McFly - Room On The Third Floor Album Listening Party/REACTION

McFly - Room On The Third Floor Album Listening Party/REACTION

I've always thought the lyrics of Met this Girl were an intentional nod to the Beatles I saw her Standing There. Hearts booming all over the place. For me there are a few moments on RotTF that are cheesier than over ripe brie (the 'yeah loads' on She Left Me that Danny can't now deliver without giggling) but peak what were you thinking? for me will always be 'now she's got pregnant with a ba-a-aby' I mean really what else would she be pregnant with? But I can totally let those moments go because they were 17 when they wrote the album and there are loads of moments of maturity and sophistication beyond their years so I can completely forgive them the odd moment that sounds like it is lifted from a teenager's diary! I can't wait to see what you make of the rest of the album's each one has its own style whilst still being definitely McFly.

So happy you're starting McFly's discography!! You will love going through from the beginning and watching their style change and evolve. I think Room On The Third Floor might be my favourite McFly album, but they're all so much fun in their own way (even Above The Noise which a lot of people diss on!!) Can't wait for the next one!

You reacted to Danny and Tom playing not alone acoustically in a subway! You loved it then

Jennifer Clarke

Been waiting for this! ❤️ can't wait for you to do the other albums

Mel Beckerson

Proud McFly fan from Norway here!! I love your videos and your love for McFly :) ROTTF is such an EPIC first album! And they were frickin teenagers!!!! A talented group of guys for sure <3

Astrid Yirrell

they did danny and tom acoustic on power to play tour!

At some point you should react to the “Room on the 3rd Floor” documentary that Tom and Danny did. They talk more about these songs and the what writing the album was like. It is on YouTube.

In the 10th Anniversary Celebration at the Royal Albert Hall, Tom says Room on the Third Floor is the first song him and Danny ever wrote together. There is a documentary for the first album that's 38 min long called: On The Third Floor Documentary https://youtu.be/fz_t27kOfv0?si=z3O8W-pY8IcMhc7K I do have the whole 10th Anniversary at the Royal Albert Hall on my Google drive if you want to do a watch party for it.

So glad you’ve started the discography. The guys were only 16/17 at the time and Doug was 15. Tom had done musicals but the others had just been at school - there were no other prior careers! I saw them for the first time when they were supporting Busted before this album came out and I knew I was hooked.

20 years later and i’m still listening this every time i can

Ana

you have reacted to “not alone” but they always do an acoustic version live and usually just danny

lee reynolds

down by the lake is an underrated BOP! <3 btw you've heard 'not alone' before :)

Katie more or less nailed it but you were kinda right with broccoli. It’s about a guy pining after a girl who continually blows him off to “toy” with him which is more than a little messed up but disgustingly common. Also it’s good to go from earliest to newest with them because as you go on you’ll notice a lot of call backs to previous albums and even alternative POVs in later songs which you probably wouldn’t get going from newest to oldest. It’s definitely not their best work (I’m 100% a Radio:ACTIVE stan) but can’t deny it’s a dang good first album. Especially because they came straight out with this with no EPs beforehand. It’s not a surprise they blew up as much as they did

I love this album, I have always wondered how McFly got so lucky in getting to work with Hugh Padgham as their producer on the first 2 albums. the other producers they have worked with are great but having someone like Hugh who has been the producer for Paul McCartney, David Bowie and Elton John as well as so many other legends to be the first ever producer to work with them is pretty fucking special.

Kayden banford

You can't listen to this album without a big smile on your face, or without singing along. There's not one track that could be considered filler or wasted 😍

Debbie Bushby

Finally the discography!! They did Anthology which is the albums live - and ROTTF sounds so fresh. Maybe check that out.

This is such a blast from the past. 14 year old me queued up for hours to get my room on the 3rd floor single signed by them at hmv back in ‘04. I still have the photos of them somewhere, we were all so young. Great memories.

thought i would give u some context for each song (if there is any) when this album was being written / was released tom was 17 (but 18 when it released) danny and harry were 17 and dougie was 15 five colours - this song danny and tom wrote when they were obsessed with a show called As If, and obsessed with a girl on there who had loads of colours in her hair- apparently the actress who played her hates the song😂 it was their debut song and went straight in at no1 obviously- this song tom wrote about his now wife giovanna while they weren't together. they met in school and were on and off until they were 17/18.. Gi had a different boyfriend at the time but tom apparently kept talking about her to danny and then they wrote this song.. not long after they got back together - this song was one of the demos that got them the record deal when it was just tom and danny room on the third floor- the first song danny and tom wrote together. they would share a hotel room for weeks when they first met to write songs, and they would always stay in the same room on the third floor of the hotel, hence the name.. that girl- there isn't tons of context for this one but it was written when they were inspired by the beach boys .. as u can probably tell... when they play it live now they extend the solo and make it into a double solo with danny first as the one on the record and then tom has an extra part -this song was another of the demos that got them the record deal when it was just tom and danny hypnotised - not any context for this one that i know of (apart from its danny playing the harmonica) saturday night - not any context for this one that i know of - this song is so fun live! met this girl - beach boys inspired again she left me - no context that i know of for this one down by the lake - no context that i know of for this one , apart from the fact that tom wrote this with james bourne from busted unsaid things- another of the first ones tom and danny wrote together surfer babe- beach boys inspired again - this song was another of the demos that got them the record deal when it was just tom and danny not alone - this was the first song danny wrote by himself that he played tom- he used to get the train by himself from manchester down to london and go and stay with tom, which inspired some of the lyrics- it's such a beautiful song.. their vocals together on this song live give me chills everytime- they played this song on the power to play tour in 2023 and i sobbed both times i saw it🫣😂 broccoli- no context for this song that i know of personally i love this album but i think the songs are so much more fun live because they play them more like their current music and that makes them even better imo- there isn't any tour footage from this album but if u want to hear the songs live, they played them all on the anthology tour - which u can find the recordings of each song on spotify:) can't wait to see ur reactions to the rest of their albums ❤️
