2019-08-26 02:19:23 +0000 UTCSpike is actually British, but James isn't. But as Liam mentioned, we have different regional ways of pronouncing the A in things here anyways. So both would be used over here - except that with a particular person's name there's usually one correct way of course.

2019-07-18 21:36:54 +0000 UTCI fucking love this episode!! Great reaction Liam - perfect reaction face to reveal of Giles as a Fyarl demon. Giles as a Fyarl demon is just brilliant, I love the demon design. I love the interactions between Giles and Ethan, their history and IMHO ( and many others peeps) the slashy subtext. I also fucking adore the Giles and Spike interaction in this episode. The two of them driving around in Giles' tiny Citreon is just perfection :) I watched this in the early hours of the morning last night after a long, exhausting, painful and very stressful journey. But I just had to watch this anyway when I got in, cos I'd been away for 5 days with no way to watch this!!

2019-07-17 13:42:43 +0000 UTCI think Giles pronounces Anya the way you do, so it very well might be an accent thing. Idk about Spike, but he's not actually British so that's less telling.

2019-07-13 11:56:24 +0000 UTCSomething in this episode jumped right out at me, and you didn’t comment on it at the end. I won’t mention what specifically, as I don’t think it’s spoilery but just in case, but it really did jump out at me and I thought you noted it too. Great reaction as always!

2019-07-13 03:13:28 +0000 UTCI had never thought about Kendra and Maggie but they would have worked so well together. And shy Kendra surrounded by all those guys! I want to see this now.

2019-07-13 03:09:51 +0000 UTC"You were mythtaken" is the stupidest and yet also one of the funniest little jokes on the show. I can't help but crack up every time. :)

2019-07-13 00:44:38 +0000 UTCI don't think Spike sees any of the other characters in this episode... which is a fun change up. (Or am I forgetting something?)

2019-07-12 20:58:45 +0000 UTCOne of my favorite episodes of this season. Demon Giles and Spike team up is just the best xD

2019-07-12 20:02:49 +0000 UTCYes, the gender flip is really interesting, especially when you put Ethan into the mix. I think GIles represents a form of masculinity, but it is one more connected with American transcendentalism (individualism, self-efficiency), which is very different from the discipline and conformity of the big-jawed Initiative dude-bro squad run by Walsh. Conversely, Walsh is like a tyrannical mother.

2019-07-12 19:19:00 +0000 UTCLOL Is it weird that it was throwing me off that he kept saying "three one four" instead of "three fourteen."

2019-07-12 17:49:57 +0000 UTCHello there, by any chance do we have another Giles/Ethan shipper in our midst? :D Everything you said is exactly why I love the idea of Giles and Ethan together, and the pairing provides so many possibilities (tales of their youth, redemption arcs, etc).

2019-07-12 17:19:29 +0000 UTCI really love Giles and Ethan. Ethan seems so desperate to get "Ripper's" attention. And considering that they used to perform rites where one of them would be possessed by the demon Eyghon and then have sex with everyone, it seems significant that Ethan comes back to now turn Giles into a demon. Sorcerer works as a euphemism for queer. Demons and beasts (vampires and werewolves) have been used as metaphors for rampant male sexuality. Faith makes that connection explicit in her talk to Buffy in "B and the B." I really like the dichotomy between the modern and efficient Initiative and these "two old mystics" and "has-beens." This episode is really crucial for defining the tensions that drive the season.

2019-07-12 16:13:59 +0000 UTCDemon Giles making Spike stop the (ridiculously tiny) car so that he can chase Maggie Walsh down the street is classic. His "waving arms above the head and growling" routine is perfect! Is it weird that I see James P. "Sully" Sullivan doing a split screen with Giles as they do the "scary monster" run down the street?

2019-07-12 15:47:53 +0000 UTCLove this one! It's great that we get to focus on Giles for a change and he was brilliant in it. I never get tired of that scene where he chases Professor Walsh down the street. It's hilarious. Also I loved seeing Giles and Spike work together. Those two have great chemistry

2019-07-12 15:39:27 +0000 UTCIn addition to Giles being 'lost' in life and his becoming a demon in the episode, the title phrase can also refer to his attitude about slayers. A year after losing his position as Watcher, he's talking about letting a slayer find her own way and not being pushed towards someone elses goals. Exactly the opposite of everything the Watcher's Council (and early season Giles) thought was best. Maggie Walsh was basically describing the Council's way of doing things and how she thought someone like Buffy should be controlled. I'm sure she would have loved Kendra and the majority of previous slayers.

2019-07-12 15:38:56 +0000 UTCDefinitely in this episode we start to see more of the science vs magic aspect, but also the masculine (science) vs the feminine (magic), and I've always found it interesting that in this context Giles represents the feminine aspect through magic & Maggie Walsh the masculine aspect through science.

2019-07-12 13:13:41 +0000 UTCWhen you made your first stake pun in Welcome to the Hellmouth I thought of Buffy’s mythstaken joke and decided you were going to love this show.
