Angel - 1x17 "Eternity" FULL REACTION

The most unbelievable thing about this episode is that Angel has champagne flutes. The first half of the episode falls flat for me. I do like the idea of dosing Angel with (basically) Molly/MDMA is enough to demonstrate to both us and the characters that Angel has to work really hard to suppress Angelus. It really works for the recovering alcoholic metaphor of Angel. This "Angelus" is different from the "Angelus" we saw in Buffy "Enemies." Here, he does seem to be intoxicated, although a little of OG Angelus appears when he picks at Wesley's insecurities, which is interesting.

Liam saw Bones before he saw Angel.

No matter how many times I see this episode, I don’t think I will ever buy the idea that Angel can be drugged into fake happiness and THINK he’s lost his soul. I just won’t go along with that. Anyway, while this is not a particular favorite of mine (not because of the nit pick), there’s nothing wrong with it, and I will always think of the same thing first: Tamara Gorski. This is not my favorite role of hers, but the fact that she’s in it at all makes it very cool. And she’s quite good. (As for what IS my favorite role of hers, it's Morrigan, and I probably can’t say I’m qualified to judge, but I found myself wondering whose Irish accent would be deemed better, hers vs. David Boreanaz. 😁 Only joking.)

Not a perfectly constructed episode, but I've always enjoyed it. Another great ep for Angel, and not just because Angelus. The fact that he's crying a little bit when starting to feel the affects of the drugs stabs my heart, because she's too busy exploiting him to really pay attention to how he's opening up. She also doesn't know how rare it is for him to actually be interested in someone. Her line about how they never have to be lonely again is kind of nauseating, because she doesn't understand how lonely he is. Poor sweet baby Angel. What I like most about Wesley in this ep is that he completely distinguishes between Angel and Angelus. I know it might be easier for him because he wasn't there to be traumatized by Angelus in season 2, but he shows more maturity and compassion for Angel than almost every character on Buffy, just by refusing to shame him for something he has no control over. Cordelia is getting there. It seemed to me that her pettiness was about Angel lying and not about turning into Angelus, so that's a good sign.

This episode really showcases David’s talent as an actor. When Angel ends, will you watch Bones, his next series?

Richard Lucas

It’s hard enough to be on one hit show, much less more than one.

Haven't watched the reaction just yet but I have a special place in my heart for this one. This is the first episode of Angel I ever remember watching - the first episode in the Buffyverse that I ever actually sat down and paid attention to - and I love it. Angel, without inhibitions (a soul, or in this case something that loosens those inhibitions, a lot like how drunk people are more likely to start fights), is Angelus.

Sorry for double post.. just wanted to add that I started watching when i remembered how this episode starts and I'm crying already 🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂

Every Thursday afternoon I start checking my emails and then checking here just in case my email got lost, literally every hour between Thursday and Sundays waiting for Liams Buffyverse reactions and when i actually go and do something for a couple of hours.. yeah Liam uploaded a reaction and I now feel I got to the party as everyone else is leaving 😭😐🤣🤣🤣🤣

As a Norwegian, I was happy to see you clock Ibsen so quickly. I like intertextuality. I guess Cordy and Rebecca work equally well as parallels to Nora. Do you think Rebecca leaves her manager (and maybe also her career) just like Nora does? Btw, have you ever invited friends to a performance and noticed that they didn't enjoy themselves? Acting must be hard that way.

This episode is sorta lukewarm for me. The second half of the episode is great, but the first half drags on more than any other episode this season, I'm including 'She' in that. I would rather watch a boring episode about inter-dimensional sex-slavery rather than a boring episode about the struggles of being rich and famous.

I think the funniest thing about all this "season and a half off the air" business is that, when all was said and done with the Buffyverse, David Boreanaz was one of the only ones (along with Aly Hannigan, and... that's about it) to appear consistently on TV for the years to follow.
