Buffy the Vampire Slayer - 5x02 “Real Me” FULL REACTION

I thought once Dawn said she liked Willow you wouldn't think she was so bad. lol

TheMew

When I first saw this episode, I was irritated with Dawn and kind of bored, but the more I watch it, the more I love it. I guess that's partly because now I know where it's going. And Liam, I hate to tell you this, but I think all hope for you and Willow has passed. LMAO, I adore how much you love her.

Raven Dark

Another episode that I can't get to play all the way thru. Stops at 28 minutes. No wonder Dropbox is free.

Paul Lytle

I'm glad you liked it. It's a fun episode for sure. Seeing Buffy deal with Dawn is a joy and the interactions are great.

Angela Colon

Wow, that’s crazy because it really is such a good episode!

Richard Lucas

So twice in 5 seasons is “overusing” it? Ok...

S144

I wonder how many are going to send you the game of life in your next P.O. box opening ..? 🤣

Watching it now, it feels like such a strong episode. I’ve never thought of 5 as having any weak episodes.

Richard Lucas

Liam, I just wanted to say thank you so much for moving the vid from upper right to closer to center right. It’s perfect! I can’t tell you how much I appreciate this!

Richard Lucas

I just never had a problem with Dawn, Riley or most other characters people don’t like. There’s only one Buffyverse character I never liked, and that character is a long long way from now.

Richard Lucas

Holy Crap, I noticed it for the first time just now and came here to say this as well. But Drac was a week ago so maybe Willow and Tara talked to Joyce about it after the spell and it was right after that when Dawn said what she said, so maybe that’s why Joyce was a little freaked out having just found out. Both are good jokes though. But it’s so weird that we both just noticed that.

Richard Lucas

ahh "Be back before Dawn..." LOL I love how you and I had the same reaction, when I first watched this episode, about her as soon as the episode started they showed her. Pure Annoyance! It's also funny how you really liked this episode because it's considered one of the bad ones for this season, which is just a testament to how amazing this Season is going to be! <3

Stephen Mintac

Happy Birthday Liam! ***In Drusilla's voice***

Stephen Mintac

I love how Harmony struggles to comprehend that Buffy... IS NOT IN THE HOUSE.

UTU49

Hey, Happy Birthday!

Bellatronics

Btw - as you can see, I'm not going along with all the humorous attempts to brainwash you into thinking you've seen Dawn around before and have a terrible memory , LOL. Buffy fans ! - can never resist this in season 5. :D

Bellatronics

Sister shenanigans - LOL “This guy’s woke” - LOL Well done on remembering Tara’s ’Be back before Dawn” - and even more so on remembering Faith’s comment on a little sister in the season 3 dream. When I first heard Faith’s “little sister is coming”, I thought she was referring to herself as the younger slayer. I can’t remember how that worked in my head - that it refererd to her coming out of the coma maybe? “Can I trade in the children for more cash?” I love Anya playing the game of life. And Xander is indeed great at babysitting Dawn. Xander is very likeable at the moment. Great in the last ep and this one, and as you mentioned in your review, season 4 was good for him ( in the most part). Big improvement from earlier seasons. Harmony and her gang are so hilarious in this episode - just the idea of them. Poor Spike’s nose in this ep! :D I love Giles taking over the Magic Box. You said last season that he needed a new project. “How bored were you last year?” “I watched Passions with Spike. Let us never speak of it.” :D :D I said somewhere else on this ep, that there’s something about these 1st season 5 eps that is indeed really watchable. They are really entertaining, and fun and light hearted with a lot of good humour. But there’s something else - it’s to do with the lighting, and the colours, and the music and the clothes & hairstyles. Everything is bright and colourful and beautiful, and gorgeous hair and clothes going on - I love Buffy’s season 5 hair so far. Production & film quality keeps going up a notch each season, so it partly that I think. Now it’s kinda weird that I enjoy that so much cos Im not always a fan of things being stylish and slick - but it’s more bright and cheerful, than some kinda polished slick empty sameness look that many later shows have. Epitomised maybe bright the bright red sportyness of Giles new car? And I love that contrast on Buffy, of the bright sunny cheerfulness that contrasts with the dark night scenes and evil and danger ( though not really much of that in this ep - Harmony! Lol). You don’t really see it on most other supernatural shows, where there’ s usually too much gloom and gothicness, and too many night scenes. Of course, that’s been there since ep one, it’s just very noticeable on this ep. I like that you forgive Dawn for the annoying little sister stuff that you recognise as a trope rather than just outright being annoyed by her. On Dawn - or Michelle Trachtenberg - being fully grown up now. Interesting thing with Dawn is that she was actually played by a 14 year old, rather than someone several years older than their character. Which is why she feels like an actual kid - so that works better with being the ‘annoying little immature sis’. Though also, they originally wrote Dawn to be 12 before they cast her, and I think that shows a bit. I really enjoy that you are excited by the way everyone treats Dawn like she’s always been there - as so many people get annoyed or very frustrated by it. “Maybe Dawn was created by Willow & Tara’s spell going wrong and they don’t know it.” - very interesting theory! Great thoughts there Liam. My comments from last week on the Buffy ep and Angel 20x02 disappeared - again! So will repost shorter versions v.soon.

Dawn never bothered me.

Cheyne Johnson

Dawn was never as annoying to me as she was to everyone else. Obviously, she has classic younger sibling tropes—but overlooking that, I like her so much. Her crush on Zander is adorable. Her love of Willow and Tara is relatable. Her sisterly relationship with Buffy is believable. I just like her characterization. I don't know. I usually dislike characters that the majority of the fanbase hate too (Riley for example) but I don't feel that way with Dawn. And I'm glad you're giving her a chance.

Abby

I've seen this season several times over the years and I've tried to like Dawn, I really have. I just can't bring myself to do it. She annoys me to no end.

Aimee

Oh, and happy birthday.

Steve Maxey

Your reaction made me notice an inconsistency between the previous episode and this one that I’d never noticed before. In 5x01, Joyce seems oblivious of the romantic aspect of Willow and Tara’s relationship—not just with the “Sometimes you feel like giving up on men entirely” comment, but also by her lack of recognition of Tara and Willow’s reaction to it. But in this episode, in Dawn’s narration as the gang is walking to The Magic Box, she suggests that sometime before Joyce was oblivious, she was in the know and uncomfortable with Dawn “learning some of the stuff” Willow and Tara do together. And it was pretty clear that the joke was that Dawn assumed it was the magic, while Joyce was thinking of the sex.

Steve Maxey

great reaction and great episode. I love how this episode focuses on Dawn and her relationship to everyone, and that they have taken the time to do that :) So excited for your next buffy reaction :D

Holi117

I remember when I first watched this how annoying I found Dawn but being the youngest myself, as I've gotten older, I've realised that I was Dawn. I think the show portrays siblings perfectly in this episode and of course has helped me appreciate my own big sister a lot more lol. I think this ones pretty underrated, I really enjoyed it and I'm so glad your loving Anya. I just love her

Donna

Aw! :'(

Moon Logic

It's so adorable seeing Liam trying not to fall for Dawn :p Just give up! You got two of the hints about Dawn from the bedroom conversations. There is one more that is relevant for this episode. The man harrassing Dawn mentions "curds and whey," which is what Little Miss Muffet from the rhyme eats. Faith mentions "Little Miss Muffet" all the way back in her and Buffy's first shared dream in S3.

Moon Logic

I really like this episode, but that is currently, I can't really remember what I thought the first time I saw it.

s jaco

I love this episode and can't understand why it's so low in the ratings.. ? Go fish scores higher!!!!!! Great reaction as always. The opening credits are always my favourite part of a new season... remember Jonathan 🤣

RIP Brian Turk, who played Mort. He died last week.

KT

Can I trade in the children for more cash? Certainly one of my all time top Anya lines.

Jarrod Wild

Aw I *loved* your reaction! Glad you're enjoying S5 so far, it really is my favourite season (still can't believe you've reached this part of the show! :))) And I agree - episodes have been very enjoyable/"watchable" so far. Liked all your thoughts on the characters, including Anya and Dawn! This episode had some pretty funny moments <3

I've always thought this was a fun episode. It does a nice job of depicting the current state of Dawn's relationships with all the other characters.

UTU49

StoryOfUsFinalChapter here from YouTube. First of. I know it's your birthday Liam but did you have to point out Buffy's "cake" slice at the beginning of the episode geez lol. And your look when Willow tells Tara she's one of the good guys and you caught Tara's little gesture there I cringed because ugh that almost spoiled it lol ..Dawn is mentioned away with her father in season 1 I think you missed the scene and theres even a glimpse of her in a photo, a photo with the whole family in it. a scene when Buffy dad is talking I was watching you react to those scenes in particular but at those precise moments your attention was drawn away by you taking notes and I was screaming at the reaction because you didn't see but also screamed in a good way that you missed it because your reaction when we now see Dawn is priceless and everyone new to Buffy missed those scenes because Josh Whedon hid them well into the episode stories back in season one. I encourage to watch each season one episode again and pay attention because guess what.. Um not telling you where to find them because it's so fun. Lol that scene in this episode where Buffy called Dawn little idiot man when I first saw that in the past I teared up with the music playing and seeing BOTH Xander and Riley both look away feeling sorry for Dawn man that was a good emotional scene.
