Putting a clown character (Thanos) into a show like this is very difficult to balance. Clowns are usually depicted in shows and movies, with the same tone as Squid Game, as the detriment to the rest of the characters. Here he is barely an annoyance and prominently ignored by most of the other characters. Its an interesting writing strategy to make him the first death among the players fighting each other (excluding 001 killing the guy in the last game) because the death of the clown character usually doesn't come so soon in the character growth story lines. And their death is usually more effective but only like 1-2 people even care about Thanos here. But its at a point in the story where even though no one really cares about the clown, its his missing vote that people are definitely going to take more seriously. If you notice, up to this point, it would seem that the players never considered it was okay to kill each other in the living area unlike in the last season. I love how no one (except Gi-hun) even seemed to notice the forks, like no one thought twice about why did they give us forks to eat Bibimbap, a finger food, lol. Like this group isn't blood thirsty greedy but they are apathetic to people just dying in front of them, lol. Its pointing out the desensitization we let our humanity get to in favor of an idea that we have to step on others that fail to get ahead in life. Really speaks to how we have been encouraged to behave by marketing, advertising, inst-influencers and social media types. That if you're not hustling and taking what other have then you are considered a worthless loser by the upper echelon, which is a crazy idea to think they ever considered you anything else anyway, lol.
