Added 2024-06-05 15:20:25 +0000 UTCI came across a recent piece I did for Fraye's redesign! I wanted to see how I'd handle it now, and I gotta say I think I have even better ideas now than I did back then!
I designed Fraye using an older version of them so that their design didn't change too much, but also included aspects of dress designed to be attractive!
Virgil is a character that hides themselves, is silent, etc, but also had some physique aspects that had to be included! So get this right? I though, what's an animal that incorporates camoflouge in their patterns? The most distinct one for me was a moth and I'm actually very proud of that design decision!
Alek wanted more roo in their life. So I gave them more roo in their life! Gatorroo, Rootor, Gayroo... type your favorite in the comments below! At any rate, their character is playful, and friendly, so round shapes mostly, and for the playful aspect, we landed on their color scheme being based off of a mango! Pro-tip: If you want your character to feel more lively and friendly, base it off of fruit! (I look forward to all the designs that look for the ugliest fruit imaginable)
Brinke wanted a shark lady! This character is designed to be a supportive character for another character of theirs. Strong, active, outgoing, optimistic! Only an active design would do, which I've discovered is not a skill that comes to me naturally. I had to workshop this design a lot to finally land on what I did! Fortunately that final result is still pretty good and contains some of the most complex shape information I've ever included on a character design. I even had a bit of worry that I was underserving Brinke by giving them an overly busy design! But looking back now, I think it works very nicely!
