Hozier - Unreal Unearth Album Listening Party

I feel like you are going about it the perfect way! Feel the vibe at the first couple times, then start diving into the lyrics! I can also attest that this album live is almost a religious experience 🙏

I feel like hozier is so good at helping you understand the song and the overall feeling he wants to portray with the melody even if you dont fully understand the lyrics, which actually blows my mind… Yes its a concept album surrounding dantes inferno, but i think it is also encompasses the way life and love can change us - for better or worse. I love hearing your interpretations!! There is no right answer and that is one of the best part of music! When i listen to the album in order i feel like he is so deeply stuck in this love (that feels like hell) and he slowly realizes he can survive without it and let the experience shape his life for the better. Hozier is a poet and in your own time i would highly recommend to read through the lyrics, the man has a way with words. But dont beat yourself up!! The in depth lyricism combined with his accent can make it hard to really understand without looking up lyrics, you are not alone there! LIVE SHOWS are a MUST! Hozier has a few amazing live shows on youtube, as well as Noah Kahan (highly recommend Live from Fenway! I have it recorded if you need) Shoutout to us folks that only did 2 years of college lol

the funky vocals during Eat Your Young sounds like a vocoder to me! i believe he said somewhere before its his vocals that have been pitched up and put into the vocoder or however that works. i watched him live and he has a separate special mic mixed with the vocoder thingy so when he sings normal into it it sounds like from the song

Along with the piano being a recording of Alex the entire piece was created by him. The sounds of other songs was his idea. That’s all Alex and he really killed it. It’s top 3 on the album for me.

Son of Nyx features a voice memo of piano playing at the beginning from Hozier’s bass player Alex Ryan who played it shortly after his father, Nick, passed away so it’s also a reference to “Son of Nick” as a tribute to Ryan’s dad. But Greek wise it’s Charon, son of Nyx, who ferries dead souls across the river. Both themes of death. (And yes some of the songs from the album are sampled on this track too) it’s an amazing piece

Yayyy!!!!

super excited for this one not because of the lyrics (although they’re amazing) but there’s so many incredible instrumental details in this album and you always pick up on them so fast it’s the best!
