Scanners, Videodrome, A History of Violence, Eastern Promises. These are all 10/10 Cronenberg films in my book, and definitely worth the watch. I enjoy The Fly, but I think his other movies showcase his talents in a grander way. The Fly is more or less a tragic love story, whereas his other films I think have deeper messages. Videodrome and it's themes are very much prescient today.

Your guess about the quote “Be afraid, be very afraid” was correct - it did originate in this film. And has been reused in various pop culture references since

I love that you had no idea where this movie was going lol. Such a great reaction. And the effects hold up SO WELL, David Cronenberg's practical effects are always incredible. And yes The Substance director was heavily influenced by Cronenberg!

Goldblum was SO good in this! It was said by siomeone that if this film had been called “Out of Africa” ( a big Meryl Streep movie of the same year ) he’d have won the Oscar for it.
The 50s movie is not as graphic but for it’s time was very bizarre and more creepy and tragic in some ways. It starred Vincent Price (not as the scientist). I suggest you watch it.

Ah, what better film to whet your appetite for a delicious Thanksgiving feast than...one of the most gruesome body horror movies of the 1980's? 🙃
And HAPPY TURKEY DAY, ALL!
