Buffy the Vampire Slayer - 4x18 "Where the Wild Things Are" FULL REACTION

Comments

I wish there had been more Spike... him being trapped inside or staying around would have been incredible lol

Holi117

this episode is so gross lol, ew, Riley. but now all I see is Passion of the Nerds little clips haha

Holi117

Giles singing is the only good thing about this episode and Spike and Anya moments

Sarah McKinlay

I’d rather the praying mantis episode

Sarah McKinlay

I don't know if it's what you're remembering, but responding to the Choices ep of Buffy, I laughed at the Mayor calling Angel a "creature of the night" and said it gave me Rocky Horror flashbacks. I also vaguely recalled a certain person's connection to that show, and you chimed in after that. 🤗

Bean's friend

On the negative side, they seem to point towards the 'A' story being connected to the greater season story arc with vampires and demons behaving unnaturally in the teaser, the suggestion that Adam, or something Adam is doing, is causing unnatural things to happen and the hypothesis that it could simply be demonic energy from the Initiative lab below Lowell House. They don't technically rule any of those things out as the source of the problem, but making Buffy & Riley the “battery” running the horror show doesn't solve the problem either. The next time they have sex in Lowell House it should all start up again. Poor Buffy, the first guy she has sex with more than once and it turns into another horror story.

Bruce Trogdon

On the positive side, there are interesting bits for every character who's name doesn't end in “why.” Brief moments which show us some concerns/fears/issues which have been in the background – sometimes in the very deep background – for the characters. I don't think there's any movement on those issues, certainly nothing like resolution, it's just an opportunity to mention things that should probably be dealt with. “But my dreams, they aren't as empty as my conscience seems to be. I have hours, only lonely. My love is vengeance, that's never free.” Great song.

Bruce Trogdon

Excellent comment. I love that part too.

Bellatronics

LOL !!!

I enjoyed your laugh about this ep after the credits, 😁 ‘Interesting” - Liam’s new super secret code for - “that ep was really weird and off and bad” 😝 - used twice recently over on Angel. Lol, you are very entertaining Liam - “I’m never saying orgasm walls ever again.” I think the old lady was the least weird part of the story, this kind of religious abuse combined with physical abuse of children is very common and very true to life. ( It’s also emotional abuse, telling kids they are dirty and sinful for being naturally sexual human beings) It’s the writers ideas of how that would manifest in the present day in the house that are super fuckin weird !!! “Man just why? Why?’ - LOL - exactly.😂😂 Yes, ASH has a beautiful singing voice! In the early 90s he played Frank-N-Furter in a West End production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. My icon is ASH for the cover of the music CD of the 1990/91 West End show. I love his make up. I have a feeling I have told you this already, but I can’t think what ep would have brought this up previously - someone help out if we’ve discussed this with Liam before! Tony reprised the role singing in two Rocky Horror charity concerts in 2000 and after Buffy was over, along with Amber Benson who plays Tara. See this is where I think I’ve mentioned it before, cos I said “another Buffy cast member, but can’t say who it is yet.” And therefore couldn’t share the link. Here it is now if you wanna watch - non-spoilery as long as you don’t check out connected vids in the youtube list. The one in 2000: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LH43hTh5KI Amber first, Tony at 3:30 mins The 2006 show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKgVln8XmuE Check out ASH looking utterly fabulous in his fishnet stockings and lace gloves & corset. 💖💖🔥💋 Take note Xander! - someone in their 40s capable of being utterly sexy. I rather liked Xander as an Ice Cream Man. Poor Xander and all his different jobs. There is fan theory in a few fics I’ve read, that Xander has a high job turn over cos of late nights doing Scoobie stuff interfering and getting him fired. That really works as head canon for me. I really like Xander & Anya together. “The plot punched me in the face.” - 😂🤣😂🤣Thanks for your very amusing commentary Liam. Omg ‘hammering it home’ - this ep really brings out the unintentional innuendo. “I’m not gonna be in hurry to re-watch that one.” 😂😂 You genuinely did make laugh out loud - cackle even - several times in your reaction/analysis. That final cringe look on your face as you turn off the camera …..😁😁 👏👏👏👏 🙌🙌🙌 [Oh and btw, my first comment was notes before I got to your end analysis , cos if I did it all in one comment it just gets too long - hence me saying stuff that you did end up referring to.]

Bellatronics

Just don’t cross the streams!

Richard Lucas

This is probably in my bottom ten too, but I don’t hate it. There’s only one thing I ever hated about the Buffyverse.

Richard Lucas

Me too. Definitely in my top ten cold openings of the show.

Richard Lucas

I have to agree this episode and Doomed are at the bottom for me.💜

Catherine Thurmond

Liam: “That’s disturbing.” Pretty much sums up this whole episode. Despite all the Disturbing, and how weird this episode is, like most Buffy eps, it has a lot of good moments. Spike and Anya in the Bronze connecting over loss of evil powers :) Spike talking himself out of helping :) Giles’ beautiful singing at the Expresso Pump - and the Scoobies reaction. Anya, just in every scene. Perfect comic timing and perforrmace, and then she rescues Xander despite a vine going right through her hand. (EXCUSE ME Riley with your no-one got hurt!) Btw, notice how Tara’s pretty much become one of the Scoobies in the last 2 eps? I like how naturally that has happened since her helping out in ‘Who Are You?’. Oh yeah, one thing I really don’t like - hard eyes Xander - the idea that someone in their 40s playing guitar means they’re having a mid life crisis. FFS. Liam: “What the fuck was that.” And so say all of us. Even 18 years on :)

Bellatronics

Very interesting

Liam, would you say this is one of the most "interesting" episodes yet?

UTU49

There are lots of cool, funny, or interesting moments in this ep, but overall this is one of the weakest episodes in the series -- IMO, obvs.

UTU49

I loved BB and BE. WTWTA is truly weak... at least for me.

UTU49

That feeling when you have to leave the party early, because your trousers are full of ectoplasm from you standing by the poltergasm wall for too long.

Moon Logic

I don't really mind this episode, but your reactions make everything better tbh. Can't wait for 4x19! Also "It's quite nice seeing them do it together"....be careful what you say LOL

Jenn Rose

I forgot this episode was coming next, lol. For me it's unwatchable. Great reaction though...glad we got it out of the way and at least Giles' singing is a highpoint <3

The plot isn't great but there is still character stuff to enjoy like you said. I like the development of Anya and her and Xanders relationship. Xander is a bit of a jerk to her (but I liked your point that it might have been the poltergeists' work), but Anya shines when she decides to go back, rescues Xander and puts herself at risk for the mission. Giles singing is gold, I like that Tara is getting more integrated to the group.

Lisa Kristin

To put it in perspective, this episode on IMDB is in the bottom 10 of the entire series. Also to note, this is actually my least favourite episode ever of Buffy.

Salv Mancuso

I do wish we could see Marc & Sarah's reaction when they got their scripts for this episode 🤣

They could have done something at least halfway decent with this ep if 1.) Buffy and Riley had not been blamed for it, and 2.) if it had said anything about the sexual hangups of our characters. I mean they set that whole thing up with Xander and Anya at the beginning, and then the resolution had nothing to do with what the house was doing. It didnt even really escalate their conflict. And then a big missed opportunity exploring Willow and Tara, since it's new Tara-tory for Willow. My favorite part was Giles yelling at the old woman for being a serial child abuser. Especially in the context of him being a great dad to all the scoobies and not claiming any sort of ownership over their sex lives like a lot of parents (especially dads) do. "If it's guilt you're after, I'm not your man. All you will get from me is my support and my respect."

KT

I just.... I don't need to see teenagers having public orgasms in front of each other. Thank God for Giles.

Bisibia

"It's nice seeing them do it together"...he said unknowingly

Nick Velasquez

The weirdness of this episode is it doesn't make me hate it. I just forget it exists until I come to it on rewatches. My mind blanks it out. 🙈 You seriously made me laugh with the end recap though! And also "Why is Forest getting screen time?!" LOL 😂

RavenSteal

I adore I Robot You Jane so I can definitely find the good in most eps :)

I forgot it existed as well! I had memory smashed Giles singing into a different episode I think. LOL 🤣

RavenSteal

What are you talking about? It's the best episode ever! It has cool Tara moments, hilarious Spike quotes, Giles singing, a haunted house, Xander and Anya going Jumanji, Forrest hiding away like a weasel and, last but not least, ice cream! And there's NOTHING ELSE in it! NOTHING. ELSE. IN. IT.

Khanach

I'm so excited for the next episode, can't wait!

Eliza

Another Beer Bad and Bad Eggs. Fandom hates, while I'm perfectly able to enjoy it. Whatever. Lots of small good moments, but admittedly not great on a macro level.

Thomas Hansen

"Enjoy (if that's possible)!" -- Oh, please. Don't drink the fan's kool aid regarding this episode. It's not the best, but it is FAR from the worst (it's not even on my top 20 weakest episodes of the show, many are from seasons 6 and 7), and it doesn't even come close to the badness of Teacher's Pet, I Robot You Jane, Some Assembly Required, Go Fish and Beer Bad. and it has several redeeming moments. True, it is one of the weakest episodes of season 4, but I still find it enjoyably.

S144

I'd choose this one over the praying mantis episode 😎

Yeah, this episode is pretty definitely the lowest point of Season 4. Giles singing (and the crew’s reaction to it) and good character writing and acting for Spike and Anya make it tolerable. But just barely. You made it through. On to the next one. I don’t think it counts as a spoiler to say that the next episode is considerably better than this one. Because it would be hard to be much worse.

Steve Maxey

I added this comment over on YouTube before I remembered that you're possibly not reading comments over there. You seemed confused by the vines throughout the house: it's a reference to Maurice Sendak's <i>Where the Wild Things Are</i> (such a delightful book). Honestly, it's one of the only things I like about this episode.

Bean's friend

Definitely a weird one. They certainly could've done a better job at explaining what was causing all the shenanigans. And why show spirits? Just have disembodied voices representing the psychic impressions left on the house, that give us clues as to what happened there. At least then Giles would have some evidence that the kids were abused, rather than just assuming. And why plants?! An invisible energy barrier would make more sense, and maybe the only way to enter is to pass through with the person you love, which would bring the Xander/Anya storyline full circle. The only reason I sit through this episode is to hear Giles sing... which literally has nothing to do with the plot of the episode, lol

I absolutely detest this ep for almost everything except Anthony Stewart Head finally singing on Buffy, but your reaction made me literal belly laugh. Kudos to you trying to find the most diplomatic attempt to find *anything* positive to say about this awkward AF episode of television 😂

Renee Pope-Munro

Awful and very strange episode but your reaction more than made up for it lol. The best bit was Giles singing... What a voice!

Donna

At least Spike's quips and Giles' singing somewhat redeems this episode, almost, very nearly almost. Anthony Stewart Head has released a number of albums as well, which are worth checking out.

Claire Eyles

I must admit I was expecting 4x19... I was momentarily legit annoyed when I remembered this episode existed haha.

Second_Strike

Ha ha! I like the *look* of this episode and Giles can sing to me forever, but you'll have to forgive me - I'm simply not going to rewatch this full episode. Congrats on getting through it!

Bean's friend

Haha "enjoy (if thats possible)" hmmm i wonder what liam thought about this episode

Inseriousity

Yay, new Buffy reaction! *checks episode title* I'm really looking forward to Ep 19. ;D

Claire Eyles

Possibly not the BEST episode ever.

UTU49

Wait, no, I now remember what happens with Tara--I'm no longer keen

Ritchie

I have rewatched this show 15+ times and I still couldn't, for the life of me, remember anything good to say about this episode. Well, maybe that Tara might be in it...? I couldn't tell you for sure since I blocked most of this episode out from my memory but if she makes an appearance then I'm keen

Ritchie
