I hear ya on that. I just brought it up because the question of his work came up and I kinda saw the scenarios based on his job. I got into what could happen if he suddenly left and didn't come home. What would his wife do? Do they have a plan, etc? It's a habit. Thanks for responding, man.

Well the only reason I attached that label to Fisk was because I was under the impression his career was a freelance assassin or at least part of some kind of agency that was into that kinda thing. I got the impression from the whole "they chose this path" kinda deal. I missed the part about Red describing their jobs as simple and clean, so my bad on that. Other than that, personally, I'd like to know because I'm big on details like. I've got plenty more questions as far as characters go, but I tend to not really ask because they can sometimes jump into the minutia and miss the story; not trying to ruin it for everyone else. I just thought it was important because the question of his job came up on the ask series. Figured, since it came up, I'd ask. And I wasn't trying to get all uppity; as I said, I can get really into details, hence why I don't ask too many things. But thanks for answering, Big Dog! And I like Abigail....that's your best character, imo.

I do tend to take the OL universe as partially silly and partially serious. I've often held back from turning Fisk's job into some kind of Archer-like series of adventures. In a world where his daughter builds AIs from iPads and functioning laser rifles, that kind of silliness wouldn't be entirely out of place. But I still treat his job as something more of a mystery, with less explicit detail.

In the same arc, Red described most of the jobs as simple and "clean", but only sometimes requiring what she called bad behavior. One can get into a large discussion about Fisk being a "murderer" as a label you can ascribe to anyone who kills anyone else, devoid of the context of who and why. But I don't ignore contexts. When he has to, as described, he's the part of the world that "shoots back" at those who choose to point a gun at everything good. I guess it's easy, even for a writer, to dwell on the exciting cases, and ignore the obvious bloodless (and much more common) missions which are merely mentioned in a sentence. But obviously, to them, the context of why they do what they do matters. If it doesn't matter to you, that's nice. No point in getting all uppity about it here.

Awww snap! The Man, the Myth, the Legend has replied! Freaking awesome. Well then, Mr. Naylor, could you explain what he does exactly? Maybe in another Ask Response? The only things I've ever seen about Fisk and his work is when Red talked about how Fisk said the people they killed "chose that life". Even when she offered to jump his bones on that boat scene, I think they killed people, and let's not forget the whorehouse shoot out to get his cousin. How do we we request the Ask questions anyways? And thank you for responding.

His job isn't to "kill people" but on some rare occasions he has to.

Ah...gotta be honest that sounds a lot like John Wick....which does indeed make him a murderer. That's all cool and all, but as a lady, I'd imagine Elizabeth, or at least her dad, would've been skeptical at the whole thing. This dude disappears for weeks at a time by himself or with some hot chick aka Red then claims it's "work". Even if he uses the CIA thing that's not common, not at all. He can't use Military because then he'd be at a Duty Station or would have orders, classified or not. She might wanna re-evaluate her situation before she and the kids wind up dead or she winds up a jobless, single mother. That Red shot was a nice touch, though.

Jay, you forgot to finish what Red says. "Don't drag me into this."

In a manner of speaking it's independent. But, they do tell Fisk that they're a secret government agency that makes its money through stock trading (I think) which gives it an air of legitimacy.

Govt Agency? I thought he didn't work with the U.S.? I thought his company was independent?

He was in the Army she knew that. Now he works for a government agency... who says she knows anything beyond that. He could have told her CIA.

So let me get this straight. She married a man who kills people....but she has no idea why? So for all she knows, she could've settled down with a terrorist or serial killer? Seriously?
