I'm just here for the Lindsey impersonations.

Great job picking up immediately that what happened between him and Darla was not a moment of perfect happiness. She hopes for that, but it's not what's happening. They definitely tried to lead the audience to that conclusion by recreating so much about when he lost his soul after sleeping with Buffy. And you saw through it! :) I don't feel like the scene with Wesley was intended to be super suspenseful, so much as showing Wesley's resourcefulness and ability to defend himself to a certain extent before Angel showed up. I felt the same emotions at Wesley's momentary forgetting that he wasn't supposed to be okay with Angel right now - just feeling so happy to see him, to be fighting side by side again. Then remembering and walling off his emotions again. And Cordy's little "You really hurt my feelings" </3 MY HEART I feel such conflicted emotions about Lindsey. He's one of my favorite Angel characters... falls firmly into the gray area where I like them :P lol You're absolutely right - Angel has a lot of making up to do, to his friends. It's good to see him with a humbler mindset, and willing to work FOR them for a while instead of them working for him <3

No, she wasn't. He checked her pulse and breath before taking her to the shower. ;)

Angel could enter Kate's apartment because she was dead

I think all of us want to help in some form or another. Like Angel said, the smallest act of kindness can change someone’s day, or even their life because they are fighting a battle we know nothing about. I always try to make my interactions with people positive because it’s who I am and in my mind, I believe it’s what God wants us to do. I’m never going to meet or interact with every single person in this world, but I can do what I’m able with the people I do meet. Like Angel, he’s not going to be able to save everybody or keep evil away but he can do what he can with the time he’s given. And the same should go for all of us. Make it count! Because helping someone is one of the best feelings in the world. :)

I remember watching this episode for the first time a few years ago when I was in a terrible place. I saw that scene with Angel and Kate and it just made me bawl. It felt like something I really needed to hear at the time. I really love this show.

Angel has had these thoughts before, or at least the beginnings of them. Back in Buffy 3x11 Gingerbread, when Buffy is down because her mother tells her all her efforts are fruitless ("No fruit for Buffy") because things don't really improve in Sunnydale, Angel tells her Joyce is wrong: Angel: Buffy, you know, I'm still figuring things out. There's a lot I don't understand... But I do know it's important to keep fighting. I learned that from you. Buffy Summers : But we never... Angel : We never win. Buffy Summers : Not completely. Angel : We never will. That's not why we fight. We do it 'cause there's things worth fighting for.

Let the fun begin

A great little touch is that Darla's dialogue ("Was I not good?") is exactly what Buffy said after she had sex with Angel and he disappeared. Another point of symmetry with all of the parallels. It's very true that sometimes you need to hit rock bottom before you have that moment of clarity. It's great if you can get it sooner, but here Angel really needed to see things from down in the hole. I like how this episode isn't "We hate that Angel is separated from everybody, so let's pretend it never happened and undo it". Instead it's "Let's use his separation to build his redemption and rebuild his relationships". "If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do". That's a recurring theme, and it's so true that it's crossed over into real life.

I like to think that Angel recreating the scene from when he lost his soul in Buffy S2, even though he wasn't losing his soul this time, is just Angel being very melodramatic. This is a fun episode and a fun reaction!

This is one of my favourite episodes for how it culminates and concludes all the threads of the last few episodes and opens the door to a brand new situation. This is one of the things I love about Angel as a show: it's so dynamic and constantly evolving. "If nothing we do matters, all that matters is what we do" - and there we have it: the mission statement and philosophy of the whole show. At the end of the last episode, Angel was confronted with the meaninglessness and uncaring, neverending nature of the universe and gave into nihilism. Sleeping with Darla was basically a suicide attempt. He didn't care if he lost his soul, he just wanted an end to everything. But in this episode he comes around to a more absurdist kind of thinking, in the philosophical sense: instead of getting depressed because every thing is meaningless, rejoice in this fact and find your own meaning and purpose in a purposeless world. Instead of searching for ultimate truths or universal meaning, focus on finding meaning in the small moments of everyday life. Find joy in the absurdity of existence, and embrace the beauty of the fleeting, ephemeral moments that make life worth living. "The smallest act of kindness is the greatest thing in the world". This is a great episode; it's jam-packed with so many interesting moments and character interactions. I love all the moments between Angel and the crew - awkward Angel is so much fun to watch - and watching Lindsay spiral even further out of control is always entertaining. One of the most fascinating parts for me though is the conversation with Kate in the hotel garden. "Maybe we're not alone in this...because I never invited you in" has so many interesting implications and interpretations. Did the Powers directly intervene in order to allow Angel to save Kate, and therefore set him back on his path? That's how I see it, and it's my opinion that they may have similarly intervened in Buffy 3x10 "Amends" when Angel was going to allow the sun to burn him, but a sudden weather front appeared at the last moment to prevent his death, and further back in Buffy 2x21 "Becoming: Part 1" when Whistler found Angel on the streets on unknown orders in order to shape him into a champion of good. Higher Powers of some form or another have seemingly been guiding him for years, or attempting to at least, and it's a relief to have Angel back on track.

Dang it, one of my favourite episodes and I just got to work for the day 🫤 *Terminator voice* I'll be back.
