I decided to support this podcast after listening to this episode on Spotify, because of a few things. First, I despise Evan Hafer, and the Black Rifle Coffee Company. I'm a vet, and work in an industry heavily populated by veterans. They all sound exactly like this fool and as a veteran who *didn't* spend their time swallowing "American exceptionalism" the military peddles as part of its whole thing... and that's why I was basically forced out after 8 years. It grates on me that I have so many people that were it not for the mindset of those like Hafer, so many of our veterans would be a force for good. Black Rifle Coffee, is also fucking terrible coffee, and no matter how many veterans I've had try and push that shit on me because "it supports veterans!" I'll always laugh and pour that shit down the drain and make a cup of Folgers right in front of them because at least it doesn't taste like shit because it makes those veterans yearn for the shit they couldn't wait to escape when they were in.

Definitely not an AI overlord

I’ve tried. I’m so sorry. I’ve tried. I want to support you guys but Rogan is so horrible I can’t deal with listening to him speak

Mockingbird Nation

I saw the live coverage of Trump saying "...very fine people, on both sides." WTAF!?

100% - this is absolutely an example of how something terrible from the right is being used to prop up something else terrible from the right.

Something of note about that clip of all of the local news clips saying the same message is that the broadcast company and the messages they require them to run are explicitly RIGHT WING. So apparently this right wing company requiring all of their channels to spread the same right wing message is proof of a vast left wing conspiracy to stifle free speech on the right.

I fucking despise Joe Rogan, what an imbecile

(Marsh here) Completely agree. It's actually a topic I've lectured on for university journalism courses (thus how I met David Clarke, who I reference in the James Fox episode). It's normal for news to pick up a news wire piece as a starting point, though things fall down when journalists then don't go on to add context and round the wire piece out into a full story. Here's a version of one of my lectures on the subject, in case you're interested! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vybfGOBvYGk -- Marsh

In relation to the news all being fed the same narrative bit of conversation. I remember the Sinclair broadcasting clip that you are talking about. But I think Joe is being intentionally even more vague in a way that now if someone hears what he said, then watches 2-3 newscast that happen to say. Feature the same Associated Press article, that bolsters in their mind, Joe's theory. As I was listening to him my first thought (as someone who works at a local TV news station) was yeah, that's an AP article we subscribe to them. And often they provide a decently written lead-in. So producers just use that language rather than take the time to write a bespoke lead-in for every national story
