Buffy the Vampire Slayer: 7x22 Full Reaction

What are we gonna do now?

borednow

Have been here for the entire journey of you watching BTVS/Angel and have never left a comment but I just think your reactions always capture just how moving and special this show is. You saw all the important details and messages it offers from the very beginning. I’m so excited to see your reaction to the last season of Angel because it’s so so good.

Thalia

I remember back when it was first airing, Joss leaked that "not everyone would survive the finale." I remember being very tense thinking that all of that plot-armor was now stripped away and that every time someone looked to be in danger that this could be it. So Buffy falling in the middle for the fight, for instance, was a real scare.

Rod B

Such a good ending! Definitely in my top two series finales in the entire Buffyverse.

Arlo Murphy

Another really good interview is from BTVS: 20 year later cast reunion. 45 minutes of pure nostalgia and happiness. Everyone is in it, we won’t ever have something like this again. It’s actually bittersweet now thinking about it. 🥺 https://youtu.be/ozmNvsMMvRA?si=EQ8gBBFNV9lSWjWW

Mayra Martinez

Now that Buffy is over you can watch some interviews with SMG about the new slayer! I don’t want to spoil anything so if someone can watch this ET interview from a day ago and see if Cass can watch it!? SMG talks a little about the show but she also mentions other projects she’s working on which may or may not be something Cass may watch later or has already seen. . . . . . Major spoilers in video title for anyone watching tv/movies. Everyone be warned as soon as you click on the link 👇 https://youtu.be/Mpbf7udtYTc?si=MHKBc2K8BFWhg2WY

Mayra Martinez

You said it all very well at the end there. Definitely the best most epic series finale of any show I have ever watched hands down. This show unexpectedly hits you where you live every time.

Morgan Williams

I don't think Robin was faking, and then surprise. I think he was passing out for a sec and then comin back to from the physical trauma, and realized he was still there and was all like surprise cuz like yea I'm still here and what better moment to say it.

Morgan Williams

I'll still be around for Angel but I think maybe you should also react to Season 5 of Angel on Youtube, you'll definitely keep many of your Buffy only fans happy!

Steveo

thank you so much for reacting to our favorite show! this has been absolutely amazing <3 excited for the revival reactions!!

Billy Kearney

Beautiful reaction Cass! I’ve been pretty quiet here but I have to say that I loved your Buffy reactions, you really get the show in my opinion, so thank you for inviting us on your Buffy journey. I am looking forward to your slant on Angel season 5 and Firefly too. As for Buffy now that you’ve seen the show in its entirety you should check out the non fiction book Why Buffy Matters, it really hones in on that exact question and why it’s still going strong after 20+ years off the air.

Joshua Taylor

The scene in the hallway is probably one of my favorites. Buffy, Giles, Xander, and Willow standing alone with each other just as the beginning of the show. Completed with the "the earth is doomed" callback.

Douglas Robertson

I'm so excited for the Buffy episode ranking!

anna

Girl don't worry we're all crying with you

anna

I can't believe this journey is over... I've been watching your Buffy videos for a year and I loved your reactions and insights to every episode! Honestly, I love how they ended the show. Buffy's smile at the end when she realizes she's not the only one anymore says everything... The entire series all she wanted was not to be alone, to be normal, like all the other girls. Now she may not be like all the others, but she's just one of many, she's not alone.

anna

Is this a joke? It was clearly footwear?

Dee Aitch

I can't Ctrl-F so I'll possibly repeat other things: Until the continuation series ruins it, the final words of Buffy were "I love you [...] Spike." Andrew, the Storyteller, told a great story to Xander as Anya didn't really save Andrew, but his gift to Xander was the story that she did.

Dee Aitch

For the longest time i thought when spike was dreaming he was saying "I'm drowning in Footwear" not "I'm drowning in Cool Whip" I learned something new about my beloved show today much love.

CMFThRillEr

Life caught up with me a little bit, so I had to binge watch the last seven or so reactions to get to this one. I will confess that season seven left me a little cold even when I first watched however, it is always a pleasure to watch your reactions to tv, movies, and music. Everything is much appreciated, I look forward to the new channel and I suspect that we will be fitting you with a brown coat... Thank you.

Michael Labs

I feel so lucky to have found your YT channel right when you started watching Buffy. You're the only BtVS reactor I've followed from start to finish and it's been 2+ wonderful years! I so appreciated this finale for getting the small things right along with the big ones. Of course Buffy's big plan was brilliant and resonant, and Spike's sacrifice a fitting end. But they also remembered to include the small scene where Buffy proposes her scheme, Giles says it's 'bloody brilliant,' then asks if she wants his opinion. When Buffy responds 'really do,' we know the breach between them is healed, and they have a mutual respect for each other now that's even better than what they had before. Since the Buffy/Giles relationship was always my favorite one on the show, it made me feel worlds better. And that last moment before the battle when we realize it's just the core 4 left together is just ... perfect.

omg thank you for this comment!!!💜

Hi Cassie! I’m one of those silent watchers. I don’t comment or anything, but I just wanted to tell you how much I’ve enjoyed being on this journey with you for the past couple of years. Buffy means so much to me. I’ve been watching Buffy since I was a little girl so, watching with you has been so so fun because it was like I was watching it all for the first time with you! I have honestly grown to respect and admire you. I love your content, not just Buffy but I also listen to your podcast. Thank you so much for this! You are now one of us Buffy nerds so now is the time to do what we all do when we reach the end of Buffy! We watch it all over again! ❤️❤️❤️

Natalie Padilla

RIP Anya RIP Spike Great reaction to a strong finale! As someone who was not a fan of Buffy S6, I felt that Buffy S7 was good and in many ways got the show back on track. However, I do think that the season got stretched a bit thin trying to be too many things at once (trying to reference all the previous seasons, wrapping up lots of character arcs, taking characters in new directions one last time, reconnect with its spinoff Angel, as well as being the biggest finale against the Biggest Bad, etc) I started watching your Buffy reactions in July 2023 when you were covering Buffy S2. I enjoy your content and the sense community on youtube, Patreon, Discord and Twitch. I am really glad that the youtube algorithm put that video in front of me. I am looking forward to Angel S5 and whatever comes next on Cass Reacts.

James Smith

What a journey! I found you early on when you first started Buffy so it’s been fun getting to rewatch it with you. I remember in ‘97 hearing about this new mid season show on The WB and I checked it out. I was a freshman in high school and I was hooked immediately. Everyone getting to experience it now can binge but we had to wait every week and then deal with holiday breaks and summer. Such a different time now. I love this show. It’s my favorite. I can rewatch anytime and it’s like my comfort show. I’m so glad the younger generation is watching this and loving it over 20 years later. It’s so amazing to see other people loving it as much as I did. Looking forward to Angel’s final season to finish off the Buffyverse…for now. Thank you for all your reactions, your commentary, your wisdom, your laughs, your tears and everything else in between during this show. 💜

Whitney Mercer

Not me sitting here in tears too feeling like I’m saying goodbye. I’ve been on this journey with you since day one and this was overwhelmingly emotional. There are so many reasons I could give for why you have been my favourite Buffy reactor from your insights to your thought processes but really it’s just for you being you! Thank you so much for the last couple of years, what a ride and I am so happy that it is your favourite show now too. And I will be sat for your future content and can’t wait to finish Angel and eventually watch the reboot with you. This has been my comfort show for the last two decades and I loved experiencing it from your perspective, sitting watching with you almost every week has been my happy place. Slay strong, chosen one. ❤️

Jonny

I worry the new show will try and walk back all the other Slayers being activated.

Dusty Hill

It’s been a great journey glad you enjoyed the show. It’s been a nostalgia run for me. I strongly recommend you don’t look into the reboot though until you’ve seen the final season of Angel. A lot of the information I’ve seen pulls up spoilers for that too.

Martin Gardner

I'm very glad that I stumbled onto your YT channel and got to have the pleasure of watching your BTVS reactions. Sometimes series finales are a huge disappointment (looking at you, Seinfeld) but this one hit it out of the ballpark. Also, I really like the clever callback to episode 2x3, when Spike made his first appearance on the show by knocking down a Sunnydale sign, and then he's responsible for knocking down a Sunnydale sign in his final appearance on the show. To finish on a lighter note, here's a clip of some bloopers with SMG and the legendary Robin Williams from a 2013 sitcom called "The Crazy Ones": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsrOv_REyMI

Spike had a great story arc going from a villain to sacrificing himself to save the world

Michael Matthews

The first thing I want to say is, I've watched quite a few Buffy reactors. I've been watching reactions to the show since mid 2018. You are one of my favorites, and I'm not just saying that to be nice or supportive. I really appreciate how invested you are in the show and in the characters, and your thoughtful analysis. It means a lot. I'll be sticking around up through at least Angel season 5, which I assume will be on your new channel. Regarding the series, Buffy is still my favorite series of all time, even 20+ years after the show ended. Granted I haven't watched that many new shows for the past decade or so. The most recent show I actually finished was Supernatural, which ended in 2020. Buffy, as you now know, is an amazing ride, and it's enjoyable to watch others experience the same up and downs as you did. Regarding season 7, it's one of my favorite seasons. I'd put it right up there with season 3 in terms of quality. Both have a large number of good episodes and they even end rather similarly: with a big battle in which Sunnydale High is destroyed (and the entirety of Sunnydale in the series finale). Seasons 2 and 5 will always be tied for my favorite, though. Regarding this episode, your reaction was everything I could have wanted. I love that you caught the line Giles says, "The earth is definitely doomed," which is a call back to season 1. Technically the second episode, but really the first two episodes kind of form one long episode. It's tragic that we lost both Spike and Anya. One thing they had in common was they both were introduced to the series as demons, and they both got "reinsouled" in their own ways. With Anya, admittedly, it's a little less clear since they don't exactly use that language with her. But, her becoming human again in season 3 made her born or reborn as a human in a certain sense. She rediscovered having a conscience and what it meant to feel human emotions. Then with Spike it's obviously much more clear. He was an evil, soulless demon, he fought for a soul, and fully regained his humanity. While he did have SOME traces of humanity even as a vampire, which allowed him to have affection for Buffy in a certain sense in seasons 5 and 6, it was always twisted. In season 7, with his soul fully restored, he could finally give her the gift he wanted. To love her selflessly and to die, not just for her, but for the world. I'm sure there are a lot of things I'm forgetting to say, so I may make other comments later on. But for now I just wanted to finish by saying thank you for reacting to Buffy. I really enjoyed it, and I'll see you again for the last season of Angel. Cheers!

Steve Quast

regarding the spoiler: they included this even in trailers well before the season aired. It was even known before this finale aired, which ... makes it quite sad unfortunately.

Minister Kosh

Sending hugs <3 <3 <3 it's so strange and hard finishing this show, but so fun to rewatch and keep engaging with in our own ways. Thank you so much for bringing us along with you Cass. Anya and Spike are literally my favourite characters but somehow I'm almost the most upset seeing Sunnydale collapse into that crater, there's a finality to it that really makes you face that this beautiful show is ending. What a final episode.

Mollie K

Thank you Cass for sharing this fun and emotional journey with us.

The Testimony of Mushroom

Thank you for sharing your Buffy journey with us! ❤️ It's been so much fun rewatching it in full, and you're hands-down my favourite reactor for your thoughtfulness and empathy. This season has stumbled along a bit here and there, but it nails the landing here, where it counts. As a hopeful coming-of-age story, I couldn't ask for a better, more thematically resonant ending. I'm so excited to watch Angel season 5 with you as well! Not to shade Buffy at all, but I think Angel has an even stronger ending.

Jordan McLaren

Thank you Cass. Your reactions have always been my favorite. All the way back to the deleted GoT reactions. Your sincerity and genuineness always shine through. Thank you for all the hard work and effort you put it. It is appreciated. Buffy is my favorite show of all time. I watched it as it aired and watched the final episode at a watch party event in Los Angeles with many other Buffy fans at the time. This final episode encapsulates the whole theme of the show. Its about appreciating those closest to you, and realising that even when you feel alone you are not. Buffy is the most successful Slayer because she wasn't alone. She always had the Scoobies by her side, and in the end no Slayer will be alone again. I am happy to know that we have now added another Buffy fan to join our community. Welcome to the Hellmouth! 🙂

Matthew

I’ve been thinking a lot about the upcoming reboot, and I really hope it stands on its own. I’d rather it not return to Sunnydale, because that place belongs to the original. What I’d love is a new Slayer, a new location, and brand-new storylines so nothing about the original is changed or taken away. I adore Buffy the Vampire Slayer so much that a reboot honestly scares me. I don’t want anything altered from what made the show perfect. I would love to see some of the original cast—Buffy, Willow, even Andrew—if it fits naturally. I know some actors might not return, like Xander, and the thought of not seeing Dawn again is heartbreaking, especially with Michelle Trachtenberg’s passing. Still, I’m excited because it’s Buffy. I just hope Sarah Michelle Gellar’s presence is strong enough to make it feel like home, not just a cameo here and there. For people new to the franchise, I still think the original is the one they should watch first, because no matter what the reboot does, it can’t top the magic of the 1997 series. At best, it can only add something new to the Buffyverse.

Mayra Martinez

This is amazing!! To think I first came across your channel on YouTube and then have been following along with you on here since Season 5 and all of your content has been amazing!! I've seen this finale dozens of times but I cant help to sob every time! LOL Cant wait to see what else you've got coming here! ALSO two quick things: ONE: Buffy’s last words of the entire series being “I love you.” And “Spike.” I could cry again. And love that Michelle got the final live of the show overall <3 <3 TWO: In case tons of people haven’t already told you, PLEASE PLEASE PLEEEEASE cover your eyes during the Angel S5 first episode intro. There’s a major spoiler within the intro that to this day idk why the producers included it lol. So hopefully you see this or hopefully your mods let you know to avoid it! <3

Cameron Ferguson

Ms. Cass, I love that you’ve fallen in love with Buffy. For me, the show is pure comfort—even with all its ups and downs, the good always outweighs the bad. It’s been such a long journey, and I’m so happy you got to experience it and become part of this amazing community. I’ll admit I preferred your earlier reaction style, when you paused and talked through things more, but honestly it doesn’t matter as much as the fact that you made it all the way here. Now, with the reboot on the horizon, you’re officially one of us. Welcome to the Buffy family!

Mayra Martinez

omg ty for sticking with me <33

Cassie

An end to a journey! Thank you Cass for this amazing ride. I think I'm subscribed since season 1 episode 8 or so. When I saw your first Buffy reaction on Youtube I was dumbfounded because I knew I remembered you from somewhere but I didn't immediately remember from where. Only later it dawned on me that I was also subscribed to your old Youtube channel and very much enjoyed your Game of Thrones reactions. I don't know how many years ago this was but ... man ... what a ride! Buffy is my most favorite show ever too. I'm so old that I remember when it was originally aired, however back then I never followed it as much as today and I largely forgot that it existed. I found it on Disney a few years ago and thought that it would bring back some good old memories when I started to watch some episodes. Only to discover how great this show is, even 25 years later. I'm still obsessed and have rewatched it countless times. Again, thanks for the ride and the show, it was amazing! I look forward to your other channel.

Minister Kosh

won’t be able to watch the last two eps for a few days, but just commenting to say that i looooved rewatching this with you. haven’t done a full rewatch since i saw it for the first time as a kid, and it was so fun. your reactions are also so insightful and balanced. i’m glad i found your page through this show and am here to stay for whatever is next!

kachow6969

Also, a note - earlier when the character Cassie told Spike "One day she'll tell you", it was this episode Buffy finally said to Spike "I love you." Nice little bow tie for that moment. 🎀

MaggieStormborn

I loved watching with you, felt like getting to show a friend. Hugs, we were all weeping too when we saw it!

MaggieStormborn

Mayra Martinez

Hard to believe it's over. So glad to have shared this journey with you and everyone else in the community.

K Murray

Kyle

I’m looking forward to watching this as soon as I get off from work today!

Keenan White

I’m excited to see this one. You did such an amazing job as a reactor to one of the best shows ever! I have rewatched this series countless times. This was my first time watching it with a reactor and I’m glad I lucked out and found your YouTube channel.

Sam Seawright

i'm so afraid to watch it omg IT CAN'T BE OVER NOOOOOO

Kyle

Thank you so much for sharing your Buffy journey with all of us! This show already held a very special place in my heart, but somehow that place became even more special when I discovered you because of it. On top of all the thoughtful insights you never fail to provide, you have fostered one of the most unbelievably welcoming and comforting communities that I’ve ever had the pleasure to be a part of. I can’t wait to see where this journey will go from here!
