FYI this episode isn't included in the season 4 collection. I don't want others to miss out on it like I almost did.

Gunnwen works for me

Alexa Davalos and J. August Richards truly did have great chemistry in this episode, although there's really not a good ship name that can be created from "Gunn" and "Gwen". Gwunn? Btw, you might consider doing one of your I'd Survive podcast episodes about a 2007 horror movie called "The Mist". Alexa stars in the movie, which is based on a Stephen King novel.

I'm still not sure if Gunn's comment about living through a turgid supernatural soap opera and Fred's about being forced Clockwork Orange-style to watch a bad movie qualify as witty self-awareness of how this season has unfolded, or a lame attempt at an apology for it.

I always thought that was genuinely clever--- how the writers let Wesley's re-entry just pretty much *slip by.* He's the main character's best friend--- for all their ups and downs--- which is also frequently left unspoken. It doesn't feel like a 'trick' or a gimmick; it's just--- not everything has to be spelled out with dialogue. [Edit: the farthest they pushed it--- was just one exchange from the previous ending. Angel: "So we're back." Wesley: "It would seem."]

I like the juxtaposition of Wesley saying "it's not always about holding hands", and later Gwen says that the device might not let her be normal, but it might let her hold hands. Great ending and another great reaction!

I think all of your watchers knew this ending would please you 💯

The opposite of "love" isn't "hate", it's "apathy". Wesley may have started out hating Lilah, but by the nature of hating her that means he thinks about her, he thinks about what she does, he thinks about her intentions and thought processes and everything else. And that may not be a healthy foundation for a relationship, but it's definitely a foundation for lust and passion and toxic obsession. And when you're alone and lonely, lust and passion (and toxic obsession) don't seem like such bad choices. You haven't really commented it yet, but if you notice by the last few episodes Wesley has finally fully re-joined the main group. They're working side-by-side and nobody is asking "Why are you still here?" or "Why are we working with him again?" like kept happening earlier in the season. Wesley's taking orders from Angel without snapping back, and nobody's snarking at him for failing on his own. It seems like the recent threats have made them all decide to put aside their personal conflicts because they've realized that this apocalypse is the real deal.
