like the eagles at the end of LOTR or Captain Marvel saving the day at the end of some Avenger movies. Theres many levels to why this epi was named that and one obvious one was the light at the end but there is more but its kind of spoiler territory so I wont say it

Have you ever seen a one-armed man punching at nothing but the breeze? If you've ever seen a one-armed man then you've seen me Then you've seen me I come and stand at every door Then you've seen me I always leave with less than I had before Then you've seen me Bet I can make you smile when the blood, it hits the floor Tell me, friend, can you ask for anything more? Tell me can you ask for anything more? Maybe one of my favourite episodes of the whole show? A top twenty, maybe just scooching into being a top ten depending on my mood. Of course, I love Locke so I like when we spend time with him. He certainly seems to have some communion with the island, but it does raise questions: is the island actually speaking to Locke? If it is, is it doing so consciously? Is Locke merely psychic, or does he have a touch of schizophrenia like his mother? But then how would he know about Teresa? Is everything destiny, or coincidence? Could it be both? Impossible to say. It’s certainly freaky to see Locke so lost, compared to how in-control and certain he’s been up until now. We spend almost the whole episode with Locke and Boone, and we find out a fair bit about both of them. Boone’s history with Teresa sounds traumatic as hell; a neglected child leading to accidental death? Sounds a little like Locke, actually. Neglected child, and then accidental death. And in many ways, Locke does feel like a big kid. A boy scout who wants to play in the wilderness, who wants his Dad to love him so bad he won’t see the warning signs. And there were indeed warning signs. I think we’re meant to see it coming, from the moment Locke describes the “trap” game, only to be caught in one himself. Ironic that as much as Locke looks for signs, he ignores the signs that he doesn’t like. His mother appearing out of nowhere? His father instantly starting to bond with him? The “accidental” revelation of dialysis? He should have seen all of this coming, but I bet Locke grew up telling himself stories about how great his parents were, how much they loved him, made him legitimate reasons why they abandoned him. Instead, it’s a one-night stand between an ill woman and a self-interested sociopath. Locke grew up in numerous foster homes, he mentions brothers and sisters from time to time but he seems isolated in his adult life. I think his life is completely solitary, with little love, and that FUCKER Anthony Cooper took advantage of that. Kevin Tighe is great in the role, with that gravelly voice and twisted grin of his. He reminds me a little of Ray Wise or Jack Nicholson, where he has these very flexible features which are constructed in an oddly sinister way. And I just saw Kevin Tighe in One Battle After Another, so hey, Oscar connection. It’s impossible not to feel for Locke, but he was still reckless with Boone’s life and was single-minded. He also wants to keep believing he’s special, which I assume is why he didn’t decide to enlist the help of someone highly intelligent like Sayid to help with the Hatch. If Boone hadn’t happened to be with him when it was found, I don’t think Locke would have told anyone about it. I think he would have kept it to himself. Sleeping with a prostitute would have been a bigger deal back in 2004, although even today I’d say it’s more Gen Z who are a touch more relaxed about it. I don’t think it matters, but it works as part of Jack’s little petty vengeance arc on Sawyer for being so shitty so many times. So often, Jack is portrayed as this great hero so I enjoy when he indulges in his bitchy side. It was fun to humiliate Sawyer, but Jack still helped him all the way through and things don’t seem to be as tense between them anymore. Sometimes, two people who don’t like each other just need to mess with each other a little to understand one another better. Or maybe Jack was just having fun. Brilliant reaction! And oof, did you ever see yourself enjoying Sawyer when you first started the show? Because we were all on the same boat. Uh, plane.

I get why people conflate the immaculate conception with the virgin birth, Christian mythology gets pretty weird, but Mary was thought to be immaculately conceived as one way to shield her from sin so she could be a incorruptible vessel for divinity. People fought actual wars over whether this was right.

The Testimony of Mushroom

oh you already noticed it in the next episode, my bad. Sorry.

It’s a longer one than usual. There’s actually 7 episodes of this season left.

I think you have the number of episodes wrong, there are 25 episodes in the first season. I know, thats unimaginable compared to todays standards but yeah 25! Not 22 as you seem to think.

Deus ex machina means "god from the machine" from ancient Greek theater when actors playing gods would be brought on stage by actual machines. It's become a trope for when seemingly impossible to solve plot contrivances would be suddenly fixed at the end of the story by something sudden and improbable.

One of my favorite episodes of the show!
