Thriller/Crime Movie Poll!

Help pick the Thriller/Crime movie we will react to!

Please feel free to suggest other options in the comments for future polls!

Comments

It truly is, but I fear they’ll never do it because a) it won’t get the poll votes, and b) it won’t get the clicks after the fact. Such a shame.

Jarrod Hornbeck

Blow Out's dynamite.

Neal Romanek

Maybe a double watch? On the other polls as well where it was/is tight, but in particular this one. American Psycho is just such a great film. It's more of a black comedy than anything, think you'd find it really funny.

Shehab Dawoud

Prisoners is amazing. And Michael Clayton is one of my all time favorites.

Ed R

It would definitely be in your best interest (since you just watched The Untouchables) to check out Brian De Palma’s 1981 thriller ‘Blow Out.’ It is a truly terrific, exciting, surprising film, and I’m willing to bet you (and many viewers) have not heard of it. It has the hallmarks of a great De Palma movie: incredibly conceived and executed shots, insane tension and suspense, and a touch of the macabre. It also features John Travolta’s best dramatic performance and a memorable Pino Donnagio score. Sure, it may not rake in the views like some other popular titles would, but I feel like it would be a truly rewarding watch.

Jarrod Hornbeck

I love American Psycho, but I am glad to see Memento win here, because I think it is a far more interesting movie overall.

Vwlss Nvwls

Same here. its a great movie that I feel is on almost no-one's radar. Honestly its the most intense movie on this list imo. I discovered it by accident myself and was surprised to learn it was directed by Denis Villeneuve. Really great performances by Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Viola Davis, Maria Bello, Terrence Howard, Melissa Leo and Paul Dano. Pretty stacked cast and even the small roles are well acted.

Ed R

Really sad to see Prisoners lagging. I suspect its because it slipped under the radar on release. Ill keep championing for it!

ron clint

Hey, do you think you all will ever get back into the films of David Lynch, or was Mulholland Drive just too much? These are four of my favorite Lynch films, ranked in order from least f*cked up to the most. The Elephant Man Wild At Heart Lost Highway Eraserhead But I still and always will most recommend one watch his “Twin Peaks” television series and film.

Nick of Time

"oh my god... it even has a watermark..."

Byron Easley

I’m glad Memento is winning, but I do hope the strong showing of support American Psycho is getting will result in it too getting a reaction! 😁

Nick of Time

Yes! We Own The Night is incredible.

Domino

Cuckoos Nest a crime thriller?....

ron clint

They really need to pay attention closely because it is not a chronological order film.

Scott Kerr

Dude, The Game had so many twists that my head was doing spins over and over again for the rest of the night after I saw that movie! AMAZING MOVIE!

Scott Kerr

To be fair, even though I voted for another movie, Vertigo is a VERY good movie. I hope it is on future polls.

Scott Kerr

"The Flock" is a suggestion for a future poll along these lines. Also "Arbitrage".

Ed R

My suggestions for Crime/Thriller would be ‘To Live and Die in LA’(I think the Schmitt’s will get a kick out of title)Since they recently watched The Untouchables, how about another Brian DePalma classic ‘Blowout’.

Mark M

Same. I'm not sure that movie fits here.

Ed R

There are many good films on this list. I know Prisoners will probably not win but damn that is a very underrated movie. If people haven't seen it they should. It's pretty intense, complex, and well acted. It kept me guessing right up till the end and a re-watch revealed a few things I missed the first time.

Ed R

The Game and Falling Down! A Michael Douglas run at some point would be welcome.

Future Boy

I love The Game. Can't wait for a reaction one day. If they watched it the same week as Memento, I think we could actually witness brains melting!

Future Boy

Oh man, yes Judgment Night! Hoping they get to some Emilio. Young Guns never wins a poll lol

Jonathan Patrick

Blown Away will be a fun reaction one day. It was directed by Stephen Hopkins, who had a great little run in the 90s. He made Predator 2, Blown Away, and one of my all-time favourite lesser-known films, Judgment Night!

Future Boy

Awesome US Movies has a reaction to The Game: https://youtu.be/QT6wotwXmKs

Donna Castellano

Yeah I was thinking the same. But I remember the Octokrool guys watching it, thinking it was s straight comedy. Their realization it was way more than what they thought it was was pretty funny itself tho.

Donna Castellano

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest is kind of a weird pick for this poll I think, I mean it's vaguely crime related because the main character is technically a criminal and definitely a rebel, but it's not a thriller and there's not really any focus on crime per se, it's more a social commentary on the hypocrisy of the mental health system in America.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Also 1993s Falling Down, my 2nd favorite Michael Douglas movie

mikethemotormouth

I saw Mad Dog and Glory in theaters in '93. Thought it was ok. Didn't realize Richard Price wrote it, I should revisit.

Birdie Num Num

Where do you get your lists? I doubt anyone who has seen Cuckoo's Nest considers it a crime film, its not really even a borderline "crime" film. And it's a pretty famous film, it swept the Oscars, so that is pretty bizarre. IMDB lists it as a Drama. Wikipedia lists it as 'psychological comedy drama.' No offense but any list that considers it as a crime film is probably a bad list.

Birdie Num Num

Yeah a Coen Brothers trips perfect, Sam :)

PIG

I’m really glad Momento is winning. It’s not just a great puzzle, it’s also incredible filmmaking

PIG

Yeah, The Game is fun, I’ll third that. I would say Dead Man Walking would be behind that, even though it’s still an excellent movie.

PIG

We Own The Night (2007) Mark Wahlberg, Joaquin Phoenix

Jonathan Patrick

Yes!! I Vote also for "The Game" !!! Great Michael Douglas

Florian Meier

The Game (1997) Dead Man Walking (1995)

Domino

I second this! I love both of those movies!

Michael Buhl

Wipelash is a great thriller imo

Tony Gallups

So many great films on this poll. Watch 'em all! I do favor crime movies more than foreign films or comedies. I really like half the films here. Too bad the Hitchcock classics get overshadowed in these situations. Vertigo is Hitchcock's masterpiece. Hitchcock would have wished he made Memento, a modern classic. American Psycho I don't care for at all.

Mike LL

Headhunters. Amazing Norwegian Film, has the actor who plays Jamie in GOT

Drzergberg

Haha I promise it's on recommended "Crime Movie" lists! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I think we might just need to take a Coen Brothers trip! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

We loved Sicario! Unfortunately, we've both already seen it, so we can't do a reaction for the channel :( Thanks for the other recommendation! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

12 Angry Men is coming :) -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Thanks for the feedback! I promise these are coming from "Top Thriller" and "Top Crime" lists because we haven't seen these films haha -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I'd say Mad Dog and Glory is more of a comedy. But it doesn't really matter cause it's evident that NOBODY has seen it :( If you end up going through De Niro's movies, at some point, maybe you guys could watch it then.

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

If TBR and Sam don't have it for next poll, I'd suggest "Gerald's Game", Which I'm sure many others have suggested either for Mike Flanagan movies or as a psychological horror thriller.

Guston Zimasheen

I have suggested they go through the Coens chronologically like Tarantino so we don't have to wait for films like Jackie Brown and Miller's Crossing to win polls.

Tyler Foster

"Miller's Crossing"... A Coen Brothers gangster movie. 'Nuff said. Hopefully you get to this one eventually because people are sleeping on the votes this round. 😢

Mr. Writhms

How did "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" get on the Thriller/Crime list??? There's a little bit of crime in it, but it's a drama. (It's a great movie, by the way.)

Michael Buhl

When you're ready for another HBO mini-series, I'd like to suggest "The Night Of" (2016). Since you love crime investigations and mystery, this will be perfect for you.

Michael Chavira

What Gerald said x 10 😀

Michael Soukup

This is My Favorite Poll of These 3 but I Hope you make in future a Clint Eastwood Poll ;) He has so Many Great Movies, and I love the Actor Polls !!! Also a Century Poll is a good Idea ... 60's Poll or 70's Poll ... For Example "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" is such a Jack Nicholson Masterpiece, but always this movie make's nr 2 or 3 in the polls against Movies from the 80's or 90's ...

Florian Meier

Yesss!! THE GAME seems to be one of those lost gems that nobody has reacted to yet! And I highly recommend having a quality surround/Atmos sound system to appreciate it. Same for WHAT LIES BENEATH 2000. An excellent blend of crime thriller/spooky Harrison Ford flick. But save that one for October! Lol

Gerald Corona

Dude!! I back up every single thing you said!

Gerald Corona

Well. Looks like I picked another looser! MILLER'S CROSSING (1990). LOL. But if you want to take a trip through the Cohen Bros. filmography, MILLER'S is a must watch. It has a stacked cast, intricate plot (twists), amazing/quotable duologue, quirky characters and a nice, satisfying ending. Hope you guys react to it someday.

Gerald Corona

Since Denis Villeneuve's Prisoners is on the list I'd like to nominate his crime thriller "Sicario" (2015) for a future poll; it stars Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, Benicio Del Toro Also Tony Gilroy's criminally overlooked "Michael Clayton" (2007) starring George Clooney, Tilda Swinton & Tom Wilkinson

Richard Akhtar-Dobson

Woot! Love The Machinist! Hopefully it wins at some point!

Nicotti

As much as Cuckoo's Nest is a must watch, it does not belong in this poll

mikethemotormouth

Gah was really hoping to see The Game on here!

Johan Pacheco

Oh yeah, 100% backing you up for 12 Angry Men. Excellent suggestion.

Trepanation21

Just saw the kick you got from watching 'A Few Good Men' and would recommend '12 Angry Men' (1957) if it can be considered "Crime" - it's certainly "Thrilling". Not exactly a court-room drama - more like jury-room - it has a stacked cast (for those of a certain age). If classic era is not your thing, then I recommend 'Ronin' (1998), or maybe the Bourne Trilogy movies (I like car chases).

Dean A

Yeah Cuckoo is more like a drama, still recommended. What I had liked to see on this poll is The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974)

Marcus Laubner

TBR & Sam: I concur with Timo, both of those films are excellent but have no real correlation to be placed in the THRILLER/CRIME poll.

Cody Downs

I don't think Cuckoo's Nest and Man Dog and Glory really fit this poll.

Timo Alho

Totally agree. Prisoners is an absolute classic that needs to be seen by more people.

Garry L

I favor the Hitchcocks…but I’m not sure I’d categorize most of this list (at least the ones I’ve seen) as “thriller/crime.” For alternatives: “RED,” starring Bruce Willis and Mary-Louise Parker (although maybe you’d call it more “action” than “thriller/crime”); “The Italian Job” remake, starring Mark Wahlberg, Edward Norton, and Charlize Theron; or “Double Jeopardy,” starring Ashley Judd and Tommy Lee Jones.

Bob Bittner

Memento is great, but I really hope you guys do Prisoners sometime as well. It's *so* tense and masterfully crafted!!!

Colin Thomas Nichols

Memento is a masterpiece in how it's crafted.

Reed James

Prisoners is in my opinion one of the best thrillers to come out of the last decade. I'm predicting Memento will take the win, as it should, but hopefully you get to Prisoners sometime in the future!

John Sutherland

Again, all greats.

Smooticus

I will be stunned if MEMENTO loses

Jason Dolan

Mystic River (2003) by Clint Eastwood Sleepers (1996) Brad Pitt, DeNiro Blown Away (1994) Jeff Bridges, Tommy Lee Jones My recommendations

Jonathan Patrick

"Do you like Phil Collins?"
