manifesting a new episode tonight πŸ•―πŸ•―πŸ•―

Jameel / Deevak set up a meeting with Gunn in the garage to have him killed by its vampires. It was not expecting Angel, et. al., so it did the "scared Jameel" routine.

Chet Erez

Darla has come such a long way since her days on Buffy with the school girl's outfit and hairdo with bangs.

Gung Ho

They still haven't revealed what the plan is yet, but Darla has found a way to sneak into the hotel. It's not really the most secure place with all the entrance ways it has.

Gung Ho

How Darlas able to keep Angel asleep and control his dreams will be revealed very soon. Also why she's not killing him, and what the plan is coming forth.

Morgan Williams

I get why you would ship Cordy and Gunn, the same thoughts came to my mind watching this very same episode the first time.

Morgan Williams

When you say Amara you mean Alanna.

Morgan Williams

Mace is actually a brand name. Mace and Pepper Spray are different. Mace is less potent. Mace unlike Pepper Spray will not cause inflammation of the capillaries of the eyes and skin causing temporary blindness, nausea, breathing difficulties and an intense burning sensation.

Morgan Williams

My first car was an Acura, can't remember what year, early 2000s I suppose.

Morgan Williams

She's doing both shows and already did the first 3 eps of season 5. Just be patient...

Ash Lee Can

weird that it seems we're the only ones hearing this, but yeah, it's quite annoying

SPOILERS Not yet, Kate doesn't leave the show properly until after Epiphany

Jordan McLaren

If Wes had had his way while he was on Buffy, he would have handed Angel over to Balthasar so that he could keep his kneecaps! They've come so far.

Steve Quast

So Kate got a law degree and moved to New York to work in the DAs office…or the actress got a job on the original Law and Order at least

Christopher Drakulich

The demon karaoke bar is such a surreal and funny concept that I also couldn't believe they were really doing it as a regular gag! Also, this episode shows just how far Cordelia has come in caring for others and putting them first.

Mornir

I love Wes and Angel's bromance. It shows a lot of growth for both of them; they would never have been friends when they were on Buffy.

Raymond Simon

I don't ship Cordy and Gunn but I certainly don't begrudge you for doing so lol; I've also always thought their interactions in this episode were very cute, especially that final scene between them. One thing I love about this episode, even if it's not one of my favourites, is how it demonstrates just how far Cordelia has come already, and it's always good to get more insight into Gunn. I find all the Darla scenes in this episode very eerie - Julie Benz and David Boreanaz have great chemistry and there's some really cool imagery. Shout out to Andy Hallett's amazing singing voice as the Host of the karaoke bar: that man had some serious pipes on him, rest in peace πŸ’œ

One thing, I think you missed was that Jameel was Deevak all along, not Desmond. He's the guy who was Gunn's informant at the beginning. His meeting with Gunn in the garage at the beginning was meant to throw Gunn off his track. That's why he repeated the same line about "Survival of the fittest" when they were fighting at the end. Something to keep in mind is that at this point we don't yet know WHAT Wolfram & Hart wants to do to Angel. They may want him dead, but they haven't said that. Lilah, Lindsey, and Lee did hire Faith to kill him in season one, but they did that on their own instead of at the order of the Senior Partners. So as to what their Grand Plan is.... We've seen several villains in the early seasons of Buffy (Including Darla herself) who wanted to turn Angel back into Angelus and get him back on their side. We've also seen some villains who try to get Angel 'out of the way' without a focus specifically on killing him (Like the Mohra demon that turned him into a human, since Angel realized that even though he wasn't dead he could no longer fight evil the same way). W&H made a very big deal about bringing Darla back, so whatever they're doing it's probably Bigger than just "find somebody to stake him".

Shipping anyone with anyone you want is a proud Buffy/Angelverse tradition. And shipping the couple who argues well from the start only shows you are an experienced watcher of romantic comedies. I do like Cordelia announcing to Gunn that he needs protection and that's her new job. It's a very Cordelia way of doing things.

We dream about what we want. When we have scary dreams, we are still dreaming about what we want, to work something out. A scary dream is about trying to fix something that is wrong, so we create a scenario where we can examine in dreams what we cannot in reality. Of course we can end up scaring ourselves with what we create in the dream, but that is just overdoing it, and missing the point of the dream, which is to figure out why we aren't getting what we want in real life. Angel is being manipulated, but not unwillingly. He likes closeness with people, something he cannot really do well in waking life. He really is trying to move on from Buffy. And, like he got around to telling himself, he still has a lot to make up for. He desires Darla, and she knows it and is exploiting it. This show is all about moral choices, about how its hard to give up one's desires to do the right thing. Darla is the opposite argument that pleasure and selfish love is worth burning everything else down. Gunn has guilt and pride clashing, and responds by being prickly and acting rough with anyone in front of him -- he thinks that is the way out, but it is the way down. Wesely giving Angel a little joshing was nice to see. Their relationship is one of mutual respect and camaraderie, and they both need that. Black American Culture in Buffy and Angel is, well, at least they are trying. It feels more like a 1970's version of "the street" in the blacksploitation movies, a white screenwriter's idea of "the hood". But it has a nice feel to it, different than the all-white spaces of most shows. I think maybe that is what David Babbit's character is, beside just a parody of geek fanboys of D&D and pop fantasy. He is almost delusional about what is going on around him, in over his head so far he can't conceive of the danger, and sees everything from his safe suburban whitebread naive viewpoint.

Demons that can make themselves look human have appeared before (the She-Mantis and the "kids" in 'Gingerbread'); but they do seem rare (presumably because the transformation effects are expensive for a tv budget),

James Smith

All in all, this one isn't one of the great episodes, but it's not bad either. It's one in which we get to build up and know our characters a little bit more. Also, I think it's important that Gunn gets to have more interaction with Cordy and Wesley, and not just Angel. The highlights of the episode for me, though, are the scenes with Darla and Angel. I like the fact that we're now in a place in Angel where we get to see little flashes of a greater plot developing even in the one-off episodes.

Steve Quast

We've seen a few demons that are able to hide in human form. Back in The Wish episode of Buffy, Anya had a demon form when she was a vengeance demon, though she mostly chose to present as a human. In Angel, Doyle was half demon, so he could switch back and forth between demon and human. Also in episode 7 of last season, The Bachelor Party, the family of demons that Doyle's wife (or ex-wife) almost married into could look human. Even with all these examples, Deevak is still a bit of an anomaly, because his demon form is much bigger than his human form. And yeah, there's definitely something wonky about the way he looks and moves as a demon.

Steve Quast

This isn't a perfect episode but it's got some really great character stuff in it. I love the banter between Gunn and Cordelia. The two of them trying to track down Angel's car is pretty funny. It's interesting that Cordelia complains at the beginning of the episode that she has grease stains all over her new clothes - she actually complains about demon related stains a few times in Buffy too. By the end of the episode she's dirty and covered in blood. Yet this really doesn't phase her. I think it just highlights that despite her Cordelia-esque comments, she really cares about helping others.

Rebecca

Bit of noise in the edit, might be a cable interference issue or is it the mic picking up headphones or some background.

The Testimony of Mushroom

Fun fact to remember the lawyers' names - same initials: Lilah Morgan, Lindsey Mcdonald (and Lee Mercer, killed in season 1)

PT Gunn

Of Angel? For sure! It's probably my second favorite season of the entire Buffyverse after Buffy season 5.

Sophia Connolly

I certainly don't expect anyone else to co-sign this statement but Angel S2 might be my favourite season of either series. There, I said it. It's out there in the universe and I can't take it back.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

I desperately need you to be paying more attention to buffy 😭 this season is definitely the best and I just cant wait for you to meet the big bad!!!
