Vote For Our Next TV Show!

Hi guyssss….I'm emotional. This week is going to be the week that we finish watching 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'. I'm sad to be closing that chapter, but so excited to see what doors open up from here! I am, of course, going to continue reacting to TV as it's one of my favorite forms of media. On top of that, I would not have been able to go full time with all of this in August if it were not for the support I get on Patreon, so going forward I want you guys to be more involved than ever when it comes to choosing what we're watching together — this will extend to movies as well.

But yes…it's time to vote for a new show that I will be watching while also covering the final season of 'Angel'. So go ahead and vote for EVERY show below that you would be happy to see as our next Patreon full reaction show!

OMG I love your profile pic 😅

Andi Kemberling

Buffy comics! I can dub them for you ;) Lmk if you're interested in continuing your Buffy journey after you finish Angel! I don't want it to end! 😭 But also I vote for Dollhouse ☺️

Andi Kemberling

I can't seem to vote! I would love Firefly followed by Dollhouse

Monica

If you're looking for a fun show with a female lead, there are better options than Dollhouse: Jessica Jones, Alias, Veronica Mars, Xena, Dark Angel, Gilmore Girls, Wednesday, Russian Doll, Yellowjackets, and Orphan Black.... Just to name a few. Nothing comes close to Buffy, though. It really was a special show.

Brian

It's a good show (long, though), but Eric Kripke was never a writer on Angel.

El

Love Firefly so I'm happy it's winning. Some of my other favs in case it helps are Jessica Jones, Freaks & Geeks, Chernobyl, Broadchurch

Shell

I’m gonna argue and say that Firefly is not better than Dollhouse however, a lot of people didn’t like Dollhouse because of the premise you could say and also because of what we know of Joss Whedon. Many people didn’t even finish watching DH so my argument is that Dollhouse is actually better than Firefly and that’s not to take anything from it. Firefly still really good, but it’s not better than Dollhouse. I would love for Cass to react to both and to hear what she thinks. (I’m not a lawyer in case you’re wondering. 🥸)

Mayra Martinez

Dr. Horrible's SALB is amazing, I rewatch it at least a couple of times a year. Neil Patrick Harris is just too freaking hilarious as Dr. Horrible, and the rest of the cast is top notch.

Gaius Frakking Baltar

... and I totally forgot about iZombie -- 71 episodes ( a zombie medical examiner gets psychic visions from murder victims (when she eats some of their brains) and hilarity ensues as she races to catch the killer and fake the reasons she knows things nobody else does. The writing and jokes are super funny and the plot twists are just WTF. It is like Cracked magazine made a zombie detective show.

spikeysnack

Yeah all his worst impulses are on display: lack of long term planning, lots of rape, lots of rape that he insists isn’t rape, etc etc

Jorgalorg

I have to throw out the suggestion of Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog. It's less than an hour and you can do it one night as a movie reaction!

MaggieStormborn

Go watch it on Netflix and you will be so happy you got to experience it.

MaggieStormborn

A shot in the dark but Supernatural maybe? Generationally speaking it’s the next descendant of the Buffyverse, created for WB by a writer on Angel S5.

Isaiah Bryant

Tru Calling was great and scratched that X files itch in the best way. The writing was original and good.

Dollhouse show was definitely "pre me too" in that it did the twisty thing of showing off sexy bodies being sex objects, while being ironic wink wink about how progressive and feminist they were. But at the time it seemed like a good idea: a high-tech brothel of mind-wiped escorts that were really programmed to be secret agents and go on spy missions while they "entertained" rich scumbags. But then the mind-wipe stops working so well and they start waking up ... The show Alias from 8 years before was way better, and definitely worth checking out. Dollhouse had 27 episodes, and that was probably way too many.

Criminal Minds gets too real sometimes. To review a show like that would lead down a lot of dark paths about very hard to talk-about subjects. I trauma-quit about mid season 2, because it just hurt. I did like that one of the themes was that dealing with such dark things hurt the psyches of the good guys and they couldn't always take it either, and had to take care of themselves for a while too.

Grimm -- 123 episodes (A cop in Portland, Oregon discovers there are beastly monsters hiding in plain sight, and it is his destiny to hunt them down. Writers of Buffy and Angel worked on the show. The makeup effects on this show are fantastic, but there is a lot of violence and some gore, and is mostly episodic but has a long-game backstory of the mythology of the show as well. Lots of fun, not too deep. The Magicians -- 65 episodes ( a troubled group of young adults at a secret magical school get into a lot of magical trouble, and discover that fantasies can be real, and terrifying. The characters are great, the acting is great, the stories are wild and unpredictable, and the cool factor is off the charts. The psychological horror and sub-themes of childhood trauma are pretty serious at times. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: 36 episodes. A darker version than the Archies, all about a loving family of Satanic witches, and Sabrina, being caught between the world of witches and humans. A mix of humor and old-school horror, and coming of age. This has a bit of Addams family reverse-humor stuff going on, and is not all that scary, but it does have some heart pounding moments.

spikeysnack

I would also like to make a suggestion: Criminal Minds. It's one of the best crime shows.

anna

I will always support and encourage more Agents of SHIELD reactors :-)

Ariel17

Of the two Mutant Enemy shows, I think I have to agree with everyone else that Firefly is the better show but Dollhouse is the more thought/conversation provoking. Not that I'm suggesting these other shows but since you put on two Mutant Enemy shows, I figured I'd round out the list: Cabin in the Woods is a good horror(ish) movie. It'd probably be good for the podcast. and Agents of Shield very much has the feeling and quality of Buffy writing without any of the Joss uncomfortableness. (though I doubt jumping into a completely different show the length of Buffy is a light decision)

Cyrinil

Gonna go rogue and suggest Orphan Black as a Joss-free alternative to Dollhouse. That premise of that show has just gotten creepier considering things we know now.

Robin J.

I voted Firefly cause it's my fav from these options but I think you would enjoy Dollhouse more. I think there's more to analyze and discuss so might be a better choice.

Katrina T

I'm surprised to see Dollhouse get so much enthusiastic support in the comments. Without commenting on whether it's a good or a bad show (My thoughts are Long and Complicated), I've seen VERY little pop culture awareness of that series or any sort of references or engagement in the years since it aired. If you'd asked me yesterday, I would have said that nobody except die-hard Eliza Dushku fans remembered it. I didn't know I was so out of touch. With that said, my vote's for Firefly, with Arcane as the show to watch after Firefly.

JBK405

While I haven’t seen the TV show Firefly, I have seen the movie Serenity. From what I understand, Serenity is basically the finale—or at least an extension—of the show, since it was canceled so early. If you ask me, I’d recommend watching Dollhouse first. It’s only two seasons, 12 episodes each season, so it’s a quick watch. After Dollhouse, you can move on to the Firefly series and then finish with the Serenity movie. The aesthetics of Firefly are pretty dope—there’s a lot going on that I don’t want to spoil, and it’s definitely interesting. I just feel like Dollhouse is way more thought-provoking and grabs me more. Since I haven’t seen the show yet, I might consider watching Firefly after Dollhouse.

Mayra Martinez

Well at least Firefly isn't a long show. It's entertaining enough, but it's a pretty bland show held up by great characters IMO.

Chytilova

Never even heard of Arcane.

Melissa

THIS!

Billy Kearney

Without diminishing the importance of all three shows, I would also recommend that you pay attention to Chernobyl. It's literally 4 episodes, although they are big. Kind of like that four-episode show you reacted to during Buffy. Since the show is relatively short, you won't need to change your main show's viewing schedule at all.

ThePowerDrome

Not on the list but have you seen the old Charmed?

Lucy Young

I did start watching Firefly, and i really like Nathan Fillion but I just found it so dull. Never seen Dollhouse but i'd definitely watch it, and not interested in Arcane.

David Allan

Do not get the Dollhouse love lol it has Joss Whedon's creepiness stamped all over it.

Pauline Robertson

I second this. In my personal opinion, Charmed is like Buffy's sister show in terms of '90s supernatural shows. I watched Buffy and Angel years ago, and after I finished, I was looking for a show to fill that hole, and a friend recommended Charmed, and it's now one of my favorites.

Noah Anderson

You should also consider Charmed! Maybe not right now, but at some point. It was made around the same time, and it has a very similar feel to it. I think you would really enjoy it!

Avalon Perry

There’s another classic late 90’s WB show that was great called Felicity starting Keri Russell that’s worth checking out.

Cody

Firefly is winning? Shiny!

Gaius Frakking Baltar

Sure wish someone would react to "The Magicians". It is the most Buffy-like show I've ever seen.

Jeff Walker

Veronica Mars! Also, did you already finish Breaking Bad? I feel like I heard that you started watching it on your previous channel.

MG

Dream academy maybe?🥺👉🏽👈🏽

My Name Is Jose

It's happening! So now is the time. You're so lucky that you get to experience it for the first time.

Joe Maher

Definitely Dollhouse! It's so thought provoking. I never got into Fitefly, sorry. Just never interested me.

Melissa

I voted Firefly but I am also all in on Veronica Mars... as the next show after!

aeronitz

I'd like it if you kept us updated with how the Buffy rewatch with younger sis is going. I found your youtube channel when the two of you were watching Brooklyn 9-9!

aeronitz

Seconding this! Veronica Mars would be the Buffiest follow-up possible, it's Buffier than either Firefly or Dollhouse - which are both good, especially Firefly.

Arlo Murphy

Out of these options, I think Firefly is the best show. However, I think you’d enjoy Dollhouse and Arcane more. In any case, I’ll be happy with whichever show wins and I think you will be too.

Lime Pie

Dollhouse is a must! please watch you will not regret it. For Firefly, there is also a movie called Serenity.

Mayra Martinez

I don't love dollhouse but I do like it. I love firefly and arcane. I'm pulling for Firefly and since it's so short hopefully after the film we can do Arcane.

Keith Jones

possibly…the thing is - I watched the first season when it first came out in 2021. and I don't really remember anything concrete, so we'll see! I usually only like to react to shows that I'm COMPLETElY blind on, but we could maybe make that work down the line!

Cassie

Dollhouse!

Luke

I second this!

MaggieStormborn

Dollhouse!!

Mementovitae

Veronica Mars please.

Nica Marie

Voted for Firefly. Will you do a reaction to YellowJackets in the future? Seems like a show you'd might like, but no rush.

Jon

I think it's definitely worth doing Firefly then Dollhouse.

David Curtis

Omg I would be happy with all of them! But I think you would get most out of doing Arcane - there is so much to say and it is just so good, in all respects. Dollhouse is good and is such an interesting concept and I love Eliza Dushku (but despite this, there is a general consensus that it is slightly problematic in some respects) and Firefly only has one season (as well as the subsequent film Serenity which is one of my comfort films).

Photogenic_Octopus

Arcane is my pick. It would be a nice change of pace for the channel. A break from the Whedoness of it all. But I hope you do all 3 at some point.

Funkachute

I hope Firefly wins. It’s an amazing show. I know you’ll love it. Then the movie serenity icing on the cake And because it’s only one season and one movie you’ll power through it in no time and be ready for another show

Sam Alexander

Dollhouse or Tru Calling. Both excellent options that ended far too soon.

Mohegan13

You would ABSOLUTELY love Dollhouse. So much to discuss.

Pascal Zielke

Definitely arcane out of these 3

Ayy_Dee

praying for arcane because i’ve been meaning to watch it but can’t do shit without a body double lmfao

ryles

Omg Dollhouse is another one of my fave shows 😭

Melissa Reynolds

I mean you gotta follow up Buffy and Angel with Firefly. Arcane can come later.

Jason Gillman

You should watch Tru Calling !

Tim MacKay

Ahhhh!!!!

Melissa Reynolds
