Oh thank Christ I thought my computer was just hurting itself

Jorgalorg

I needed to be reminded there's men out there with your perspective, thanks

Krista

I was so excited to run right into the episode I forgot to welcome you back from your vacation. I hope you had a fun time!

Why has no one mentioned that the very beginning is out of sync. I feel like I'm insane

Clarf

That's a bit of a mischaracterization of what she said and a reduction of what she was trying to get across / ask.

End of this episode was very sad my first time watching. I really felt Angel's pain.

Cass I love watching you spin theories -- that's half the reason I watch reactions in the first place -- but the way you spent so much time theorizing about Angelus for the past few episodes has been driving me bonkers. I couldn't wait for you to get here and learn that Angelus had nothing to do with it. I think you're giving Holtz too much credit by making "fatherhood/family" the biggest part of his motivation. I don't doubt that it's PART of his motivation, but it's a very small part. The main part is revenge first and foremost. Ever since he learned that Angel has a soul he's said that he deserves worse punishment than just being tortured and killed. Holtz wants Angel to sufer the way Holtz suffered, by losing his family. He wanted to HURT Angel in a way that he could never have hurt Angelus. Lilah has always had the same motivation vis-à-vis Connor since they first learned Darla was pregnant. W&H has always wanted to study him to learn how he exists, what role he has in the prophecies, etc. She told Sahjhan that she would work with him to kill Connor because she's a liar and manipulator, and she wanted to use him to hurt Angel in a way that W&H didn't want to do (Since W&H has also been clear in not killing Angel all along due to his own role in the various prophecies).

I don't think that "toxic feminism" is a worry here and I also don't think that the Discord, Twitch, and Patreon commentators that I've seen are likely to think any such thing about you. Although society is going through some things right now, I've noticed that the largest source of misogyny and misandry is social media. It is also my personal opinion that the loudest criers about "toxic feminism" are not exactly paragons of masculine virtue. As to "toxic masculinity", there is more justification (some of it quite dangerous) still there however, the loudest don't provide the best arguments either. My level of hope varies from day-to-day... that being said, people are still finding their "favorite humans" around. I see mostly good cheer in your followers, subscribers, and patrons, Cass. My best to all present and (please) lets keep ahold of our excitement for the season wrap-ups for the Buffyverse.

Every time I see Sahjhan I expect him to burst out into Mr Crowley…

Martin Gardner

toxic feminism?? because you like seeing a female fictional character correct her male subordinate??? come on sis... *sigh* we're not out of the woods yet.... 😵‍💫

madfem

Yes, Holtz wants Connor for himself because he never got to see his kids grow up. But also because it's a great revenge on Angel. It's like the most twisted perfect revenge fantasy anyone in his position could come up with.

madfem

No, Wesley definitely cares about Angel&co. We literally just saw him going to Holtz TWICE to try and reason him into changing his mind about killing Angel...

A very intense double feature for Wesley. Regarding Lilah dressing down that soldier; for me it really depends on how normal the scenario is. If the soldier works for Wolfram&Hart and is supposed to follow orders from Wolfram&Hart higher ups, then him not treating Lilah respectfully and her dressing him down for it is a cool moment for Lilah. If this is a normal guy, that Wolfram&Hart is somehow blackmailed him from his normal military/law enforcement job to do a special job for the evil lawyers, it would make sense that he is flustered and would forget that this lawyer stepping out of the car is now running the operation. Which would make Lilah seem more evil, and since she is a villain, that is good for her character in a different way

James Smith

Just in response to what you said at the end, I don't think there's anything wrong with taking pleasure in seeing Lilah put an underling in their place. The dude WAS kind of casually disrespectful so I think it's kinda earned, but even if it wasn't, it wouldn't be the worst thing. Besides, it’s in-character for Lilah and it’s fun to see villains assert themselves like that, particularly entertaining villains like Lilah. I remember loving it whenever Roose Bolton dressed down his son for being a jackass, despite Roose being no better. And as a man, it doesn't really bother me, no. I’m not saying misandry isn’t a thing, but speaking personally, it’s not something I’m massively bothered by because much of the time, I feel like it’s not deeply-felt toward men in general but toward the system which seems to reward men. It feels to me like frustration expressed by women for living in a world so dominated by systemic misogyny across virtually all societies that the leader of the free world is a convicted rapist. And seeing even little things like this scene with Lilah asserting herself as a legitimate authority who truly does not care what her underlings think about her as long as they dance to her tune can be oddly inspirational in this kind of world, I think.

Jorgalorg

I love how tense this episode gets! The scenes of Wesley trying to take Connor out of the hotel and the standoff at the end are superb. There's absolutely nothing wrong with liking how intimidated the W&H employee was of Lilah. Even speaking as a man, I enjoyed seeing Lilah flex her power. I should hope that no one is bothered by you sharing your honest opinion. It seems you forgot that Lilah said in the episode 'Dad' that she wanted the baby alive to dissect it and figure out what role it plays in the prophecies.

Lime Pie

Once again beaten by their greatest foe: Lack of communication.

Blake Lesch

By the way, phone plans were expensive and extra minutes were brutal back then.

Andyroo

A double drop for these two episodes in particular?! I don't have to wait for "next week" ? And I'm off work today? Don't mind me, just living my best life over here.
