is the way Buffy has been constantly irritated by Dawn from the moment she first appeared UNTIL she found out the truth about where Dawn came from -- it was only after that, at the end of this episode, we see Buffy showing Dawn genuine affection. It makes me think of how, in Superstar, Buffy was the only one to realize there was something wrong with the world, everyone else just assumed things were supposed to be that way, but Buffy realized something had changed. The changes related to Dawn weren't as glaringly obvious, but I think there was still something inside Buffy that instinctively felt something was wrong, and was making Dawn a bigger irritation to her that was probably warranted by anything Dawn had said or done, and it was only when Buffy had answers as to where that was coming from that the irritation went away. It's like she needed to know the truth that Dawn wasn't really her sister before she fully accepted Dawn as her sister.

peggin

Oh thank god, I was starting to cramp up from hitting refresh every 5 seconds (LOL). Just kidding, been looking forward to this one. :D

Claire Eyles

Spoiler.....................You mean the mad Beast?

Ariel17

I've been refreshing all day, waiting for this. So many good moments. Spike and his five words or less. Giles giving Anya a job. The face off with the mad Beast. The Dawn reveal. Love this! And I'm thrilled that you loved the Giles-in-wizard-garb moment. One thing I love about this show is that they trust their characters so much now. I think a lot of directors would have shown Giles, allowed for a laugh, and then just kind of not followed up. This show allowed the camera to linger on Giles, then to linger on Buffy, then to show Giles's awkward reaction. It trusted the acting abilities of Sarah Michelle Gellar and Anthony Stewart Head and didn't throw in a cheap laugh line; the silence was funnier and more effective. A wonderful choice!

Bean's friend

My favorite Spike line, in a mere 5 words or less.

Jarrod Wild

Definitely my favorite episode of the season so far, as well. So timeline-wise, the monks conjured up Dawn into human form the very same night that Buffy faced off against Dracula at his lair back in the season premiere. Earlier in the episode, Joyce says how the house is going to be quiet again now that Buffy was going to be back in school. Safe to say that the first time we see Dawn is also Buffy's first time "actually" seeing her as well, if that makes sense. Also, REALLY loved Anya this episode. I feel like I love her more with every rewatch.

Ritchie

So been waiting for this one ๐Ÿ˜
