Three Days of the Condor (1975) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

This movie came out the same year as The Exorcist so that's what Max Von Sydow (Joubert) looked like without the old age make-up that transformed him into Father Merrin. Sydow was also Lamar (Tom Cruise's boss) in Minority Report. One of the greatest actor of all time. Effortlessly charming and sinister on screen.
Director Sydney Pollack did another fun paranoia filled thriller in 1990 called The Firm with Tom Cruise and Gene Hackman. It has a pretty incredible supporting cast. Pollack also acted occasionally, he was Ziegler in Eyes Wide Shut (Cruise again!)
And yeah, the love scene was totally unnecessary and weird. Them learning to trust each other was enough. It was jarring because it's not a sexy movie at all. The whole thing felt forced in a very Hollywood way that the movie was not up to that point.

It's been a long time since I've seen this. The love scene feels like something that would be a producer's note. "We got two of the biggest stars in the business in this picture! We gotta put them together!"
The final scene between Redford and Max Von Sydow got spoofed in an episode of Seinfeld. Kramer gets into a feud with the US Postal Service and Neuman gives Kramer the warning speech about a close friend offering to give him a lift... and then he immediately offers him a lift. I saw that episode way before I ever saw this movie so I didn't realize it was a spoof for years.

What a terrific cast in this film. Everyone was so good in their roles. And it was great to see Max von Sydow as Joubert. I once asked a very experienced movie maker, "who was the best actor ever?" He said, "you mean besides Max von Sydow?"

I enjoyed watching this again with you guys. I had forgotten how much the Trade Center was featured, both exterior and interior. The 70s brought us a lot great movies, and hopefully you’ll get around to many more as time passes.

In a similar conspiracy genre, Blow Out(1981) and Pelican Brief (1993).

So earlier this year I watched HBO reactions from reactors in Europe that were watching versions with a different playback speed. If you go into a chrome browser and go into the developer tools, there is a command that will increase or decrease thatplayback speed. It may be worth checking out (pasting from Google):
Using DevTools, you can execute JavaScript commands in the Console to adjust video speed:
Right-click on the video and select "Inspect" or press Ctrl + Shift + I to open DevTools.
Click on the "Console" tab.
To speed up the video, use the command document.querySelector('video').playbackRate = 2; (or any number you wish to set). To slow it down, just set it to a lower number (like 0.5).
It was a pain to do for every video, but it did work like a charm.

i love your videos, too bad that NTFS and PAL sync makes it not really possible to watch them in sync with the movies from Europe. Not really you problem, but i could not yet find a youtube playback speed setting that kept it in sync. Will keep trying though
EDIT: sometimes hard to know where you exactly are when there is no still frame to sync with

Another paranoid/conspiracy/ action 70's movie check out "Capricorn One". The government/NASA people try to cover up a fake landing on Mars.

Love this movie. Straight out of the "Paranoia 70s" era Nobody can be trusted- there's a hidden conspiracy behind it all... Similar movies in this vain you might like are Marathon Man (1976) with Dustin Hoffman (Redford's co-star in All the President's Men) and The Parallax View (1974), with Warren Beatty (and the same director as "All the President's Men""). There are a few rough edges in this movie-- yeah the love scene was more than a little cringeworthy, and there are some things that don't make sense (Like how can someone so well read and who used to work for the phone company need to ask the operator the area code for Washington D.C??), but they don't take away from the overall enjoyment of the movie. And the plot generally drives the movie rather than one action scene or shootout or car chase after another, which I like
I don't think Faye Dunaway ever worked with Redford again, but other movies of hers I recommend are Network (1976) (My usual spinwheel choice), Bonnie and Clyde (1976) , The Eyes of Laura Mars(1978). And of course there's Mommie Dearest (1981) - the movie that probably killed her career. Say what you will about it, good or bad, it's memorable.
Oh, and "We're walking here!!"" Not sure if you know where that line comes from, but in case you don't , I also recommend "Midnight Cowboy (1969)".

There's a weird line about how Joe Turner is so competent because he reads everything. I read a lot and I would have been dead ten minutes after the opening credits. 🤷🏻♂️😂

Conspiracies abound!
But in actuality, it just won the memorial Redford poll on both channels, probably with significant voter crossover.

This was my comment in the chat when we began discussing Three Days of the Condor: "I'm no prude, but Condor has one of the most unnecessary and klunky sex scenes of any movie ever. That aside, I love it."
Glad that seems to be a common takeaway.

Also, since you've got a solo Redford with this one, time to mention again that The Hudsucker Proxy (1994) is one of my favorite Coen brothers films, which co-stars Paul Newman, and which also takes place on and around New Year's Eve.

Even though several of my channels have done the series in the past few years, I never get tired of watching the Mission: Impossible movies. When I first saw this, I was immediately struck by how obvious it is that a key opening scene in the first movie is essentially a homage to the beginning of this film. Later in the series, in the fifth film, writer/director Christopher McQuarrie throws in another brief visual homage as well, as well as tributes to another great '70s thriller, The Parallax View (1974), which was directed by Alan J. Pakula (All the President's Men).

It happens to me too. People on Reddit have figured out it has something to do with your IP address and YouTube trying to cut down on bot views. If you have a VPN on, turn it off. If you're browsing without one, maybe get one?

So that's Robert Redford as a young spy. Now watch Spy Game - Robert Redford as an old spy. Plus Brad Pitt as a bonus.

The sound track is EXACTLY what was meant for "funky" in its original incarnation. Now it's just become a term thrown around at random.
