The Pits are a great setting, the bloodthirsty mob, the dingy, dangerous hovels, the savage opponents like Ixion, the guy who kills people and steals their faces and the Pit Boss and his great announcer skills. Spartacus pulls off the W, his relationship with Batiatus deepens and he returns to the ludus. This episode is splendid but the next one is even better.

This episode is a highlight of the season and of the series overall. Batiatus and Lucretia are a great pair together, schemers and dreamers extraordinaire. Crixus is great, Ashur is a great sidekick, Barca has presence and Varro heart. Spartacus also gets good character beats this episode struggling to keep himself alive and sane while down in the pits, the visions of Sura haunting him and augurs of doom and victory equally.

I'm glad to see you coming around on Spartacus, episode 4 is the clincher for first timers to the series. Told a great story, awesome fights, the ambience is both ghoulish and beautiful and characters are getting fleshed out.

Crixus finally showing some heart this episode. Hard situation at the end there for Batiatus. Loses everything, but still wins.

its a small scene but Varo standing up to that one dude without repeating his statement and the dude backing down, is a great scene. Shows just how much he has earn the respect of the others since Spartacus been in the pits.

why does Naevia (Maze) bother you? She's actually the one being careful and telling Crixus to not be so obvious. While Crixus constantly risks getting caught. she's the smart one out of the two of them 😂
