Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

My rank for best to worst is: 1) Die Hard With A Vengeance 2) Die Hard 3) Die Hard 2 Die Harder 4) Live Free Or Die Hard. 'A Good Day To Die Hard' is not terrible but the franchise could have done without.

Duarte Dunn

If I had to rank the Die Hard films it would be... Die Hard, Die Hard With A Vengeance, Die Hard 2, Live Free Or Die Hard. I still haven't gotten around to watching the fifth one but I haven't heard anything good about that one so we'll just skip that. I hope you will get around to watching Live Free Or Die Hard so Sam can see it, it's not as bad as its reputation suggests.

OMG, NO! I forgot to say that. Again!! No, no, no, don't watch Speed 2, guys. If you do Speed, don't touch the sequel with a ten foot keyboard. Sorry, but I have literally seen the sequel ruin the first film for a reactor. A group of reactors did it a few months ago, and when I recommended it, I didn't tell them not to do 2. They ended up watching both in one reaction, and it brought the whole thing down in a major way. I was left feeling that if I had only said not to watch 2, that would have never happened. It's universally hated for a reason. Yeah, no. Just don't. LMAO

Raven Dark

Yeah I think they need to do Speed. No need to do Speed 2. The only thing that's cool about Speed 2 is the subtitle "Cruise Control." But being that I just said that I probably should watch it again to see. I don't remember anything about it really, but usually that's for a reason with something I love so much as Speed :)

Alex

Ohh, I just saw this! Yay! I gotta ask, how have you guys not done the movie Speed? It's the perfect action film for you guys. You'd love it. I hope to see it from you soon.

Raven Dark

Good call. For some reason I thought bin Laden was behind both bombings but it was planned by a group of terrorists including Ramzi Yousef, Mahmud Abouhalima, Mohammad Salameh, Nidal A. Ayyad, Abdul Rahman Yasin, and Ahmed Ajaj. They received financing from Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Yousef's uncle. So I learned something today. Yeah I know all the other conspiracy theories. I do have friends who were at the Pentagon and it WAS hit by a plane and I had a friend who lived in Wall Street who saw the second plane go in, so also definitely a plane. But yes, lots of conspiracy theories. We can discuss that when they get around to watching that Julia Roberts Mel Gibson movie!

Jason Dolan

Tony Scott also directed the fantastic “True Romance”, which Quentin Tarantino wrote. Tarantino originally wrote “True Romance” and “Natural Born Killers” (which Oliver Stone later directed) as one big piece, but decided to cut it in half and sell the two separately to make more money for him to make “Reservoir Dogs” with.

Nick of Time

I'm on the same page as you with all 5 of them.

Mike Tocci

My favorite Die Hard film! First is a classic, second one is good, the fourth is really good too. Fifth isn't even a real DH movie, awful

Ken Veader

I once saw a wall of water like in the tunnel scene when I was a kid. There were flash flood warnings in Tucson, AZ after a big rain fall. My friend and I went down to a wash that we always play in because we figured it would be filled with water, but there was no water. Then we looked to the side and there was this wall of water, with garbage and plants just stuck in it like cement, coming right at us. We got out in time, obviously, but I will never forget how that looked, and it was a lot like in this movie. :D

Vwlss Nvwls

In the elevator scene, I love how they gave John subtle clues before he noticed the badge to put it all together. The guard says "dogs and cats" and "lift", two things that any American would not have said. Then he sees the badge and it all clicks.

Vwlss Nvwls

I love all the Die Hard movies, but this is possibly my favorite one. I think the original is the best of the series, but only because of it's sentimental feeling and how it redefined action movies. All the acting this was so well done, every character felt like they had been fleshed out for years. I love Jeremy Irons as a villain, and I find myself quoting the scene when he walks up to the hole to the subway and says "somebody had fun". Great, great movie, and I assume the 18+ rating is because of it's bloodiness. Also, interesting choice leaving the sign visible on YouTube version... kind of wonder if you will be reuploading because of this. :)

Vwlss Nvwls

Finally got to finish watching this reaction and it's one of your best. I laughed the whole time with y'all lol When y'all first mentioned that y'all would be reacting to this movie I mentioned the great chemistry between Bruce and Jackson and said they could still literally join up again for a new Die Hard. But then the recent news about Bruce totally killed that dream. So sad. This is my absolute favorite Die Hard. No doubt being rated R gave it the freedom to be all it could be. The new ones are ok but going away from R to me just isn't Die Hard. With story, directing, acting etc they just don't make em like the old ones anymore. Cool story btw, after this movie came out I won a trivia question contest on the radio about it. The prize was free tickets to the opening of the movie memoribilia restaurant Planet Hollywood that was coming to my city (San Antonio). It was a dream come true. The question was who wrote the movie and I called in, got it right. Omg I was going crazy bc those Planet Hollywood openings were huge , celebs from all over would come out. And it was owned by Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Sylvester Stallone. I took my little brother with me. To be honest the one I wanted to meet the most was Jean Claude Van Damme but unfortunately he didn't go to this one. But I met Stallone, shook his hand, met Bruce Willis and his then partner Demi Moore. I met and shook hands with so many celebs it was crazy. I just couldn't believe I met ROCKY. Then to make the night even more unforgettable I was front row just a few feet away from Bruce Willis and the beautiful Demi Moore all night bc Bruce performed with with his band, and he's good. Demi danced all night on stage next to him. I was a teen totally in love Demi was wearing a tight black SEE THROUGH TOP not kidding lol. 😍🤣🤣🤣 Seriously one of best nights of my life. I could never afford to eat there but I again won tickets to eat dinner there to watch the Oscars at a later date. And guess what. That very dirty dingy outfit Bruce wears in Die Hard with a Vengeance was right there in a glass case on display. So cool. Sorry for the long story. Definitely a highlight in my life. God bless you Bruce. Thanks for bringing my childhood so much joy. Another great movie about explosives BTW is Blown Away starring Tommy Lee Jones and Jeff Bridges. It got overlooked at the time bc Speed came out right before it. But it's a good one, better than Speed in my opinion.

Jonathan Patrick

One of the greatest action movies ever made. Best of the Die hards.

Aaron Barlow

Bruce Willis definitely has quite a few good action movies where he pairs up with an "unlikely partner" type, he seems to be doing better when the action is not focused on him 100% of the time You can check out "The Last Boyscout" (1991) with Damon Wayans - really good popcorn action flick and good chemistry between the two actors. Story is not too bad either. Also, it was directed by Tony Scott, the brother of Ridley Scott, and he had some amazing action films in his time, including "Top Gun" and "True Romance"

Alec S

The jug puzzle is a common theme in RPG games too. Skyrim had a similar puzzle. 1. fill the 5 gallon jug and pour it into the 3 gallon leaving 2 gallons in the 5 jug. 2. Empty the 3 gallon and pour the 2 gallons into the 3 gallon leaving one gallon of empty space. 3.fill the 5 gallon jug and pour into the 3 gallon which will leave 4 gallons in the 5 jug.

Aaron Barlow

Yes The Last Boy Scout is awesome if you want Bruce Willis in his prime with his memorable one liners.

Anakin Starkiller

I Think Bruce Willis make the Last 10 years many bad Movies (like Nicolas Cage) ... So you have to check his Great movies from the 90's and early 2000's ..."The Last Boy Scout" from 1991 is Great, "Striking Distance" from 1993 With Sarah Jessica Parker is one of my Favorites ... "Colour of Night" from 1994 is a good Thriller and "Last Man Standing" from 1996 is good!!!

Florian Meier

Great Reaction !!! Loved Samuel L.Jackson in this Movie !!! Die Hard 4 is also good but Please Don't watch Die Hard 5(Really Really Bad) ... After The Die Hard Series you really have to watch all 4 Lethal Weapon Movies !!! For me the best Action Comedy Movies Ever !!!

Florian Meier

Great reaction! Great movie!

Philip Alan

I'm glad you both loved this one. It's my favorite of the series. I actually enjoy 4 a lot as well. I don't like to sour you on something you haven't seen, but Die Hard 5 is one of three films I almost walked out of the theatre on. In fact, I've never watched it again. I definitely will watch it again if you react to it tho. When a special edition DVD for this came out, they had a lot of extras. One was about how they did the subway explosion. It was all on a set and the extras were in real danger, from the sliding train car. All stunt people who had to be 200% focused when they shot it. It was also discussed how this was a script that was repurposed into a Die Hard story. It was an original screenplay called Simon Says. Lastly, this movie had a different ending to it. I think the studio wanted something more immediate and grand, so that's where you got the pill bottle leading McClane to Canada. Here's the original ending that was shot. It was one of the extras included in that special edition DVD. https://youtu.be/ORUuDiIB5Wk

Donna Castellano

Also if you notice Simon didn't say "Simon says" when he said there's a bomb in a school.

Alex

Hostage is pretty good. I think it's a bit underrated.

Scott Kerr

Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson were in Pulp Fiction together, though they didn't have any actual scenes together that I can remember, but it's still a great movie to watch. The jug thing you fill the 5 gallon one up and then use it to fill the 3 gallon one, leaving 2 gallons in the 5 gallon one, you pour out the 3 gallon one and pour the 2 gallons from the 5 gallon one into the 3 gallon one, then you fill up the 5 gallon one, and then fill up the rest of the 3 gallon one which has 1 gallon space left, and you're left with 4 gallons in the 5 gallon jug.

Alex

Unbreakable is great!

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

Great reaction as always!! The 90s movies is great..on the top of my head , there is " Unbreakable" with Willis and jackson..mayybe there is others..But please check out " The Last Boyscout" thats one of my favorite Willis movies

Roy Skodjevåg

Great reaction as always! I think what makes this sequel work so well was that it broke free from the 80s/early 90s action-sequel mold of just repeating the same beats from the first movie in a slightly different location. A lot of sequels in that golden age suffered from that creative restriction. Die Hard 2, as an example, while fun and great, has a lot of the same beats/jokes/plot points as the first film because the studios didn't want to tamper too much with success. But in the third one, they broke the whole thing wide open. Seeing McClane work with a partner instead of as a solo act (or near solo act, respect to Al Powel) on the streets of NYC instead of confined to an airport or skyscraper was kind of a huge gamble from a movie-making standpoint at the time. But it really works for me and is right there with the original in terms of my favorite of the series. A lot of great movies have been recommended in this thread all ready (Shane Black deserves his own "series" of reactions, not just to films he directs, also the ones he wrote as he really re-defined this genre at the time) - but in honor of Bruce, I'd say Hudson Hawk should be next. It's not his best movie, but it was his baby. He wrote, produced, starred in it. He banked a big chunk of his career success to date to get it made. And it's NUTS - in the best way. It's a love-letter to himself, part comedy, part action, part musical, and all Bruce.

Greg

I think it was a joke about her influence over her husband/then president (#42) and the fact everyone (back in 1995-1996) knew she wanted to run herself one day.

Greg

Man, that was a lot better than I remember it being. The shootout in the elevator was bad ass! Another great reaction, guys. I love Jeremy Irons. One of my favourites of his, Margin Call, is super underrated and definitely worth a watch!

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

Was going to comment the very same thing, there is 2 beloved Christmas action movies, they have done Die Hard,so they are set up perfectly to watch "The Long Kiss Goodnight" (1996). at Christmas

Duncan

I've seen a live demonstration of those..pretty cool piece of engineering..

24fps_

And I don't get that Hilary Clinton joke at all! Haha, was she a bad driver or something? I don't remember that story. Maybe Ted Kennedy would have made more sense.

Jason Dolan

Wonderful reaction guys. Bruce Willis and Samuel L Jackson are brilliant in the lead roles in this movie. I would also argue a lot of credit should go to John McTiernan, imo one of the best action directors of the 80s and 90's. Director of Predator, Die Hard, The Hunt for Red October and Die Hard with a Vengeance among others....definitely no one trick pony.

Trader Joe

The thing Dan called a straight up tank was actually a Bridge Layer - Covergirl drove one of those in the 80s GIJOE cartoon and toyline. I forgot that was in this - I think it's the only time I've ever seen one in a movie, but google GIJOE Bridge Layer Covergirl to see what I'm talking about.

Jason Dolan

It was eerie to see them referencing the first time Osama bin Laden bombed the World Trade Center in 93

Jason Dolan

Wow, that "I'm gonna marry Donald Trump" line didn't age well, ahahahaha

Jason Dolan

Yes!! I love this movie !! I hope they watch it on christmas !!

Florian Meier

So many good Bruce Willis movies to check out. Here are some movies I think you haven't seen: DEATH BECOMES HER LOOPER UNBREAKABLE (watch SPLIT & GLASS as well) SINY CITY ARMAGEDDON THE FIFTH ELEMENT THE SIXTH SENSE HUDSON HAWK

Jason Dolan

Yes! Also written by Shane Black -- funny as hell!

Steven Montano

Another great action movie with Sam Jackson, teamed up with Geena Davis is "The Long Kiss Goodnight" (1996). There was great chemistry there too.

Mr. Writhms

Great reaction! I'm glad you guys loved this one -- this is undoubtedly one that stood out for me. The chemistry between Willis and Jackson is fantastic, the one-liners are terrific, and I love how this movie still felt like a Die Hard movie without just rehashing the style of the first two films. The water thing has already been explained, but here’s my version (there’s a similar riddle about cooking a hard-boiled egg for exactly four minutes using only a 3-minute and a 5-minute timer, which is where I learned the solution…) 1) Fill the 5 gallon jug and dump it into the 3 gallon jug. This leaves 2 gallons in the 5 gallon jug. Save that. 2) Empty the 3 gallon jug, and then pour the 2 gallons from the five gallon jug into the 3 gallon jug...this leaves 2 gallons in the 3-gallon jug and nothing in the 5 gallon jug. 3) Now fill up the 5-gallon jug all of the way, and then pour as much as you can from it into the 3 gallon jug (which is just 1 gallon). This will leave exactly 4 gallons remaining in the 5 gallon jug. (This, I believe, is how they did it in the movie, but we didn't see steps 1 and 2.) Also, as previously mentioned, “The Last Boy Scout” is a must. Written by Shane Black (“Lethal Weapon”, “Last Action Hero”, “Iron Man 3”) the action is intense, the one-liners are ridiculously funny…and man, the bad guys SUCK! (In a good way, of course ;D). “Looper” is equally fantastic, and a very different role for him. Keep up the great work, guys!

Steven Montano

This is by far the best of the sequels, and I agree- I think I enjoy it more than the original. Fun fact-- I remember watching this movie one time on TV, and watching an edited for TV copy of this movie is fannnnnnnnntastic. The harlem sign in the edited version says I HATE EVERYBODY...which makes so much sense.

Shaun2342!

yes thats how they did it. You can also fill up the 3 gallon jug (3/3), pour that into the 5 gallon (3/5) Fill up the 3 gallon jug again (3/3). Pour that into the 5 gallon until its full (5/5).. leaving 1gallon in the 3gallon jug (1/3)... empty the 5 gallon, pour the 1 gallon over into the 5gallon (1/5).. fill the 3gallon full (3/3).. and add it to the 1gallon in the 5 gallon jug.. you'll have as well (4/5) :P

24fps_

I love how the movies that have made Sam say, "EW!" are the last 2 Die Hards. Thank you this was awesome. The great action buddy cop movies are of course Lethal Weapon 1-2. FYI you've done all the good John McTiernan movies. Predator, The Hunt for Red October, Last Action Hero, Die Hard 1 and Die Hard with a Vengeance. And if you want to play the gold heist, GTA V nearly copies it in a fun mission.

Ellie Miller

You're 100% correct about the re-watchability of this movie. If I'm just flipping channels, I'll always stop on it if I see it playing.

Thomas Yanez

If you want Bruce Willis and Samuel Jackson together again, you can to watch the Unbreakable trilogy : "Unbreakable" (2000), "Split" (2016) and "Glass" (2019).

Thomas Yanez

Funny, that's the way I described it in reverse! :D (but eplains why they had 2 gallons in one of the jugs) ... I love riddles like that! :-D

olly.enn

What great fun! Just non-stop action and tension. I was waiting for the gasp when you saw what that sign said that John had to wear. I remember hearing on the director's commentary years ago about the delicate nature of that scene. In the end, they wrote "I hate everybody" on the sign and CGi'd the other word in later. I also remember them saying that the script was originally intended to be for some random action film called Simon Says, then it somehow got into the hands of the Die Hard creators and they loved it, so rewrote it to fit. Considering the news about Bruce Willis this week, I appreciated your words at the start of the reaction. As an 80s kid, Bruce has always been a hero of mine. If you ever wanted to do a little season of his films, there are lots to choose from (if you haven't seen them). Off the top of my head: The Last Boy Scout Death Becomes Her Bandits Looper Sin City 16 Blocks The Jackal He's done more good films than most people give him credit for!

Future Boy

The answer to the gallon riddle: Fill up the 5 gallon jug. Pour 3 of that into the 3 gallon jug, and you'll have 2 gallons in the 5 jug. Pour out the 3 gallons of the 3 jug. Pour the 2 gallons from the 5 jug into the 3 jug. Fill up the 5 gallon jug. Fill up the rest of the 3 gallon jug with 1 one gallon from the 5. The 5 gallon jug now has 4 GALLONS.

EdmanXERO

And even still edited down! You can see a pretty hard cut during the fight between McClane and Targo. After the chain whipping Targo is knocked out all of a sudden. And I think they trimmed the elevator shootout ...

olly.enn

They probably edited down the water jug scene so you can't really understand the solution by watching it again. Here's how it goes: fill up the 3 gallon jug, pour it into the empty 5 gallon jug. Do the same again until the 5 gallon jug is full. That leaves 1 gallon in the 3 gallon jug. Empty the 5 gallon jug. Pour in the 1 gallon remaining in the 3 gallon jug, fill the 3 gallon jug up again and pour those 3 gallons into the 5 gallon jug (which already contains 1 gallon). Tadaaa. 4 gallons in a 5 gallon jug! edit: I just noticed however they end up with 2 gallons in the 5 gallon jug after a cut. That indeed doesn't make sense...

olly.enn

The elephant is always ready to travel - because it has a trunk! :-D

olly.enn

I lived in NYC when they shot this (still do). My fellow New Yorkers were pissed because they shot scenes all over Manhattan during the middle of the work week, blocking off traffic. It inconvenienced a lot of people trying to get to and from work. Bruce Willis was the most hated man in NYC at that time, especially during the Central Park shoot. Haha! But I loved this movie. It’s the best "Die Hard", IMO. 😁 Most movies set in NYC just show the the skyline and fake the street scenes on a movie set or in some other city because its too expensive to shoot here. This one had all authentic NYC street scenes.

Mr. Writhms

I think it was because of the F-bombs between Willis and Jackson. There were a LOT. And the violence was over the top, bloody. That vault scene alone when that woman sliced that guy up...

Mr. Writhms

i bet 18+ is for the use of the certain word on the sandwich sign he wore in harlem. it was simply rated R back in 95.
