Patreon pace and payment system thoughts
Added 2015-04-20 22:31:15 +0000 UTCThe problems with completing the current FQI have made me do some thinking about realistic expectations. Because, aside from Patreon, I also work on commissions, my own projects, study and do a lot of housework/exercise, guaranteeing a certain output per month might be unwise. To cut it short, I've considered switching to Per Finished Illustration payments and cutting all reward tiers to half the price they're at. What are your opinions on this?

couldnt keep replying to chiru, but no. if it goes over your limit you're only charged for whatever limit you established, and you -do- get your reward. Unless tenk doesn't want to send it to you or something xD

2015-04-21 22:52:02 +0000 UTCMore specifically, if it goes over your limit, your pledge isn't processed and you don't get access to the content associated with your pledge level?

2015-04-21 22:35:44 +0000 UTCThe same? you select a reward lvl and assign a monthly limit and that's it. (My campaign was per-update before, Just saiyan :P)

2015-04-21 18:20:58 +0000 UTCReading what's been said here so far, it makes sense to utilize what's at everyone's disposal. Make the change to per illustration and remind them/us to set a limitation. Perhaps advice said patrons in that post/announcement that they could just set the limitation to what they otherwise would pay monthly, if that feels any easier for them.

2015-04-21 11:59:54 +0000 UTCbut you get charged once a month as well on a "per content updated" campaign D: it's the same! Same as monthly campaigns, on the first days of the month <_>

2015-04-21 07:55:30 +0000 UTCThe other patron who made chiru's argument (over skype) also specified that with monthly payment, he can make sure he has the money by the end of the month, because he knows for sure WHEN he will need his pledged money available.

2015-04-21 07:55:21 +0000 UTCthat's not completely correct. Patrons can -always-, and i emphazise the word -always-, specify how much they want to give by assigning a monthly limit. So even if they want to give 1 dollar per illustration, per month, they can do so :O! You just put as limit whatever you feel comfortable with giving per month. The worst case could be that tenk couldn't do more pics than expected and you ended paying -less-.

2015-04-21 03:49:13 +0000 UTCChirutai brings up a good point, but I prefer payment per illustration. Patreons doing it that way almost always get more appropriate money relative to the content delivered. I've supported 2 patreons in the past and then stopped, because they were doing jack shit while having pay-per-month. That said, I'm not picky and I'm currently only giving a small amount anyway.

2015-04-20 23:04:30 +0000 UTCFair point (also made by another patron)! staying monthly makes it the cost much more reliable for patrons.

2015-04-20 22:58:17 +0000 UTCFrom my point of view as a patron, the downside is that you cannot control how much you are gonna pay monthly that way. It's especially true for potential patrons who hesitate to pledge: hard for them to know if you are going to release two illustrations a month or one every two months.

2015-04-20 22:53:02 +0000 UTCAh, this would also mean a new vote after each Illustration, of course.
