I think it’s amazing what tone will do from scene to scene because for pretty much the entire series Butcher being as asshole as played for laughs but in the dream his dad is basically the same character as Butcher but it is played as cruel, he’s horrible.

The scene with MM and Todd(?) where Todd's like "Read something other than the establishment media" which really has nothing to do with "sides." That's what people that think for themselves tell people even when it has nothing to do with politics. In 2007 when Live Free or Die Hard came out I said the scene where Justin Long rants to Bruce Willis about "The news [being] completely manipulated....to keep you living in fear," was probably done on purpose to make fun of people who say things like that so that people will take them less seriously. This was before "woke" was a thing and before the term conspiracy theorist was a common response to an argument. In fact, a co-worker of mine said the exact same thing in fact he embodies Justin Long's character saying that rant and he's actually on the side who hates the people that Homelander, Stormfront etc. represent in the real world. The most subtle is in the scene where the Hollywood mogul is talking about Soldier Boy "America has to be the hero. So they brush all their atrocities under the carpet" I can't remember the exact quote after but basically implying that America makes up stuff to be the hero. Anti-American propaganda that fuels the "America are the real terrorists/evil/etc. in the world" that started in the 2000s with teens and college students sympathizing with terrorists who claim that America are the real terrorists and the terrorists are really freedom fighters who are the ones who are truly noble in the wake of 9/11. Like people that strap bombs to their chest are heroes. And stuff like this really has an affect on culture. We're watching it all go down now where it's actually controversial to fly the American flag.
