2023-06-24 19:01:10 +0000 UTCI didn't see E.T. in the theaters for some reason (I was 8 and would've been the ideal age), but I did see it when the VHS was released in 1988 and didn't find it as wonderful as I'd been led to believe. Kinda slow, actually? After decades of not revisiting it, I tried it again as a full grown adult and, apart from loving how natural the acting from all the kids was, I still found it paced more leisurely than any other "kids film" I've ever watched. That obviously didn't stop most other people my age from loving the hell out of it, but I think I was expecting something different. (As an adult, I knew the variety of modes Spielberg works in, so I recognized what he was doing here...I just wanted more, I guess.)

I fell asleep after the first half hour. I didn’t see it all the way through until years later. You’ll love it. It’s a classic.
