March 2025 Movie Recap

March 2025 Movie Recap

Glad you liked Shadow of the Vampire for the most part! And you're definitely right about it being very witty, it's almost a stealth comedy. And Willem Dafoe, of course, is incredible like he is in everything.

A live release of these recaps sounds great, especially if they are on Sunday mornings. I’m really glad you stuck through the Before trilogy. It’s one of my favorites because it tells such a cohesive story in such a unique way. If you ever watch the first two again, you can see how well set up the story is. This month, I mostly watched Gaspar Noe’s films for the first time, namely ‘Irreversible’, ‘Enter the Void’, and ‘Climax’, and I have never felt so sick to my stomach from just watching something before (this might be TMI, but I actually threw up watching ‘Irreversible’). They were very well made, but I honestly wouldn’t recommend them unless you are absolutely prepared for what you are getting into.

OMG Shadow of the Vampire is such a great movie I love it so much. Also the Before movies are literally some of my fave movies ever. Now you’ve seen the Before Trilogy I highly recommend Boyhood, which is also written and directed by Richard Linklater. It’s a very different film but it uses a similar method - it was shot over 12 years using the same cast, where they would shoot for 1 week each year, and it follows a boy and his family from age 6 to 18 (Ethan Hawke plays the dad). It’s absolutely incredible.

The best of what I watched in March would be ‘Mickey 17’ (which I saw in the cinema) and ‘Blue Velvet’ (1986) directed by David Lynch. I really enjoyed 'Longlegs' with its X-Files meet Silence of the Lamb vibes and also watched 'Anora' (which I enjoyed) because of good word of mouth in the lead up and following its Oscar win. I will be on the lookout for 'Shadow of the Vampire' (I enjoyed the 1922 and 2024 version of Nosferatu) and 'Before Midnight'; I have seen 'Before Sunset' and 'Before Sunrise', although I enjoyed the first more than the second. A livestream sounds fun.
