Aliens (1986): Full Movie Reaction

Aliens (1986): Full Movie Reaction

Comments

Whoooooeeeeee, what a film. I watched this tonight because I needed a distraction. I prefer the Special Edition over the Theatrical Cut, but thankfully it is just a matter of "Good and Better" between the two of them. This version is still great. I think you'd enjoy watching the Special Edition on your own, it's not different enough to merit its own reaction video. I'm not a fan of the sequels all on my own, and I don't think you'll enjoy them either. Watch them if you want, but for me these two films are a self-contained duology. P.S. Hudson and Hicks are not twins (Or brothers). Gorman not being sure which is which was meant to show that he's new and not very skilled in command, since he doesn't even know how to tell his own subordinates apart. They look generically similar because they're wearing the same armor and the same style, so they both just look like sci-fi soldiers.

...and then Hicks, Ripley, and Newt lived happily ever after and the next two Aliens films were bad dreams Ripley had.

The game is called Alien: Isolation which is a survival horror. As James Smith has already stated there’s a special edition of Aliens with 17 minutes extra (I won’t spoil in case you wish to watch that at some point) but it adds a subplot which the game is based on. Definitely worth playing - one of the best games in the last 15 years and definitely the best Alien game out there.

Fun bit of trivia: Bill Paxton (Hudson), Jenette Goldstein (Vasquez), and Lance Henriksen (Bishop) all starred together in a cult classic 1980's vampire flick called "Near Dark" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAWc5l0rJhA

Another action scifi horror movie directed by James Cameron and starring Michael Biehn (Corporal Hicks) is 'The Terminator'

Alien is still my favorite horror movie of all time...but holy shit this is right up there with The Godfather II, The Empire Strikes Back, and The Dark Knight, as being one of the greatest sequels of all time. And the Queen? Just one of the greatest monster innovations ever. This was a really nice treat to come home to after work...thanks.

Just a heads up to anyone who like me only has access to the Special Edition DVD, the special edition is 17 minutes longer than the theatrical cut. Most of the differences are in the first hour.

Also, as Mushroom commented below, I love the 'five by five' line! I wasn't sure if you'd pick up on it, but it's such a fun little thing for Buffy fans. Joss Whedon is a huge fan of Alien and Aliens and Ripley inspired Buffy, so I love the fact that the 'five by five' in this shows us where he got Faith's catchphrase from. I like to make up my own backstory that Faith is a fan of this movie and decided to use it as her catchphrase lmao.

LOVED THIS REACTION SO MUCH. Personally I also can't say this is better than the first. Nothing can compare to Alien - the mystery, the claustrophobia, the horror. They are completely different movies - Aliens is essentially an action movie whereas Alien is a horror. Aliens is not 'better', but IMO they are equally as good as each other in their respective genres. If that makes sense lol.

It's not too late to include something similar as a pop-up text in the youtube edit. I'd be proud af.

Cass: 'I wonder if she's mute.' Me: 'No, she's Newt.'

"There's a lot of big frat bro energy." Yeah, but the dialogue in that scene implies that frat bro-ness has evolved in the future. If you pay close attention, you can hear one of the male marines has no regrets about having sex with a male (humanoid) alien when one of the other guys points it out, and when it's established that he doesn't care they drop it rather than giving him shit for it. Nicely forward-thinking for a film from the mid-80s.

"I feel like most people probably are." Most modern viewers definitely are. Modern audiences are very familiar with horror film rules and she's one of the only two people (along with Parker, who also usually has sensible ideas) actually trying to stick to them, so she endears herself to a modern audience very quickly. But I've heard commenters who watched it when it came out say that the initial reaction to Ripley was more mixed at the time - some were on her side quickly, but others found her unlikable until it became clear she had the right idea all along.

Five by five.
