Mostly little things here and there. I wasn’t expecting Cecil and Marsh to say exactly the right thing at all times, but they aren’t pretending to have “common sense” that transcends all institutional knowledge. Cecil clocked that I didn’t like the homelessness (and Elon Musk) episode very much. I felt like I was bouncing between Elon Musk saying factually wrong statements based on a horrible moral system and misinterpretations of the facts, and then Cecil and Marsh were morally much better but also missing crucial facts. That sort of thing was especially annoying to me because of the political conflicts I’ve been having with my two brothers. One conflict is the myth that liberals were in a lala-land of “everything was fine under Biden,” and conservatives were supposedly observing the real world (common sense). Mostly my brothers got this impression from The Atlantic and Libs of TikTok, respectively—they aren’t really observing the world themselves. There is a big asymmetry between the scale of delusion and influence on the Left versus the Right, but I am still disappointed when Left-leaning influencers comment without the facts that the Right-leaning influencers are looking at. I disagree with the Right about what those facts mean (and a lot of their “facts” are factually false, such as children identifying as cats in classrooms), but some of the facts are real.
