The first theories involving Darla make no sense, it is obviously the powers that be granting Darla passage in that moment to reach out to Conner. Even if he ignored his mother at the end of that moment, she was still the vision of guidance and love that he so desperately needed so he could feel what it means to matter.

She gave birth to herself. Her power was limited whilst she possessed Cordelia's body...until now. It's exciting to expand on what's out there in the great beyond from what we already knew. The PTB and their innerworkings have always been there yet unseen behind the scenes (pun intended with what has happened to Cordelia this season.)

Tbh if the beautiful Gina Torres walked into the room and smiled at me, I'd also fall down to my knees in supplication

Even though saying everything our heroes have been through was leading to this "story with scope" sounds cool and clever, and I love seeing Skip again to deliver it (even as a bad guy, Skip's a great character), I still can't help but think it's the show trying to convince us that this disjointed season makes sense. I'm with Gunn and his belief in free will. And, in the end, I think that the show is, too. After all, that's what Darla was pleading with Connor about: it had to come down to him making a choice, exercising his free will. And he made the wrong one. Murdering an innocent must always be wrong. Suffering through Connor being impossibly manipulated and deeply stupid is one thing, but him choosing murder kills off any vestige of sympathy I might have left.

Angel's no stranger to "kill the person you love to save the world". Remember when Buffy sent him to hell to keep the demon Acathla from swallowing the whole world? I agree that this was Darla-Darla in the vision, not a trick by anybody else. She really seemed to think that Connor had the good inside of him and she was trying to bring it out. If somebody Evil was trying to manipulate him they would have taken a different tactic (Like saying that this is magic and he hates magic, or something like that). Gunn's speech is another iteration of the main theme of the entire series: If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do. It's been said several times before, and it keeps being true. It doesn't matter if we won't save the world with THIS action or THAT action, we will do THIS BIT OF GOOD. And that matters.

There are FIVE episodes left in the season, not four. They're all 22 episodes.

Yeah, I don't subscribe to that theory about Darla either, but it is an interesting one. I also find the Lovecraftian theme very interesting.

I love the cosmic horror, Lovecraftian turn this season takes. I'm a sucker for incomprehensible eldritch beings and their grand designs. Seeing Darla again is such a welcome surprise, and it's pretty heartbreaking to see how deep the grooming and manipulation of Connor have sunk their claws into him. Vincent performs the inner conflict very well. There's a fan theory that Darla is actually the First in those scenes - I don't subscribe to it personally, but it makes a certain amounts of sense once you've seen the whole season. On one hand, it's a shame Skip turned out to be evil all along, but on the other it's fun to see him turn heel and fight our crew. The great Gina Torres showing up at the end really threw me for a loop on my first viewing. I hope you react to Firefly one day, another Whedon show in which she stars. It aired at the same time as this season, but was unfortunately cancelled prematurely before completing its full run. I have a lot of thoughts, but they kind of need to wait for the next few episodes

Should I go to sleep before my night shift now? *video posts* Maybe in a little bit.

Evil Skip is pretty great too though.
