Even worse Ben was a doctor not a nurse.

I have to ask if you were living in the United States at the time. I have seen so many people repeat this, that none of us knew at the time the Season 5 finale aired that it would be coming back for Season 6. This is NOT TRUE! We all knew (my friends, online and off, that watched BtVS) that the show was going to the UPN network, that Joss had long since made the deal before the Season 5 finale was written or filmed. And it wasn't just inside info known only to superfans online, it had been widely advertised in the mainstream media for weeks before the finale aired. But I have had commenters who lived in Europe at the time tell me that they had no knowledge of this. So were you outside the USA when you first saw it?

Ben dresses up like Glory sometimes? Is that what you're saying?

Season 5 final episodes are so good! Glad you're feeling the momentum :)

If Ben were going to sacrifice himself to save the world...well, he would've done it by now. I don't necessarily mean death. He had so many opportunities to prevent things from getting to this point that wouldn't have involved him dying, and he didn't take them because it would involve sacrificing something. When he knew that the Key was in Sunnydale and was a teenage girl, he could've waited until Glory was resting, sold some of her things to raise money for a plane ticket and flown to Australia. Glory may have superspeed, but she can't fly or teleport, so if there's an ocean between her and the Key, she'll have to fly back on a plane - this could seriously screw up her plans. He doesn't do it, because it'll mean losing his job. He knows the stakes and how little having a job will matter if the multiverse bleeds into our reality and chaos reigns on Earth, but he still doesn't do it. He stabs the minion after revealing that the Key is a person, but he doesn't finish the job because he might get arrested if he takes too long stabbing the guy, which results in Glory getting the info anyway. And for a healthcare professional, he has a shocking lack of empathy for the people Glory's brain-sucked. When he talks about them, it's all about how their presence affects *him.* They're taking up all the beds. We're overworked because of them. They're victims of Glory too, but to him, the tragedy is how much harder it's making his job. It's even what he talks about when he discusses that demon he summoned that murdered six of Glory's victims - he's bitching about having to "clean up her mess" and not remotely conflicted about summoning something that violently murdered six innocent people who were just extremely unwell. Ben selling Dawn out is pretty well set up. He's always had covertly selfish tendencies, they just used to be hidden behind his image as a kind, decent doctor.

Vibrating with excitement for the finale!

This whole season and it's running themes really cement for me why it is the best overall season. It's still not my favorite season (that would be s3), but aside from a little too much of boring Riley for a little bit, it's almost close to perfection. And this season really did feel like they were under insurmountable odds. Can't wait for the finale!

This is one of my favorite episodes of the season. I love how this episode makes the suggestion that Glory, Ben, Buffy, and Dawn are kind of going through similar things. None of them really asked to be placed in the awful situations they're in; the difference is in how they cope with it. Buffy mentally breaking down and Ben betraying Dawn being juxtaposed in the same episode is just brilliant from a writing standpoint. I also really like the title "The Weight of the World", since it sums up Buffy's journey so well. I think whatever happens in the next episode, it's pretty clear that Buffy's never going to be the same again after what she went through this season.

Back when this originally aired, the WB network had not picked it up for another season yet, so we were all on edge because we didn’t know if it was going to be the series or season finale. It’s a little different for you and other reactors because you know there are 2 more seasons. We didn’t know once it aired if it was coming back. I think it changes your mind set slightly, knowing there’s more to come. BUT, I do look forward to your reaction and all your thoughts and questions once you see it. I’m pretty sure you will get some of those same thoughts and feelings we did when it first aired. Can’t wait! -“Whitbit2281”

Cass, when you stared at the camera at the ending I FELT that!

So for some reason while watching this episode I started thinking back to what Ben said about why he wanted to be a doctor - one of the benefits he gave was using a cocktail of drugs to repress Glory, meaning, presumably, at some times in his earlier life Glory would come forth. So now I’m picturing a Veruca Salt-ian, imperious Hellgod girl ordering her parents around and demanding her minions.

Cass should record her reactions during thunderstorms more often - the thunder really provided great dramatic effect to her closing comments ⛈️

"I'll see you guys very soon." If this mean we get the season finale this week then I'm very, very happy.

slypeartree

Fun reaction, looking forward to the S5 finale and the last couple episodes of Angel S2

James Smith

I'm beginning to think Ben... might be Glory?

Jon D Arthur

oh my god, that thunder was so perfectly atmospheric for a show where the main villain is a god

Jorgalorg

Loved your reaction! Can't wait for the season finale and the last stretch of Angel episodes.

Ahmad

Will get a chance to watch this later. The Buffy-lite aspect of this episode was a result of Sarah Michelle Gellar needing to be out of the country to film the Scooby Doo movie.

James Smith

You definitely need to watch the next episode 'Previously on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer'

Mark Milwain

Yayyyyyy

So you're telling me that Ben and Glory have some sort of connection?

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth
