Sci-Fi Film Poll!

Help pick the Sci-Fi movie we will react to!

Please feel free to suggest other options in the comments for future polls!

*NOTE: I have seen Looper, Pacific Rim, Upgrade, and Waterworld so this would only be Sam's first time watching!

I love a close poll. I voted for Gattaca, currently winning by one vote. To raise the stakes, I shall remove my support for Gattaca. Now it's tied, 92-92, and I'm a swing vote. Court me. 🗳️🙂

People who love Sunshine are somewhat evangelical about it (myself included), but I suspect fewer people have even seen it compared to the other two—it disappeared from theaters immediately. And then, among people who HAVE seen it, there's a pretty sharp divide on the film's third act. I suspect we'll get to it eventually, but I don't know what kind of poll it will ever win.

Among the more contemporary entries, I'm most surprised that Sunshine isn't proving more competitive. I would have thought audience would want Sunshine more than either Gattaca or Her.

Primer is such a brilliant film thats perfect for a reaction and discussion, a shame not many people have heard of it or seen it

Charles Davies

If not for this sci-fi poll, it would also work for a foreign film poll, but ANIARA is a fantastic film.

Back when it was still new, I fell asleep watching Samurai Jack on Toonami, and when I woke up around 2am, the TV was still on, but it was the ending of Akira and I had never seen such anime in my life. It took me years to finally figure out the name of it and it's been my favorite anime film since.

This is one of those polls where I had to be honest and vote for, I think 7 different movies on the list. But Gattaca is winning at the moment and I love that, it's really a favorite of mine and I think an underrated classic. But it's all wins this category.

Solaris is an incredible movie, but it's a deep philosophical movie, not a "pew pew" gun fights with lasers movie. It's in Russian, so the subtitles are important. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for both Repo Man and Brazil! They are wonderful! I suppose Trip to the Moon (1902) is really the first sci-fi movie, but Metropolis is part of the beginning of sci-fi cinema, and it's a masterpiece.

I suggest these films, 1975 (Rollerball) Sci-Fi / Sport, 1984 (The Philadelphia Experiment)Sci-Fi / Thriller, 1972 (Silent Running) Sci-Fi / Adventure, 1973 (Westworld) Sci-Fi / Western & 1980 (Flash Gotdon) Sci-Fi / Fantasy.

Please, no Repo Man.. will give me PTSD from my past.... Kidding. Flight of the Navigator FTW!

Thank you to let us choose more than one film, because picking only one would have been terrible.

Had to put one of my votes for Akira. I first saw it in 88 or 89 at the Balboa Cinema in Newport Beach. I was already kinda into anime, but I saw this and thought my head was about to explode. I became a huge anime fan for about the next 20 years
