Angel: 5x15 Full Reaction

Angel: 5x15 Full Reaction

Once you know she’s dead dead it’s horrific. It’s not so bad in the moment cause you still have hope

Desmond Goodworth

I think this episode is much more emotionally impactful on rewatch.

David Newsome

The decision not to save Fred has always bothered me, not only because of the character dying, but because that choice is also setting an Old one loose into the world, a being that will almost certainly kill many, many more people than drawing it back to the well ever would. They fought tooth and nail to prevent Jasmine from being born, and now Angel decides; "nah, let's just let this other, definitely evil being of the same power level as Jasmine enter the world again". I mean, really?

The episode title is taken from a song, No Place Like London, in the musical Sweeney Todd: "There's a hole in the world like a great black pit And the vermin of the world inhabit it And its morals aren't worth what a pig can spit And it goes by the name of London" Speaking of lyrics, You Are My Sunshine is actually a terribly sad song: "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are gray. You'll never know, dear, how much I love you. Please don't take my sunshine away The other night, dear, as I lay sleeping. I dreamed I held you in my arms. When I awoke, dear, I was mistaken. So I bowed my head and I cried" Jonathan Woodward appeared in 3 Joss Whedon shows, as Webs the psychology student vampire in BtVS season 7 Conversations With Dead People, as Tracey in Firefly's The Message, and here as Knox. In all 3 he has a special relationship with a coffin. The book Wes is reading to Fred is A Little Princess (1905) by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The Old Ones are in a cave, so at first that made me think that the cavemen win. But Fred lived in a cave, too, when she was in Pylea. So who would count as the caveman?

Interesting to know - Joss Whedon said the character was Drogyn was written with the trait of not being able to lie to ensure they and the audience 100% trusted him when he told Angel and Spike about the way Illayria could only be extracted our Fred at the expense of the world. The original way Joss planned was to have Rupert Giles guest star, who obviously everyone already trusts and ultimately say the same thing. Just scheduling conflicts for Anthony Head meant this wasn’t going to be possible.

Martin Gardner

It was originally going to be Rupert Giles as the Keeper of the Well, because they thought the character needed to be somebody that we (the audience) would trust when he presented the choice. If it was some random, we would all say "Why are you believing this guy? He could be lying!" But the cost to fly Anthony Stewart Head out from England for a glorified cameo was judged too expensive, so they created Drogyn instead and made it that he Can't Lie. I'm on the Astronaut side of the debate: On the "physical" aspect (Which is all that most people think about when it comes to "Who would win in a fight?"), many astronauts were soldiers before they were astronauts and they go through extensive physical training and conditioning before they ever get to space. On the intellectual side (Which is possibly an even greater balance than physicality), they're uniformly BRILLIANT. If it comes to a fight, it's the astronauts hands-down. Lindsey is out-of-play right now, the characters are talking about tracing his steps before they knew he was back in "You're Welcome". Seeing if they can learn more about what he was planning back then. They don't think he's still doing things now, since they think the Seior Partners have him locked up. They only think he may be involved at the beginning because it's psosible he started this before he was caught.

The crazy thing is back in the beginning of the season angel had all the wrh employees sing for lorne , and while fred and knox were talking knox even offered to go do it right now ,but fred told him its okay he didnt have to.

Rey R

you were meant to infer that angel elected not to save Fred. When Spike ponders the hole and says "It seems like we ought to have known" he is saying this because he knows they didn't succeed.

Jason Harrelson

"There's a hole in the world; Feels like we ought to have known" the theme that the world is not the way it should be, hits harder now.

James Smith

Can’t wait to see your reaction to the rest of the season

Sam Alexander

Fred was singing that’s the reason Lauren was able to read her so quickly
