2019-07-20 21:46:29 +0000 UTCThe Buffy/Riley slay and sex scene always make me think of Faith, from Faith Hope and Trick, saying "Isn't it crazy how slayin' just always makes you hungry and horny?"

2019-07-19 13:09:25 +0000 UTCMaggie Walsh originally wasn't meant to be killed off in this episode, but the actress, Lindsay Crouse, was another one who asked to be let of her contract (for reasons unknown, so if anybody knows those reasons and they're not spoilery, chime in).

2019-07-19 09:23:50 +0000 UTCI pronounce Anya as Ah-nya and Tara as Tah-ra, only because that is how I would pronounce them naturally with my accent.

2019-07-19 09:07:16 +0000 UTCPronunciation Guide for people who pronounce things completely wrong: Tara: Pronounced as in "TEAR A piece of paper", not as in "TAR A roof". Anya: Pronounced as in "You got a giant spider ON YA", not as in "ANNE, YA got a giant spider on ya." Initiative: If you struggle with this one, just aim for "in a shit of"… or something within the ballpark. Angelus: Remember that his name is actually "Anne Jealous". Joss put up with mispronunciations of "Angelus" until ATS started and then he insisted on this correct pronunciation. Just remember: "ANNE JEALOUS, don't take the IN A SHIT OF… or TEAR A piece of paper… if you've got a giant spider ON YA." I'm just havin' fun. This does provide reasonable help with the names as pronounced by most of the characters, but don't take this too seriously. :P

2019-07-19 02:35:47 +0000 UTCWillow: “Everyone’s getting spanked but me.” Liam: “I volunteer as tribute” - Lol - you has such a cheeky little smile there Liam! :D “ Oh No!! She IS watching! I was JOKING! I was joking!” - I now right, ewww Maggie. “Aw gawd! That WOMAN!” - you are channeling Giles right now, Lol. Buffy gets to have a healthy positive sexual experience where the guy is still there the next morning - and the whole thing was being watched! Tara is a Cinnamon Bun - I thought you’d find her sweet & wholesome. Maggie was getting really interesting, and it definitely feels way too early to take her out, cut short. I think it’s interesting that Buffy is all to Riley - ‘you really don’t ask questions do you?’ But she herself seems all very happy with the Initiative and was not questioning things until Willow brought up with her how much they still don’t know. I think this is because Buffy was seeing the Initiative through the prism of liking and trusting Riley. I think this is a suitable point to say one of the main reasons I don’t like Riley much - I really don’t like people who join the military/government organisations, and then just blindly trust them, and don’t ask any questions - don’t even think to ask any questions. In general I’m not keen on people who don’t question things, and have black and white ways of thinking, instead of questioning and seeing the shades of grey - but especially people who naively trust in authority without questioning it. AND especially when that blind trust comes from a place of privilege in life - straight cis white middle class man, no disabilities, seems utterly like he was a popular jock type in school - that kinda person just makes me go ‘eww’. I relate much more to outsiders. He’s the type of person that the world is made to work for, with no disadvantages or oppressions that hold him back in life. Even Xander - who I have major issues with his slut shaming in earlier seasons and his ‘nice guy I’m just waiting to get into Buffy’s pants’ - and yet I can still like him and empathise with him, cos he’s an unpopular socially awkward outsider, who’s from a low income/working class family that seems to be pretty abusive with alcoholism problems. [On which - I like Xander in this episode, and in season 4 in general mostly - he is very questioning of the Initiative in this episode and what their plans and motivations are.] I always related to the Scoobies cos they are all outsiders and geeks. Riley doesn’t fit that pattern at all. And his military way of thinking and doing things doesn’t gel with theirs either. So Buffy having a nice healthy relationship at the moment is nice, but I cannot relate to Riley in any way, dislike his blind unquestioning loyalty, and yeah, I’m just not ‘into’ him. People say he’s ‘nice’ I just think he’s a typical privileged unthinking person. And yeah, I do find him a bit bland and boring too, a bit ‘whitebread’. But that by itself wouldn’t be so bad. Plus, he admires Buffy as the Slayer in some ways. While still not really getting it and making comments that show he thinks he can ‘take her out’ or match her eventually - because she’s a woman of course. He makes misogynistic comments about women needing protecting by strong men back in Harsh Light of Day. ugh. He’s seems a bit uncomfortable and thrown by a woman being way stronger than him. No shade on you though Liam for liking him. I do think his heart is in the right place - like he ‘thinks’ he’s doing good and protecting people with the Initiative for example. I explain myself cos a lot of people don’t like Riley - mostly for similar reasons to mine above, but the reasons are not spoken about much, and the people who do like him get annoyed with us and speak for us and say it’s just cos he’s not Angel !!! LOL ! i.e, are all Bangel shippers - LOL !!! You might remember that I’m really not into Bangel. It’s mostly only a teenage minority that just had an issue with Buffy moving on from Angel, and come on it’s 18 years on! - those people have moved on, and yet there’s still a lot of fans who don’t like Riley - obviously there are real reasons, and people being patronising about it annoy me. Um, ok - didn’t think I’d write so much on that. But I just had someone on youtube insisting I MUST like Riley cos he’s a ‘nice’ guy. Rant over , Lol. You have a lot of interesting questions about where things might go - I’m looking forward to your reactions to more season 4!

2019-07-19 01:13:12 +0000 UTCLiam, I’m curious what your single favorite episode of any TV show is? I know that’s not an easy question. It’s sometime in the future, but I can definitely say that a future episode of Buffy is my favorite TV episode of all time, and I think it might become yours too (though of course it might not.)

2019-07-18 23:18:42 +0000 UTCI at first thought it was a romantic jealousness of Buffy on Walsh’s part too, but having seen the Angel episode so recently now, I think Walsh may be more like Phantom Dennis’ mom.

2019-07-18 23:15:15 +0000 UTCI haven't finished watching yet but had to come comment that your "I volunteer as tribute" line, made me spit soda. 😳😝🤣🤣 You are adorable Liam. Hahaha Edit: Finished now. Great reaction as always! 🥰👍

2019-07-18 22:28:38 +0000 UTCI love that you've noticed Willow's protectiveness about her magic. Ever since the beginning, and even though she likes to brag about her progress, she does do a lot of in secret. As for the Buffy/Riley and Willow/Tara parallels... Tara represent a kind of antithesis to the Initiative much in the same way that Ethan did in the last episode. When Buffy and Willow come home to both their still-made beds, Buffy has been spending time with a soldier from a secret organisation, while Willow has been with a witch. Later, Tara's stone is used to foil the Initiative's plan.

2019-07-18 21:50:06 +0000 UTCEnglish gal here and you’re pronouncing everything the same as I do, there’s nothing wrong with it haha I love your reactions and am very excited for others to come 😊 x

2019-07-18 21:43:14 +0000 UTCWalsh and Forrest both seemed like a hostile kind of jealous of Buffy this ep. Ofc they're both invested in this rigid homogeneous institution they're a part of, and Buffy threatens that by being independent and inquisitive. But even if you take out the scene where Walsh watches Buffy and Riley have sex, she seems almost romantically obsessed with Riley. Forrest likewise. Idk, there are several ways to read it, one of them being that it's more of a motherly and brotherly thing, but they both have zero chill about it whatever it is. Graham is cool at least.

2019-07-18 21:42:57 +0000 UTCGreat reaction! I couldn't believe it when you joked about Walsh watching them and she actually was lol. As for Adam, I think the word "interesting" is understandable as I'm still not really sure how I feel about it but I'm looking forward to hear more of your thoughts on this as we go on

2019-07-18 21:42:14 +0000 UTCBut i have to add that I love the way Americans say my name and really don't like the way English people say it 🤣🤣
2019-07-18 21:35:23 +0000 UTCI just think it's a UK pronunciation vs a US pronunciation thing with the names, I'm from the UK and I pronounce the names the same as Liam as does Giles xx
2019-07-18 21:33:41 +0000 UTCBloody hell 😂
2019-07-18 21:27:12 +0000 UTCIf people were correcting you on your pronunciation of Anya’s name...I expect there are going to be some comments about how you’re saying Tara’s lol
