Thoughts on Buffy 2x16

Sometimes I get annoyed at myself in my post-reaction discussions for not feeling like I did the episode justice in my analysis. I sometimes feel like I can dig deeper but don't quite get there and that's the case with this episode. The complexities of the plot and Xander as a character were really impressive to me so I hope I get that across.

I mean, I do talk about it for 16 minutes but still 😂

What Bellatronics said. For a first viewing, very insightful and articulate. If you want to dig deeper, you could check out what some others have said. The episode guides by The Passion of the Nerd are good (and he's careful not to give future-episode plot spoilers, even though some of his insights are fueled by the fact that he has seen the entire series more than once), or you could check out Mark Fields' ebook "Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Myth, Metaphor & Morality," which is an expansion/revision on reaction blog posts written during the original run of the series. He too discusses episode by episode while noting recurring and overarching themes, and, bonus, he includes quick info on pop culture references that were current during the airing of the series but may be before your time (or too American for you). If nothing else, one or the other may be helpful as a quick refresher if you have a long gap between episodes. After you finish season 2, you may want to contact Ian of The Passion of the Nerd to do a joint episode rewatch--perhaps this episode. Your in-the-moment reactions remind me of my reactions to my first watching of the series (which began shortly after the last episode aired). He's done that with a couple of other reactors recently, and it can be a nice way to cross-fertilize your fan-bases.

Well, I think you get pretty insightful for a first view around and immediate thoughts. There often is a lot packed in an episode, like you mention with this one, a lot of complexity and layers. And then interpreting it through a current perspective and thinking about what were the intentions of the writers then. Often you need to ruminate on things a bit to pick up on all the complexities/layers analytical thoughts. Often after many viewings! Many fans say that they pick up on or see something new nearly every time that they watch an episode. And we always learn form others perspective and can't see everything just by ourselves. So don't be hard on yourself! I think you are doing pretty great.

Awesome. I love your reactions. Is it being uploaded today?

Awesome... I love that it's so important to you to articulate your thoughts to us. It shows us how invested you are, and how willing you are to immerse yourself in the stories. Definitely makes following your journey all the more fun. And yea.. this episode definitely has a lot to discuss. Xander is quite divisive, but I relate, for better or worse.
