So true, jim henson always avoided giving the muppets to disney because he wanted to keep the tone and humor more for everyone instead of just kids, i enjoy the later muppets but they never hit the same as the 70s 80s shows and movies

It was the first Muppet film made after the passing of Jim Henson and directed by his son, and for me this marked the beginning of the end of the classic Muppet style. The films that followed became increasingly more targeted for a younger audience, when before, the comedic tone was very different, playing off the personas of the countless professional comedians with whom they appeared. I'm happy every generation is still able to get their Muppet fix, but I miss the the rhythm of the TV show and the first 3-4 movies from the 70s through the early 90s. Thank you so much for this watch-along. I'm sure I'll see it more than once. It made me smile when you said you recognized Fozzie Bear's voice, even though you didn't recognize the face. Frank Oz was Jim Henson's founding partner/developer in the Muppets. He voiced Fozzie, Miss Piggy, Yoda, Animal, Cookie Monster, Bert, Sam Eagle, and Grover, among others.

2025-12-24 02:49:18 +0000 UTCI have a Huge amount of respect for The Muppets' Christmas Carol because they use the original book as dialogue, and that book is just so wonderful and poetic. Also, they don't shy away from the darker parts, because it's real, and then you get this wonderful payoff at the end. But honestly, my favorite will always be A Carol Christmas with Tori Spelling. I love it because it's set in a TV studio and the ending is really satisfying.

My favorite song from this film is 'It Feels Like Christmas' (the song sung by The Ghost of Christmas Present. Michael Caine has stated that he agreed to take the role if he could act as seriously as he would if he was with the Royal Shakespeare Company and not the Muppets; and it works. Hopefully you get a chance to check out the book. A lot of the lines in the film are taken straight from the original source material. Also there was a song cut from the film, because it was deemed too sad for the film. I think the fact that you didnt realize that Scrooge wouldn't be a muppet and that the whole film was a mix of live action and puppetry rather than animation, makes the reaction even more enjoyable.
