Singing "it's not easy being green" to the tune of Everybody Hurts in response to Lorne's plight is just ๐Ÿ˜˜๐ŸคŒ

Lorne is the only genuine idealist in the group. The word "caritas" is generally translated as "charity," but it's meant to express the highest form of love.

The "And you're already two soldiers down" is one of the coldest lines in this show... It just makes you realize WRH is killing our team slowly...

Face blindness CONQUERED! WOO! Clap! I meant to say this on a previous episode, but it slipped my mind: I think one reason Lorne seems even more depressed and ineffectual than the rest of the team is that he was never somebody who changed (or fought) people (or demons). He was a GUIDE for them. Lorne ran Caritas as an open bar and sanctuary, and the people he read were people who WANTED to be read. They sought him out so he could help them on their path. He wasn't an investigator who dug up their secrets or forced truth onto people who didn't want to hear it. His ability to read people can also function as a lie detector or morality scale, but as we've seen it can be tricked and fooled through a variety of tricks and Lorne's got no real talent at figuring that out. Because that's not what his powers are FOR, and it's not what he used to do (or WANTS to do). Lorne's never wanted to fight evil. He never wanted to "fight" ANYBODY. He always wanted to help people, and that even included evil people in that mix. And I'm not saying he's secretly evil (heck no, he's definitely a Good Guy), but I'm saying that this is not His Path in a unique way different from the way this is not any of their paths. One correction on your theory: The Senior Partners didn't specifically want Gunn to sign that page and free Illyria from customs, they just wanted him to sign SOMETHING. Because any deal he made would bring him over the line. It could have been anything. It's just fate (or "fate") that it was Illyria and caused Fred's death.

Face blindness cured?

Martin Gardner

It must have been fun for Amy Acker to switch from Fred to Illyria (also makeup and costuming probably meant she had to start shooting days a lot earlier).

The Testimony of Mushroom

I think it's funny that the initial premise for Buffy was high school is hell. And now we see the suburbs are hell too.

Captain Hammer

The world without shrimp and world with nothing but shrimp were referenced in Buffy 4x17 and 5x11

๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ Hi Jayne! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ This season is pretty much non-stop bangers, it's one of the reasons it's so rewatchable for me. Also, I'm a masochist and I love having my heart ripped out, pardon the pun lol. I love the conversation with Lindsay at the end. It's been clear before now, but this season really solidifies the difference between Angel and Buffy as shows in my opinion. As dark as Buffy got sometimes, it was ultimately optimistic. Angel has a much darker and more cynical view on the world. Buffy is a story about empowerment and hope, while Angel is a story about atonement, ambiguity, and existential struggle. In Buffy, evil is often externalised into tough but defeatable threats, and the world is seen as dark but worthwhile and saveable, but in Angel evil is portrayed as systemic and institutional; you can fight, but evil is embedded. It can be fought, but never truly defeated - the point is to try regardless. As Angel said to Kate: "If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do". The universe is indifferent and uncaring, but that's no reason to give in to apathy. It's this fight, one without guarantees of success, that's so central to being a hero. It's the core message of the show, that I've carried with me since I first watched it as a kid. Unfortunately, it was during the filming of this episode that the cast and crew were informed about the show's cancellation by the network ๐Ÿ˜• Joss wanted the WB to give Angel an early renewal for Season 6, so one of the producers made the hasty, reckless, and downright stupid decision to cancel it outright. It's no wonder the WB went under and had to merge with UPN a few years later to form the CW network. I'll truly never forgive them for cancelling this show ๐Ÿ’” I love how much you loved this episode lol - I've never thought of it as one of my favourites, but it is really good! A great mix of fun, spookiness, existential dread and philosophy with an ancient God. What more could you ask for?! I probably sound like a broken record, but I can't wait for the next one! God, this season's so good โ™ฅ๏ธ

Jaaayne! The man they call Jaaayne!

Dan Hart

Some changes to the title sequence for Amy Acker. Also, Mercedes McNab (Harmony) who finally is getting a credit spot, over 7 years after appearing in the first Buffy episode. Yeah that is Jayne from Firefly.

James Smith

Not only do the credits include Amy Acker's new character but Harmony was added as well! Did you notice that as well?
