'Froot' by Marina and the Diamonds Full Album Reaction

'Froot' by Marina and the Diamonds Full Album Reaction

To recommend and album: I think Desire, I Want To Turn Into You by Caroline Polachek would definitely be up your ally! It's a super interesting art-pop album, and I think you would have a great time making sense of the lyrics in her songs.

I was waiting for this!!!! It makes me sad that you’re not continuing the Marina journey cause Ancient dreams in a modern land is my favorite album of hers but it’s ok, it’s your time and it’s understandable…. I’d suggest Aurora, Lorde and Halsey for your next series!!

This was amazing, thank you 😊 solitaire means a single diamond or something like that. I'm sad to hear you won't be reacting to her next two albums. Love+Fear has a concept as well. It sounds more like mainstream pop. I still like it. I think she made sure to have a whole female team working on it. Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land is so good though! I kind of want to beg you to give it a try 😭 I love the lyrics and tempo of the songssss and it's just so cool. And it had deluxe songs which are also gooooddd. Pleeeaaaseee

Some extra lore: Better than That is most literally believed to be about Ellie Goulding who dated an ex of Marina. They have since made up (though not on the remix). And Immortal was created from seeing a review of a small war memorial in Poland.: ‘It’s not a very beautiful memorial, but it deserves to be visited to keep their memory alive.’ Her grandmother that sings at the end of Fear and Loathing had also recently passed away

Yes, she absolutely was done with being a public artist and took a (relative for pop stars) a big break after Froot. Also why she dropped the full stage name for her return—to signify a change in her relationship to the brand she’d made. Although Electra Heart is now a cult classic, it was not well revived at the time and all the money she poured into it left her in a bad spot in the industry, so much so that the first photo shoot and promotion for Froot she paid with her own money to show the label that she had a vision because they didn’t trust her. I cannot stress enough how incredible it is that this album is entirely self written and co-produced with only one guy. And to your question about Happy, while fans generally had a positive reception to that song, their comments to future songs that are about positivity or social commentary have been generally negative. There is very much a sentiment that she was better when she was unhappy, and her latest upcoming album is fighting that head on. Especially as she nears 40, it’s nice to see her double down and reminding even her own fans that women can always happy, fun, and silly and still make good music.

Electra Heart will forever have a special place in my heart, and I adore that album, but tbh there are only a few songs on the other two albums you’ve listened to that I regularly return to. And I really enjoy those songs, but the complete projects (not counting EH) just don’t have me returning to them much. My top three from this are Can’t Pin Me Down, Better than That, and Froot, in that order. I have to say, I’ve only heard immortal once, and listening to it again, it makes a lot of sense that this was the last time she went Marina and the Diamonds, which I don’t think we knew back then. At least I didn’t because I never looked too far into her life outside of the albums. With immortal, it’s like she’s moving on from this stage in her life and this persona. Like that song is her saying like I hope you remember me even if this doesn’t keep going or if you don’t follow me into this next phase of my life.

I'm voting for a Mitski reaction

have you considered listening to Aurora's discography? I think many people would love that and I also think you would like her music ❤️ Caitlin fell in love with her so it would be interesting to see your reaction
