Early Access Dragon Ball Dissection!

GT is going through its growing pains, starting its slow shift from wacky adventure to epic fights. Its first (and weirdest) stop? It's the creepy doll cult! From a plethora of villains to an uncomfortably enthusiastic doll collector, this storyline has something for everybody! Is any of that something good? That remains to be seen. See it right now, a week early and ad-free! Thanks so much for your support. I hope you like it!

With better execution (and especially without Pan's problematic "no man will want a spoiled woman" sentiments), Dolltaki's creepiness being uncomfortably real could have worked in the same way the two gunmen's wanton violence in the Buu arc felt uncomfortably real but effective for that part of the story. Where they went wrong was playing Dolltaki's actions as both comedic and heinous. Toriyama knew to not play those two gunman for laughs given their heinous actions, the GT writers on the other hand wanted to have their cake and eat it too with a comedy villain who's actions abruptly go from comedic to uncomfortably real. They should have committed to making him either one or the other, not both.

Fair enough although I still think he designed better than Cell.

But I'm not even specifically talking about the ability to defeat Lood. I'm talking about simply having sentient, ambulatory people inside of him for all time. Even without a plan, even without Goku, even without the Para Para Brothers, Pan can hit the cell all by herself. It doesn't destroy him, but it does hurt him. It does momentarily stop him in his tracks and keep him from fighting. Clearly it's possible for an industrious person to screw some stuff up in there, and there are hundreds of them, and they have nothing but time on their hands. If I had a pair of jeans that had a compartment filled with live fire ants, they might not kill me, but I'd still think it was a design flaw that would almost certainly make my life harder than it needs to be. =P

I have to say I actually disagree about the Lord Luud design flaw thing. There are countless factors that would prevent what Goku and Pan were doing if these extreme circumstances were not present. 1.) They only found out about the weakness because Dolltaki told them. 2.) Like Goku said the entire body is red so it's not like the person on the outside could actually manage to find the heart without help from the inside 3.) the only reason Pan and the others were able to communicate with the outside and tell them all of this info was due to the fact that Paras had telepathy and even then you'd have to sync your timing. So it's not as though this weakness is so glaringly obvious.

Creepy doll antics aside, I've always kind of liked this storyline. It's more interesting to me than most of the major combat portions of GT.After recently rewatching all of DBGT, I have to say I really enjoy all the odd, off-beat stuff and find the super-villain centric combat to be a snooze. Only 50 more episodes and a TV special to go! lol
