As part of the BEEHIVE since The Writings on the Wall ...it is so amazing to see the type of art Beyonce continues to create. 2024-05-09 22:43:00 +0000 UTCyou were really spot on with your interpretation of why she put out this album!! a lot of people kind of started to write her off after the semi lackluster performance of her album 4 (even though it’s amazing and vocally was her best imo until cowboy carter) because at that point she had already been in the industry so long and after no longer working with her father, beyonce decided to finally put out the type of art she said she has always wanted to make with this darker, sexual, more personal album!! she wanted to assert that women don’t have to just be seen as mothers and wives but multi dimensional beings with sexual autonomy. i was a freshman in college when this dropped and i remember so many people in my age group learning about feminism for the first time from this album. while some of this is personal subject matter, like Heaven, speculated to be about Beyonce having a miscarriage before Blue Ivy, beyonce kind of mixes personal with what she thinks women in general should/would want to hear. this is one of my favorite albums of all time, the production and everything was just so crazy at the time and it still has such playability now! i think this also really planted the seed for what would become renaissance
