I definitely know how it feels personally for Wesley with his father. My parents are so much the same, it's a struggle, a pain, and a forever distance that never ends, and like she said just sad, a sad truth for some people out there.

Lorne Greene was one of the stars of Bonanza, a TV western that ran from the late 1950's to the early 1970's. Filled with brave heroes riding the land defeating the bad guys, no shades of gray, I'm sure Angel loved it.

And Lorne, which we learn so much about in this episode, is clearly dealing with feelings of shame regarding his family and home life, and being very misunderstood and not following the norm. They're all struggling to find where they belong in the world and questioning their roles in life. "Belonging" is a very appropriate title for this episode.

Great reaction as always, I enjoyed your thoughts at the end.
So glad we finally learned Lorne's name! Calling him the Host all season felt so wrong ๐. I really like how every member of Angel Investigations is challenged in this episode: Angel desiring less moral ambiguity, Wesley feeling inadequate and insecure, Cordelia feeling unworthy/disillusioned and Gunn feeling guilty over abandoning his crew.
Interestingly, the phone call with Wesley's father really knocks his confidence for the entirety of the episode. On multiple occasions he's indecisive and fumbles things because that sole conversation triggered his childhood trauma.

Just a sidenote, it's implied that Cordelia got transported to Lorne's dimension. The portal they opened using the book at the Karaoke bar at the end of the episode was to send Landock back to his dimension and Cordelia got sucked in.

Great reaction!
Spring 2001 would have been a bit into Pottermania. Goblet of Fire (book) had come out the previous year. Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone (movie) would come out later in 2001, so name dropping Harry Potter was becoming more common.
