IMPORTANT

Next week is the final decision on the implementation of Article 13. There's a very real possibility that when this goes through I won't be able to make reaction videos anymore. If you haven't already, please sign the petition and help #SaveYourInternet

I did. It asked for a state and ZIP Code so…

Can residents of North America sign the petition?

I signed and donated, and here's the note I added with my signature: "Reactors and remixers introduce their audiences to new content, thereby increasing the viewership of both currently-airing and older/canceled TV shows. I only started watching Black Sails, Westworld, Broadchurch, Peaky Blinders, Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow and The Good Place because Youtube reactors I'm subscribed to were reacting to them, and since our tastes have a lot of overlap, I thought I'd give those shows a chance. Now I tune in every week, I've introduced friends and family to those shows, and I'm most likely going to be buying the dvds. All of this because reaction videos have been a growing trend in the last few years. Allowing reactors to make a small profit from their videos seems like a fair trade for the fact that they are essentially providing long-form advertising for the shows they watch and helping to grow the fan base of those same shows. Copyright holders may not realize how much Youtube reaction channels help to spread awareness, of both older shows (namely Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly and Angel the Series) and shows still in production."

It's nuts... they can't put the brakes on the way the culture has changed around the tech. They need a better solution--micro-rights, maybe, where a small fee allows use? (As in *actually* small, not "small compared to what a major film corporation would pay.") Then remixers/reactors/creators could have unchallenged use *and* the creator would get paid. Hmm.

LOL So true... we just had to deal with the net neutrality stuff going the wrong way... which compared to this, seems like nothing.

Oh... Good luck! I don't want to lose watching your reactions for Once Upon a Time. It would be so tragic.

This whole proposal seems ridiculous and impossible to implement the way they'd like. Making a strict, nun-nuanced policy about copyright based on topics related to previously created content would effectively limit people to only mentioning topics no one has gotten paid for yet. Reviews, in general, would be thing of the past. Someone that wants to go into a detailed explanation as to why they dislike Ross from Friends, would be instantly blocked because the Friends producers aren't making money from the views. It's... not realistic, and even if the proposal goes through, I can't imagine it lasting long before the major corporations realize they're actually losing far more money by removing mentions of their products and limiting their own exposure. It's not as if by banning content producers from engaging with their product that they'd somehow make money. It just doesn't make any sense. Signed btw

Done! Of course input from an American might be viewed as a negative at this point in time.

Lostmyshoe22

I think anyone can yeah 😊

Can I sign it as an American.
