Everything Holtz does in his entire arc is for vengeance. He originally wants to kill Angel for vengeance. He changes that plan when he sees the baby, because it's crueller to steal Angel's child than to just kill Angel (and it aligns Angel's loss with his own). He jumps into Qu'ortoth because it's crueller to doom Angel to seeing his child taken to hell than to steal him away to Utah. And finally he returns Connor to Angel while he has Justine frame Angel for his death because the one thing that's even crueller than taking something precious, is to give it back broken. I think Holtz did love Connor, but I think even that love was secondary to (and probably in service of) his need for vengeance.

The club fight scene, the slow mo hero pose with both Angel and Connor, the play fighting in the alley, might be one of my favourite sequences across the BtVSU. And this statement might draw some ire from the rest of the fanbase but here goes, ditto for Connor's character and storyline. Needless to say I'm hyped to see your reactions to everything that we'll be getting into in the next little while. As always can't wait for the next one πŸ‘

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

A fun episode; Cordy yelling over the club music that only she can hear is amusing. Ready for the season 3 finale!

I think you misunderstood the whole ending with Holtz plan. He wanted to be killed that way and Angel framed. Maybe you should rewatch the section. Holtz hasn't changed. ;-)

Holtz is so interesting to me, and his end here is interesting. I think Holtz’ plan was that he was going to exact revenge on Angel in a long lasting way by manipulating Connor into hating Angel. It’s not an act that he loves Connor, but he’s being deceptive; he has Justine kill him in a way that frames Angel. It’s what he really meant about love being more powerful than hate: he used his love for Connor and Connors love for him in the service of revenge, which is so very twisted.
