That was really sad at the end, a real gut punch to the feels.

Good stuff as always. As a fan of the books, I've loved how faithful the creators have been to the source material. The books lend themselves so well to an 8-10 episode season rather than a 2+ hour movie. The show does veer from the first book in a few ways, and it's been interesting, to me anyway, to see how and why they've done so. The character Neagley who we meet near the end of this episode, as an example, isn't in the first few Reacher books. She comes in a few books later, but quickly became a fan favorite and is easily one of the series' best characters overall. It would have been a shame to leave her out of this season of the show, so I was glad to see how they managed to bring her into it. Her relationship with Reacher is really fun in the books, and the series gets it right. I think you'll both like watching that one unfold. Another interesting change from the book is the use of the flashbacks to Reacher's childhood with Joe and his mother. That storyline is lifted from a later book (sort of), but it really helps the show so much by giving us a window in the brothers' relationship. None of that is in the first Reacher book, and imo the book could have used it. The last big change was the whole Baghdad story. That wasn't in the book, but was a plot in a later book which the second Tom Cruise movie already adapted. To me it makes sense to steal a plot line from that book, since they likely have no plans of turning it into a season of the show since it was already a movie. Plus, they needed to give Reacher a more modern backstory since the book was written back in the 90s before Iraq2/Afghanistan happened. That change to the story works nicely in the show because it gives us a better understanding of Reacher's very rigid moral compass - and it pairs so nicely with the flashbacks showing us how that moral compass was forged alongside his brother. It's just been nice to see a show that improves on the source material. Usually it works the other way.
